Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Tuesday, December 06, 2011

More than a century after Teddy Roosevelt's famous "New Nationalism" speech, President Barack Obama sounded similar themes Tuesday in the same town in the Republican heartland of Kansas, delivering a populist speech that called for extending the payroll tax cut set to expire at the end of the year. "This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class, and all those who are fighting to get into the middle class," Obama said in Osawatomie, Kan. "At stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home, and secure their retirement."

Regardless of your opinions regarding what the Obamanator said, you have to agree that he is finally speaking like a true American leader: "Fuck you! I'm right, your wrong - everyone follow me!"

His Bush impersonation continues to get more and more sound.

Fuck you! I'm right, your wrong - everyone follow me

Kinda like Obamacare.
And the fiscal stimulus.

Two programs that are working swimmingly well.

Whew. For a second there I thought Obama was campaigning. Turns out he was just "delivering a populist speech that called for extending the payroll tax cut set to expire at the end of the year."

Good for President Obama.

We know whose side he is on!

Now lets see some Fireside Chats like FDR used to inspire the Masses.

Good luck to America!

With Obama in office, this country's going to need a lot of "good luck".

Make or Break!

I don't know about you guys, but I'm catching Zero Fever all over again! Pass This Bill Now! Recovery Summer! Hope and Change! We are the change we have been waiting for! Now this!

It just keeps getting better! I love Obama! It's Tuesday! I'm so happy! I need to get an oil change later this afternoon! And some new file folders for the office! The ice is melting in my drink! I need to get some more!

With Obama in office, this country's going to need a lot of "good luck".

With the stiffs the GOP are running and their fuck everybody but the 1% mentality, America would need the Last Rites.

no this is....well will be...stay tuned...

I refer to the apparent violation of at least one (probably two) major U.S. laws by the Holder Justice Department. A few years ago, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701, the follow-on to the Trading with the Enemy Act) was expanded in order to criminalize any transactions between U.S. entities - to include departments and agencies of the U.S. government - and all foreign drug cartels.

I am familiar with these prohibitive statues because several years ago, while serving as the senior drug analyst for the Senate Intelligence Committee, I was tasked to initiate and became the principal drafter of legislation which became known as the Kingpin Act (21 U.S.C. 1901-08). The Kingpin Act is an extension of the highly successful IEEPA sanctioning program specifically targeting Colombian drug cartels. It expands sanctions authority against various drug cartel operations worldwide - including Mexico - which have been determined by the president to be threats to the national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States.

A violation of any of the IEEPA sanctioning programs or the Kingpin Act carries stiff penalties, both criminal and civil, and potentially totaling decades in prison and tens of millions of dollars in fines. It is not necessary that an individual or governmental entity be shown to have "knowingly" violated any of these programs: it is illegal for any U.S. entity or individual to aid, abet, or materially assist - or in the case of Operation Fast and Furious, to facilitate others to aid, abet, or materially assist - designated drug traffickers. There are no exceptions within IEEPA programs for unlicensed U.S. law enforcement or intelligence agency operations.

Obama, Regressivism....gooooooooood. Obama will try to create the same magic as 2008 but there will be a lot less folks fooled and conned the second time around.

Does this guy know where the WH is?----he's already in serious campaign mode and is about 20 former POTUSes rolled into one----I just wish he had acted like some of them the last 3 years.

"What sort of narcissist is this guy?????"

the same type that any guy would be that becomes president of the USA..

we have many folks who are just as narcissistic and are unemployed... or spend their days trolling the internets.

Its so regressive its an alarm bell... what's next the FEMA camps for homeless while the homes sit vacant and they bitch about #Occupy people trying to squat somewhere?

better save what you can for your brother... keep em from the ...

"President Obama is horrible at governing. He’s not bad, though, at moving goalposts."

What 8 years of that attitude with Bush was too much all of the sudden? I remember when the right used to praise Johnny Walker Bush for his "tough Texan - take no prisoners" attitude. Now Obama uses the same sort of backbone and you call him arrogant.

What the fuck do you want, America? A spineless apologist or an arrogant asshole?

ahhhh yes.. you want to do unto others as they have done unto you.

It was so painful I too though of killing myself several times during the Bush Error. I am so glad I made it through that agony to see that GW Bush was main reason for the First Black President in US history.

There sure is a bunch of panty twisting going on here.

meanwhile, back in reality, the economic climate suffers more,

and people are in complete denial about what caused it,

and people are in complete denial about what it's gonna take to fix it.

If people would ever just stop for a second.....just take a break from the hyperventilating and the knee-jerking....they would realize that 90% of all politicians ever elected, of any party, anywhere, to any job, was corrupt....then their own lives would make a lot more sense.

Fuck it, that's too much thinking...... we'll just do it the old way;

If you vote for him next year, you will prove to be just plain stupid.

Hilariously, TR was no longer President in 1910 and he lost the 1912 election using this approach.

This is a make or break moment and all he has is some useless temporary payroll tax that averages about .70 each per family of four? Are you fucking kidding me? This is all the losers on the left have? After three years? Nothing on Housing? Nothing on creating jobs without borrowing another trillion? Wow, it was bad enough these tools elected the least experienced candidate, but to trump that stupidity with a whining speech with ZERO subtance, solutions or ideas?

so how do you figure hourly? daily? monthly? By my figures it amounts to about a thousand dollars a year. Sounds like a lot of Christmas presents to me.

The point was, the so called make or break crap is hardly newsworthy to begin with, much less open a thread. What exactly is the moment? A payroll tax? Increasing the taxes on millionaires? WTF is that going to do? $70 billion when we run a 2 trillion dollar deficit a year?

Sorry but... BWHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA. One would have to be stupider than sand to back this fucking useless, incompetent, lying POS for another 4 years...

Why not stretch out the moment he identified on June 4, 2008?

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal."

But, to be fair, he was speaking of looking back after a "long," "difficult" "journey" which he would take "with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations." And he's only going to slow the rise of the oceans.

The time he botched the toast to the Queen of England would more correctly be called "a moment." Very memorable, indeed:

www.youtube.com

I love it at the :53 mark when he mumbles quietly "To the Queen."

Now that's a moment!

Bold off now. Go on about your insignificant moments, libtards.

No dumbass. Obama made an idiot of himself today.

He's "trying" to lead! This is so sad.

You supporting him makes you an idiot too.

So...lets see...the Social Security system is broke and Obama wants to make sure those who are paying into it pay less. Why? Because the dems have already excluded 50% of the population from paying ANY income taxes and they have nothing left to give them - but the money they would be giving them later - except that they have already spent it!

So much for fiscal responsiblity and insuring that social security remains solvent.

HERE is a better answer. 1) put the money BACK into social security 2) CUT SPENDING. move spending back to the Bush years - this will reduce our outpayment by 1 TRILLION per year. Cut Tarp, Cut Stimulas, kill the payouts to build electric cars that burn, "Green" energy companies that go broke but protect Dem fund raisers, no more Hawaian vacations or trips to Spain.

3) Increase the retirement age and index it to life expentency

4) kill Obamacare so that small businesses can hire

5) roll back minumum wage so that people with limited or no skills can get a job

6) Reduce corp. income tax to 10% and match that with a flat income tax eliminating the IRS and tax loopholes for the political classes friends.

7) build the pipeline

8) Sell off GM

9) Remove evironmental regulation and build 4 nuke, 4 coal electric plants

10) Drill baby Drill

Money would be flowing into the coffers of the US ...our Debt to GDP would go under 65% which is the key. People would be employed again.

We should also restucture colleges and fund programs that teach programing of machine tools that is needed to bring back manufacturing.

It was a good speech I hope he keeps this up. this was the Obama I voted for not the half ass republican clown that has been in the white house for the past 3 plus years

Socialist Nationalism or National Socialism...what's the difference.

Looks like somebody on the DR got a little excited by another Obama puff piece today. Or yesterday already now.

Socialist Nationalism or National Socialism...what's the difference.

You'll be toddling off to school soon, ask your civics teacher.

FINALLY!...it's about time President Obama came out and spoke
like a true Democrat, and embraced what all of us on the
Left know...that the Trickle Down/Voodoo Economic policies
of the G.O.P. over the last 30 years in American Economic
Policy have been the biggest lie ever sold to the
American Public....and it's about time a President
stood there and said so.... wtg O' man!!!

Talk is cheap, but its a start. Roosevelt was more straightforward in his attacks on the financial sector which led to economic reforms and 75 years of prosperity. As we stand now none of the problems Roosevelt addressed, that were undone, have been fixed. NONE. They can and will do it again. In fact another bailout is pending in Europe which will effect US Banks in a big way.

What exactly is the moment?

It's a major presidential speech.

"Socialist Nationalism or National Socialism...what's the difference." So now you even call Obama a Nazi???? YOu are really a very sick puppy.

"3) Increase the retirement age and index it to life expentency

Wow! If that is what you want why don't you just move to China and get a job in a sweat shop. They're hiring!

It's a major presidential speech.

Taking government as a whole, they fuck up everything they touch. Libs (and cons) are living in a world of their dreams.

"Taking government as a whole, they fuck up everything they touch." And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Broken record. It just gets old.

A truth, no matter how many times repeated is still a truth. You're expecting the same people to cure the problems they created. Good luck with that one.

Here's another way to look at government incompetence.

You go to a doctor one day because your'e not feeling well. He looks you over and prescribes some medicine. After a few weeks, you're feeling worse. So you go back to the same doctor. He looks you over again, and decides to prescribe stronger medicine. After a few weeks, you're feeling still worse. Go back to doctor. Doctor looks at you and decides you should increase your dose again. At some point, it should sink in that you should switch doctors before this one kills you.

And so it is with the Western economies. The same prescription of ever increasing doses of regulations, taxes, borrowing, spending and money printing is what's killing the economy. These people obviously don't know what the fuck they're doing.

"And so it is with the Western economies. The same prescription of ever increasing doses of regulations, taxes, borrowing, spending and money printing is what's killing the economy. These people obviously don't know what the fuck they're doing."

So hey, let's trade economies which have been ongoing for centuries for Ray's Libertarian utopia which has never been demonstrated to work in a single nation on this planet. But hey, we've gor Ray and Von Mises to assure us it's the right path. Thanks, but not thanks Ray.

Danni, you are the DR Advent Card of pro government, socialism.

"It's a major presidential speech."

You mean the same foolish reasons the useless dems propped up a black guy for historical purposes? lets see now...I am repeating what I have heard this morning so if Im wrong on either of these, Im sure the smartest fucks in the history of the fuckin world..(retort liberals) will set me straight

BUT DIDNT a short time after this speech TEDDY revoked what he said and obama is using.

AND I know that a SHORT TIME afterwards..HE LOST HIS AsS IN THE ElECTION..

Wasnt that the one where teddy couldnt even get his own party to nominate him and he ran 3rd party????

so yeah ALL RIGHT BARRY....JUST the sort of image to conjure up...at least for the STUPID OBAMADUPES...

Danni, I missed your answer to a coupld of questions I asked you last week. Your response will only take five words so I'm sure you won't mind repeating them.

1. Has Obama kept the wars goings, that Bush started, and added a couple of incursions?

2. Has Obama kept Guantanamo Bay open, which Bush kept running?

3. Has Obama expanded government spending on top of Bush's already outrageous spending? (I know you already said Bush's outrageous spending got us in this mess, so I don't even have to ask you if you agree with that)

4. Has Obama extended the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy?

5. Are all of these things, which Bush did, things that you disliked when Bush did them but now that Obama is doing them, it's alright?

I'll thank you in advance for answering them (she won't answer them). Ask yourself why, all of you Danni followers.

Talk is very cheap and obama proves every day that he is nothing but a talking blow hard.

In about 3 weeks all this blow hard talk will be left on the way side for another sticky note popular political item but nothing will be done, it is the obama way.....

THERE IS NO MEANS OF AVOIDING THE FINAL COLLAPSE OF A BOOM BROUGHT ABOUT BY CREDIT EXPANSION. THE ALTERNATIVE IS ONLY WHETHER THE CRISIS SHOULD COME SOONER AS A RESULT OF A VOLUNTARY ABANDONMENT OF FURTHER CREDIT EXPANSION, OR LATER AS A FINAL OR TOTAL CATASTROPHE OF THE CURRENCY SYSTEM INVOLVED”

Where was "I" being hypocritical RB? I simply pointed the hypocrisy of the left. Look at Herman Cain as a perfect example.

4 days ago you were bitching about the left's over use of race as a factor. Then today you bring race into the discussion as a factor. If that doesn't fit your definition of hypocrisy, then it should fit your definition of inconsistency in the least. I use the word should quite loosely. This is a free country.

"4 days ago you were bitching about the left's over use of race as a factor. Then today you bring race into the discussion as a factor."

Meaning I was consitently using the example of the left and race in both cases? HTF is that hypocrisy?

Didn't he blame ATM machines again in this speech?

He blamed individual ruggedness--

In the presser with the Canadian dude he would veto the payroll tax cut if combined with the Keystone Pipeline.

Everything he does hurts the middle class.

We have to pay for the stimulus and then the cost for more lost jobs--and Obamacare--

It's all on the backs of Americans and the middle class --not to mention the future generations of Americans because of the debt and the deficits.

He's quite insane.

Do you mind?

Please keep your depression to yourself!

(kidding) ;o)

But it is coming--the banks stepped in and the markets went up 490 points.

Whoop-dee-doo...

Italy and Greece and Spain are heading for the drain and they will take anyone else close enough to the swirl...

I don't understand why Eurozone didn't have something in the contract to cut out a country who didn't keep their finances in order?

It was such a great plan--and people voted on it!!

Now the whole thing is going down the toilet.

Mini QE3's by the banks--it's so phucked up.

"It's all on the backs of Americans and the middle class"

Which of course is a core argument of those who criticize the "tax cuts for the wealthy." So who's right? Who's insane?

---It's all on the backs of Americans and the middle class---

"Which of course is a core argument of those who criticize the "tax cuts for the wealthy." So who's right? Who's insane?"

My money is on those echoing the insane. How else does one think a make or break situation involves less than $20.00 per week if the payroll tax in not extended?

In Teddy Roosevelt's era, President Barack Obama explained to the nation this week, "some people thought massive inequality and exploitation was just the price of progress. ... But Roosevelt also knew that the free market has never been a free license to take whatever you want from whoever you can."

And he's right. Even today there are people who believe they should have free license to take whatever they want from whomever they can. They're called Democrats.

Yet the president, uniter of a fractured nation, the mighty slayer of infinite straw men, claims that some Americans "rightly" suppose that the economy is rigged against their best interests in a nation awash in breathtaking greed, massive inequality and exploitation. Or I should say, he's trying to convince us that it's the case.

The middle-class struggle to find a decent life is the "defining issue of our time," the president went on. And nothing says middle-class triumph like more regulation, unionism, cronyism and endless spending. Hey, Dwight Eisenhower (a Republican!) built the interstate highway system, for goodness' sake. Ergo, we must support a bailout package for public-sector unions -- you know, for the middle class.

In what other ways will Obama secure the dream in this "defining" moment? Is the middle class going to be salvaged by raising the top marginal tax rates a few points on 1-percenters and adding $1 trillion to the federal budget in 10 years (equal to one year of federal deficit spending)? Or is the middle class going to rise again on the strength of a temporary tax holiday from programs it actually uses?

Surely, that won't do. If not, what are you talking about exactly, Mr. President? Give us the big plan. What program have you devised that offers middle-class Americans more opportunity, not just more dependency? How have you expanded the fortunes of the bitter, occasionally clingy bourgeois in the past three years -- by adding $4 trillion to their offspring's tab?

Smart people can grouse all they want about the supposed zealotry of the tea party or the conservative presidential field (and sometimes, they might be right), but Obama's mimicking Teddy Roosevelt's end-of-career hard left turn tells us a lot about the president's worldview. In his speech in Osawatomie, Kan., Obama dropped almost all pretenses and made the progressive case against an American free market system, which he called "a simple theory ... one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. ... And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here's the problem: It doesn't work."

Obama, after all, is such a towering economic mind that in Osawatomie, he once again blamed ATMs (and the Internets) for job losses. This is a man we can trust. "Less productivity! More jobs!"

That's not to say capital isn't useful occasionally, of course. A few days ago, Obama hosted a $38,000-a-plate fundraiser for wealthy Manhattanites. The president -- with the Democratic National Committee -- has hauled in more cash from rent-seeking financial-sector companies than all Republican candidates combined. This president has supported every big-business bailout with taxpayers' money, even though he claims they shouldn't be on the "hook for Wall Street's mistakes."

But it is refreshing to hear Obama come out and give us a clear picture of this country in all its ugly class-conscious, unjust, menacing glory rather than veil his arguments with any of that soothing rhetoric that got him elected last time. It's time, my friends, for a ne

Of course class warfare is all he has left, he can't take credit for what he's done to the economy with a complete DC majority from 1/09-1/11, while focusing on HCR, shovel ready employment, and green jobs.

E.J. Dionne provides his take on Obama's speech in "Obama's New Square Deal" (www.washingtonpost.com), an address he describes as "an aggressive philosophical attack on a Republican Party that has veered sharply rightward."

Obama was remarkably direct in declaring that the core ideas of the progressivism advanced by Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt were right, and that the commitments of Reagan-era supply-side economics are flatly wrong. He praised TR for knowing "that the free market has never been a free license to take whatever you can from whomever you can" and for understanding that "the free market only works when there are rules of the road that ensure competition is fair and open and honest."

He also eviscerated supply-side economics, a theory promising that "if we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes - especially for the wealthy - our economy will grow stronger."

"But here's the problem," Obama declared. "It doesn't work. It has never worked...."

Putting some much needed historical perspective on current goings on, Dionne points out:

"For months, progressives have asked why Obama wasn't invoking the populist language of Franklin D. Roosevelt and his attacks on "economic royalists" and "the privileged princes" of "new economic dynasties." What progressives often forget is that FDR offered these words only when his first term was almost over, in his acceptance speech at the 1936 Democratic National Convention. Roosevelt did not become a full-throated economic populist until the election was upon him - and only after he was pressed by a left and a labor movement that demanded more of him."

As Timothy Egan points out:

"In a century's time, the two parties have switched roles. Roosevelt, with his plea for an income tax, child labor laws, health care and conservation, his call for worker protections, control of corporate abuse, and "a square deal for the poor man," would be booed out of the room of any Republican gathering today.

"Consider just one line from the 1910 speech. "There can be no effective control of corporations while their political activity remains," Roosevelt said. "To put an end to it will be neither a short nor an easy task, but it can be done."

"Try getting a member of either party to say such a thing today."
