Range Fuels, a cellulosic ethanol company backed by $156 million in federal loans and grants during President George W. Bush's administration, is being forced to liquidate its only factory after failing to produce the fuel. The company, which counts Sun Microsystems founder Vinod Khosla as an initial investor, shuttered the factory in Soperton, Georgia, in January after not delivering on its promise to convert woodchips into ethanol. "We will be working on behalf of the American people to protect the federal government's interest in the loan, which was announced by the previous administration," said Justin Dejong, a spokesman for the Agriculture Department.

imho the only time bush jr has ever been successful has been when he's been funded by the Saudis.

The idea of making ethanol from wood chips is idiotic, you can make it from hemp far cheaper. Why, in an age of competition for available energy supplies, do we ignore hemp. It's crazy.

The Federal gummit made a bad investment with borrowed money?
Say it ain't so.

Danni:

Because if they allow any hemp... then the argument/push for mary jane will be that much heavier. The powers that be will quash any and all forms of the plant to be able to keep their "war" going in order to extract as much cash as they can for it.

The parallels between the bush and obama camps are so huge i have come to the conclusion that we ended up with a 3 term president. How is this different from Solyndra? Aside from the fact that the Solydnra loan is 3 times what GW gave these guys??

And here is a way where O could differentiate himself if he had any spine at all. Legalize and fund hemp as one of the most renewable resources on the planet.

What a huge fucking disappointment he is.

O could differentiate himself

The confluence of calculus and philosophy will have me awake all night.

That is the main difference, O is just humping the country to the rate of 3 or more times as bad as bush did.

THIS THREAD BROUGHT TO YOU BY

the same people who ignored and called you stupid if you EVER wrote the name

SOLYNDRA......

I know but I have a hard time understanding how our country can be so God damned stupid. No wonder things are so fucked up.

It's not a matter of stupidity. Hemp is a weed- doesn't need chemicals, fertilizers, labor, Monsanto genes, etc., and it lasts way longer than other fabric, which gives the textile companies less money from consumers who constantly have to replace cotton crap.

Hemp has nothing at all do with pot- it's about lobbyists protecting their respective companies, and politicians whoring themselves out.

That said- really sick of the "Bush did it, so that makes it OK for Obama to do it too." Not exactly a convincing argument.

I was going to comment but its too much effort.

Danni, danni, danni.... i don't know why you won't take your meds on a regular schedule. no one is ignoring hemp.

The wood chips thing is just a smoke screen so people can grasp the concept. The research is for cellulosic ethanol.

Quick, what does every substance (including wood chips, hemp, mashed potatoes and the human body) contain, in abundance? Cellulose. It's cell membranes.

You can extract the cellulose, convert it to sugar, then the sugar to ethanol. That means you can make ethanol out of ANY organic substance. The science is almost there, and the theory is that you can do it with an economy of scale.

You can't have a project, like fusion reactors or cellulosic ethanol refineries or algea ethanol (which looks very promising too) without a huge outlay of gov't and/or corporate money. I'm talking about a level of funding like the space program. And there will still be failures.

"I was going to use proper grammar but its too much effort."

Questhaven awaits you....

Personally successful for him-to the stockholders or tax payers, just another bankruptcy.

Who Killed The Electric Car?

They had a buyer for the plant but the US Agricultural Department rejected the proposal. In other words, taxpayers wouldn't have had to lose a dime. It's possible Obama's crew killed the restructuring to take the wind out of the sails of the Solyndra scandal. You know we're not so bad, Bush did it too.

Wow, they could tell the future? I'm assuming you have a link to that deal? Or are you going by a comment in an email from a CEO with a disconnected phone?

Just to keep you too paranoid to sleep, there's a Kenyan muslim hiding under your bed and he's going to steal your cookies.

If the government-run Bank of North Dakota lends money to a business, the Republicans of North Dakota call it a good economic move.

But when the Federal government does it, it's socialism and a conspiracy.

Typical Reupubtards.

Bush 43 was not a conservative. I didn't agree with a lot that he did, but he never seemed to not think what he was doing was not for the good the country. A good deal of it was not good for the country. But I think he loved his country. Just because he did some unwise things it doesn't give Obama and the Democrats to do unwise things.

Agreed.

Is there a Blue Moon?

Because Asshole Republicans own the forrests so why not rape our forrests for profit?

If the Republican government-run state of Texas donates money to a business, the Republicans of North Dakota call it a good economic move.

But when the Federal government loans it, it's socialism and a conspiracy.

There's that, too.

It's kinda in the US Constitution.

A measly $156 million? What a piker I squander that much between photo ops - Barry 0bama

If I may pick this apart. Bush 43 was a conservative - socially. He was a liberal when it came to spending. So if the right is allowed to screw up, the left shouldn't have it's turn to try? That's what I get out of your comment. I know what you are trying to say but everyone screws up.

Because Asshole Republicans own the forrests so why not rape our forrests for profit?

I've seen extraordinarily bad spelling, poor grammar, and brainless tripe on the DR but rarely, if ever, have I seen all three pulled together as well as you have with this crappy post. You mangled sentence structure (do valid sentences start with 'because', Timmy TwoCents?), capitalized an adjective (Larry~esque of you), misspelled forest TWICE AND incorrectly attributed Republicans with ownership of 'our' forests. In fact, 34% is owned by families on private land (that makes it 'their' forests), 44% is owned by the government (our forests) and the remaining 22% is shared between corporations (some of which may in fact be owned by Republicans!) and conservationist groups. nrs.fs.fed.us

Congratulations. You are a tribute to the American educational institutions. Your grammar, spelling and factual errors qualify you for nomination as "DR Dumbass of the Month".

Obama isn't a total fuck up with Solyndra.

Wohoo!
