The state GOP announced early Saturday morning that Gingrich's campaign had failed to submit the required number of signatures to qualify for the March 6 primary. On Friday it was announced that Texas Gov. Rick Perry had also failed to qualify.

Gingrich, Perry fail to make Va. Ballot The state's election board requires candidates petitioning for inclusion in the primary to file 10,000 signatures from registered voters, including 400 from each of Virginia's 11 congressional districts. It was reported Thursday that Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman were also off the ballot. So far, only former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Congressman Ron Paul are officially on the primary ballot.

Gingrich is from Virginia.

Gingrich produced enough signatures for his ballot but apparently enough of them were disqualified to make him ineligible to pick up any support from the primary in Virginia.

Which means if he actually does vote in the GOP Primary in Virginia he won't even be able to vote for himself.

Hmmmm, wonder if he'll go for Paul or Romney...

/Yes, laughing a lot over this one.

Gingrich calls this the result of a "failed system" and many of the other andidates are making similar noises.

Party of Personal Responsibility?

Good one!

^_^

Be Well.

/Betting Leroy Newton will bow out soon and throw his weight behind Romney in an attempt to secure the Veep spot.
//Would actually like to see Paul take VA but it won't happen cos the conservative leaning corporate media hate him worse than Obama.

Gingrich is from Virginia.

Gingrich is NOT from Virginia! (see: "carpetbagger".)

"Gingrich is from Virginia."

How does Spud figure?
Unless you meant Georgia?

According to Wikipedia, Gingrich has lived in McLean Virginia since 1999.

he's from Pennsylvania. he may reside in God's country, but that's it.

With over 2000 signatures denied on this primary in WI they aren't even going to verify the signatures.

" Various reports have stated that the signatures turned in by Newt Gingrich included at least 2,000 that were invalidated because there was no address given with the signature.

If this were a Virginia Statewide office, that would be correct. But this is a Presidential Primary. And while the rules are similar, they are actually addressed in two separate sections of the Virginia Code.

There is a requirement in a Statewide General Election that the address be included, but there is no such requirement for a presidential primary. The number of signatures are the same, 10,000 and 400 per Congressional District. But the address requirements are different.

VA Right also includes the two sections of Virginia Election Code at question:

§ 24.2-506. Petition of qualified voters required; number of signatures required; certain towns excepted.
§ 24.2-545. Presidential primary."

Ha!

It's a conspiracy!

.

Candidates who can't get it together well enough to qualify to run probably aren't the best choices for president. Just sayin.....

and people still think Hillary or Palin could "Jump In" to the race at a moments notice.

the above situation pertains to Repubs only, who are basically dim-witted ..
Dems already have completed petitions in place for whomever .. properly signed by Hitler, M Mouse, and J Unitas / Baltimore Colts

There is something wrong with the process when 4 of the 6 candidates can't get on the ballot.

"There is something wrong with the process when 4 of the 6 candidates can't get on the ballot."

So, how many times has this happened in the past?

never, a recent lawsuit by disgruntled libs led to procedural changes in primary signature counting

and people still think Hillary or Palin could "Jump In" to the race at a moments notice.

Spud's still hoping Donald Trump and Sarah Palin jump in at the last minute for a 3rd Party run.

Obviously it wouldn't go anywhere but think of the lulz!

So now it's the fault of those evil libs that 4 outta 6 GOP POTUS nominees can't get their shit together?

Yer bootstrappiness is nothing less than awesome!

*salutes*

Face it, dipshits, 2012 is a placeholder election for the GOP, the really serious contenders are waiting for 2016 when they won't be up against a Dem incumbent. It will be Romney this time out because the GOP establishment want it to be so and because Mittens is paying for much of the campaign himself. Santorum and Bachmann were nods to the increasingly zany religious right in the Party who surged into power in Congress in 2010 under the guise of being libertarian, pro-business, serious-about-the-economy candidates. The fact that they've spent most of their energy since then pursuing the culture wars ie. attempting to defund PP, NPR, NEA etc and make abortion harder and harder to access and redefining rape makes them hypocrites. The additional fact that they've done so while holding America's economy hostage to Grover Norquists insane pledge makes them dangerous. Somehow the RW spin machine has managed to implant the insane notion into their heads that reverting the tax rates back to what they were when the economy was healthier is somehow zOMFG COMMUNIzMs!1! Perry was Bush 2.0 and looked appealing until people noticed that the "2.0" just meant he was twice as stupid and ignorant. Newt is damaged goods to the point where he prolly has more enemies on the GOP side who don't want him to run than the Dem side. Cain was on an extended book tour and kept alive by the RW media machine in order to show they really aren't a racist party as their long history of using racially divisive politics shows because they now have a black friend. In point of fact if not kept alive by RW media he woulda never lasted past his first 9-9-9 derpfest much less until his "you wanna job don't ya?" past came back to haunt him. Huntsman is a serious candidate in terms of ability but he's never been more than a blip on the national radar and he, like most of the rest except Romney and Paul, has no ground game.

TL,DR?

It will be Romney and he will lose to Obama.

Be Well.

"a recent lawsuit by disgruntled libs led to procedural changes in primary signature counting"

Yeah...sure it did.

.

The rest of them know they wouldn't be running by Virginia anyways. I expect batshit and santorum to be done after Iowa.

Gingrich says he's going to push hard in Virginia to be a write-in.

Perry just grins and says "Duh."

Gingrich says he's going to push hard in Virginia to be a write-in.

Yeah, about that.

Newt Gingrich's plan to wage a write-in campaign for Virginia's GOP presidential primary may be dead on arrival. Virginia state law specifically prohibits voters from writing in candidates not on the ballot in primary elections.

Newt's write-in is a write-off.

" prohibits voters from writing in candidates"

I remember reading that, too. Thanks for the verification. If I wasn't so lazy I would have looked it up myself.

(Good to be back on the ol' DR ~ even if it's only for a few days.)

Poor old pudfuck thinks Obama is gonna win reelection. Of course he thought the democrats would do well in 2010 also. Obama is done cos he is a stupid fucking idiot hell bent on destroying this country and thats his good qualities. Also his defunding of Social Security will be a prime issue in this election. We're gonna see to that!

...Obama is gonna win reelection.

Tru dat.

his defunding of Social Security will be a prime issue in this election. We're gonna see to that!

Defunding SS was the GOP's idea, numbnuts.

The GOP have nobody who can beat Obama.

Generic Republican does okay against Obama in polls but once you start popping real names into the equation Obama wins handily.

A lot of the people who were fooled into voting GOP in 2010 might have figured out they were duped by this point.

But maybe not.

It *is* America after all.

Obama is gonna win reelection.

hmmm. They were saying that about Jimmy Carter one year before the election. LOL Those who don't study history and all that. Keep pretending everything is peachy keen and all wrapped up. It'll help get this bozo out of the WH, just like that complacent "we can't lose" attitude helped get Jimmuh out in 1980.

what are you gonna do goat.se, move your hostages out to the rig and hope the "Obama" choppers crash in the gulf?

Danni: Candidates who can't get it together well enough to qualify to run probably aren't the best choices for president. Just sayin.....

Just to put this in context back in 2008 both Cynthia McKinney and Dennis Kucinich managed to qualify for the primary by getting their requisite 400 validated signatures per electoral district in Virginia.

Kucinich and McKinney can get it done but Gingrich, Perry, Santorum, Bachmann and Huntsman can't?

JUSTANOVERSIGHT: There is something wrong with the process when 4 of the 6 candidates can't get on the ballot.

No, there is something wrong with the candidates.

/ie. Most of them weren't really running seriously.

Be Well.

what are you gonna do goat.se, move your hostages out to the rig and hope the "Obama" choppers crash in the gulf?

Wasn't there a democratic candidate who's unofficial campaign motto was, "It's the economy, stupid"?

I guess once again the dems want to play the, "But, but, but, this is different" card.

I wonder if it gets as old playing that card as it does seeing it on the table.

Pretty sure Newt figured the rules don't apply to him.

Kinda like john Edwards figured.

Those others, Perry, Bachman, etc. are just around for the amusement factor.

Still wondering who's gonna be popping up to win against Obama. We keep being told he's gonna be beat.

I hear Tom Delay isn't doing much these days. That'd satisfy some o' the Texans around here.

Pretty sure Newt figured the rules don't apply to him.

All the ones who voted for Obamacare obviously feel the same way. It's a common malady of people with power

"They were saying that about Jimmy Carter one year before the election."

Bullshit.

Apparently, someone who imagines that he knows history forgot about that little hostage situation. Not to mention that Carter's reelection bid was already in serious doubt due to economic factors.

Carter lost the moment Kennedy ran against him and Reagan and Bush joined forces.

Kucinich and McKinney can get it done but Gingrich, Perry, Santorum, Bachmann and Huntsman can't?

What a bunch of Losers.

Even that Zero Obama was able to get qualified and then even went on to win the state of Virginia.
