Bombs exploded on Christmas Day at several churches in Nigeria and one killed at least 27 people on the outskirts of the capital. St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Madala was packed when a powerful bomb exploded during a Christmas service. The Islamic militant group Boko Haram, which wants to impose Islamic sharia law across the country, claimed responsibility for the attacks. "We were in the church with my family when we heard the explosion. I just ran out," said Timothy Onyekwere, who was at St. Theresa's. "Now I don't even know where my children or my wife are."
