Investor Warren Buffett's MidAmerican Energy Holdings is buying the Topaz Solar Farm, a photovoltaic farm valued at $2 billion in San Luis Obispo County, Calif. The value of the nation's solar industry has grown 67 percent, to $6 billion, since 2009, making it the fastest growing segment of the nation's renewable energy offerings. The farm will generate electricity for about 160,000 homes.

I'm no expert on stocks and so forth but it would seem to me that the recent bankruptcies in alternative energy companies probably have caused the stock prices on similar companies to drop like a rock. Probably a smart time to buy unless you think the whole industry will never actually be viable. Apparently Buffet is not of that belief, but hey, what does he know?

Danni, if you read the story you would know that the prices are hugely depressed .... to the point that it could actually be profitable.

Still, it means that the replacement cost, or original build cost, is far higher than the return.

Buffett could not make this move unless many other investors who were in at the beginning have lost billions.

So, if the price is right, solar can attract private capital; meaning that Obama's Green Giveaway programs only distort the free market.

The effort to guarantee Solyndra's loan was initiated during the Bush administration. If the federal government does not help develop the green energy sector, China and other countries will dominate it.

"Buffett could not make this move unless many other investors who were in at the beginning have lost billions."

t's pretty hard to make a profit in an industry that China wants to own.

It's the Amusement Park Syndrome. The third owner is the owner one to make money.

only

That's better than the Third Cigarette Syndrome.

It's bad luck to take the third light off a lighter or match.

The third guy gets shot by the sniper.

Misread the headline as saying he had bought the farm.

All it will do is bring a shitload of people moving into some damn fine country, and they will pollute the landscape. I have lived in San Luis Obispo and also Morro Bay, and they don't need anyone moving there. There are enough jerks already.

So you're fine with the thousands of wineries that bring people in, but not solar power? You're whacked.

Solar and windmill energy are Quixotic.

He knows Obama is right there to hand him hundreds of millions of taxpayer's dollars so he can then bankrupt the company. That wasn't so hard to figure out, was it?

Wow. Two whole sentences. Did Michelle Malkin dictate them to you?

Buffet consulted with Obama in 2009 on the bank bailouts. Meanwhile he bought heavily the banks that were bailed out. And decrying how bad the bank bailouts were.

Ka-ching.

He doesn't want the Keystone to go through because it will mess up his train industry profits.

Ka-ching.

I will bet dollars to donuts that this solar farm has millions coming to it from Obama and Chu as well.

Ka-ching!

Deflection. Solyndra was never mentioned. What was pointed out is that your Messiah ran on a platform of pissing away billions on 'green energy.' Which has accomplished nothing but more debt.

woooho...Buffet must be on to something. Lemmings buy solar stock. Prices go up. Buffett sells. Takes profit. Stocks go down. Suckers left holding bag of shit.

One minute the dr left line up and cheer Occupy Wall Street, denouncing the corruption on WS. Then their 'guy' makes a move, (and yes he is your guy, you have even coined the expression the Buffett Rule). And they cheer. So without ability to define what they mean, they spit on conservative invesotrs and cheer libbies.

He puts 5 billion into Bank America BEFORE they tried the $5 debit fee.
No critisim from the left for his investments......It's only republican investors who catch your ire. Of course he remains holy in your books.

Leaving aside the politics of it aren't you glad you're not a DR rightie? What a truly miserable life they must lead with their constant anger and hatred of Obama and their compulsive need to tell everybody about it every day when everybody outside of the echo chamber gave up listening to them ages ago.

I think the beatles said it best;

Everybody's laughing

Anger?

Hatred?

Clueless simpleton.

Government (Read TAXPAYER) subsidies fueled the "wind" market. Many thousands of turbines sit abandoned across the country's landscape.

On a grand scale - wind, solar, and other "green" tech is still FAR too inefficient to power the nation (despite what WH idiot keeps trying to sell us every 2 hours).

Oh - well maybe electric cars are pretty good. Some of them can get a full 40 miles(!) to the charge -- after which they just need a RE-charge, powered by fossil fuels.

Obviously Buffett is no fool (duh). He knows this stuff doesn't work. Can't wait to see the sleight of hand he's lined up to double his money on this one.

#18 I talk on topic, as consistent with the dr left, you attack personally, cause you don't have jack shit to say about the subject.

Wanna talk 'trash'....lets talk about the chevy volt!

A very funny side bar to this. The president of Mid America trash talked Obama when his cap and trade agenda came on the scene. His point was the gov is making us we tool, into technology that is not only not cost effective, it hasn't even been invented yet!!

For those who don't know, the gov is mandating utility co's use green technology. Buffett knows a good deal......and a sucker when he see's one (That's the average US tax payer thru Gov Subsidies).

What a truly miserable life they must lead with their constant anger and hatred of Obama and their compulsive need to tell everybody about it every day when everybody outside of the echo chamber gave up listening to them ages ago.

Echo chamber? Oh like....
shovel ready?
Green Jobs?
Bending down the cost curve?
Close Gitmo?
8% unemployment?
Halfing the deficit?
Most transparent POTUS ever?
Post racial presidency?
Ending DC's games?
Recovery Summer

CBS poll: 54% say Obama doesnt deserve re-election

American's has given up listening...to Obama

Cal is going to do away with all nuk's so they have to get their electricity from somewhere. Who gives a shit if it will make their electric bill twice as much.

I know Vernon. Libbies still think that it's hatred for a black man being in office.

It still hasn't hit them that the dislike of Obama is deeply rooted in the fact that he went ahead with his agenda even though the American people were against it.

You're not that stupid are you? Do you really think all the Libbies around you are stupid too?

Obama's agenda changed after the election.

Everyone knows that.

(That was even easier)

You took the bait, Hans.

Libbies still think that the so-called "hate" from the right is because Obama is black.

You can say it all day long, but you are still a fool.

It still hasn't hit them that the dislike of Obama is deeply rooted in the fact that he went ahead with his agenda even though the American people were against it.

Worth saying again.

Got any more Hans?

[snark] Yes, just where in the world would we think that the hate from the right is because Obama is black? [/snark]
