The quantitative data may show higher numbers that favor conservatives in this topic, but the 'true influence of helping people for the sake of helping people' would not be found in conservative mindsets. Hence the incredibly popular interest amongst conservatives to cut all social programs that directly benefit those in need. The whole "let them rely on charity" mantra has been tried in the past. Charities are not effective enough. There is also not strong enough regulation amongst the charities to ensure they don't end up like the Catholic Church - hoarding money for the benefit of the religious leaders.

I enjoyed the article, as I usually enjoy reading George Will, but the context of charity is much more complex than simple quantitative data is capable of explaining.

From economic, historical, and geological standpoints, it is really fascinating.

The tour of the factory is interesting You have to see it behind glass because of the pungent fumes that can irritate your eyes and respiratory functions

you really should visit if going through Lafayette on I-10. It's only a half hour or so off the interstate.

The bride was doing the tour guide number for that trip, and wanted to get to the sugar cane fields (she's also a factory tour freak, so the Tabasco tour was a bit of a letdown; though the shop made up for it, and the grounds were cool). It was a great trip, with the perfect goal: Eat our way across Louisiana. I also made it a personal goal to find the best gumbo in the state. One place on the bride's list --Brenda's-- was a place literally across the railroad tracks; I was convinced we were the only two white folks in the county. No surprise, though: the best food of the trip.

They do have a really cool gift shop. I bought my son, the geologist, a bunch of AI salt since he was enamored with the salt dome. I bought my other son a big bag of the post processing mash since he likes to cook. I I kept some of for myself. It's a great seasoning. I still have the four little bottles of assorted flaavors the tour guide givees out.

I nsaw several alligators in that drainage ditch (I hate to call it a canal) on the right side of the road driving up to the place. That wsa kind of cool.

One thing they didn't have in the gift shop that would be cheap to make and easy to sell: The petit baton rouge the pickers use. Put 'em on key chains or whatever. I was actually looking for one to buy. I asked one of the workers in the gift shop about that and she said several people ask for them. That makes it more surprising they don't sell them.

In the state of California, both felony and misdemeanor charges were filed against the producers, as well as civil lawsuits; in 2005, the producers were sentenced to six months in prison for having failed to complete the community service to which they had previously been sentenced.

The films have likewise been blamed for inspiring a number of violent teenage attacks on the homeless, both in the United States and other countries. A group of suburban Nevada teenagers, who called themselves "311 Boyz", also faced criminal charges, including attempted murder, after filming several violent exploits inspired by Bumfights. The suspects attempted to make a profitable video by instigating fights around their neighborhoods, in some instances imposing on unwilling participants.

I watched "Bumfights" but stopped in the middle. It was funny at first, but later became quite disgusting.

There was also a craze in UK called "slap happy" or some such name, where a kid goes up to another kid... or an adult... and punches them in the face for no reason at all.... except that he's been filmed by his buddies with a mobile phone camera.

They then vote on who made the best "slap happy" video.

Many people are injured and assaulted that way.
