Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Alabama's tough new immigration law has bagged an unexpected foreigner for lack of proper ID -- a German car executive. Mercedes-Benz executive Detlev Hager was stopped by police in Tuscaloosa last week because the rental car he was driving lacked a tag. All he had as identification was a German ID card, so he was arrested. "He was taken into custody," Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steven Anderson said. Hager was released after someone else retrieved his passport and German driver's license.

Apparently Gov. Robert Bentley didn't like the publicity:

"Yet he (Gov. Robert Bentley) wasted no time calling the state's homeland security director after the arrest of the Mercedes executive in Tuscaloosa.

The drafters of the law were targeting a stereotype, not humans. They could not dismiss their stereotypes as long as those suffering from the law were Hispanic. Throw in a wealthy Caucasian from Germany, though, and the law's ugliness became apparent."

Deport the sorry cunt. Fuck him, he's no different than anyone else.

My questions is:

Why the hell doesn't a Mercades Exec have a visa/passport on him at all times? WTF is that?

He wasn't living here, he was here on business.

He left it in his hotel room. Not that this is an issue anywhere else in the United States, except for maybe AZ. He was probably used to travel the way he can to any of the countries in Europe.

Mercedes is learning a lesson about Alabama. Forcing them to take down the confederate flag that had flown over their capital until 1993 when Mercedes finally announced they'd build a production facility there doesn't mean the culture has changed.

Don't worry. They're working on changing the law. They're just a little stuck on how to exclude caucasians and not make it obvious what the law is all about.

So the law worked perfectly. This asshole was in my country doing a job that an American could have had. I hope his punishment is severe. It should definitely be worse than a sentence for lying to get food stamps.

"Controlling Our Borders" Is Code For Keeping Out Darkie.

Be Well.

Ha... sorry I didn't see the part about leaving his ID in the hotel room... yeah I admit it :P

Anyhoo... totally idiotic of cops that didn't just go back with im to the hotel room. Asshats.

You're killing me! From the article:

Before the new law, a citation would have been issued and the driver would have been sent on his way. Now offenders are taken to jail, (Tuscaloosa Police Chief) Anderson said.

Yeah... before they would just issue citations to people here with no documentation lol... do you think that's how it goes everywhere else in the world?

I'll agree with you that there needs to be a different process than just sending them to the clink... but why should the SOP be, "You have no ID and yer from another country? Ok... move along... nothing to see here...."

Who's killing who?

And what I meant about the cops going back is that I'm CERTAIN her told them his ID was back at the hotel. That's why the cops were idiotic.

I live in Illinois... a great sanctuary state... but if you get pulled over without a license yer going downtown buddy... at the very least yer getting your car towed.

Recent corporate history may have elevated precisely the wrong type of people to positions of great power and public trust. Unfeeling, but not insane

Psychopathy should not be confused with insanity. It is best described by Robert Hare, global expert and psychologist, as "emotional deafness" a biochemical inability to experience normal feelings of empathy for others.

This shark-like fixation on self-interest means that psychopaths often feel a clear detachment from other people, viewing them more as sheep to be preyed upon than fellow humans to relate to. For instance, psychopaths in prison often use group therapy sessions not as a healing process, but as an opportunity to learn how to simulate normal human emotions.

Studies on twins have revealed that psychopathy shows a strong genetic signature and there remains no effective treatment. Recent research has linked the condition to physical abnormalities in the amygdala region of the brain.

Social capital is the glue that holds together our communities, complex societies, large institutions and the economy. The one and only superpower possessed by psychopaths is their ruthless ability to spend the social capital created by others.

Only a small subset of psychopaths become the violent criminals so often fictionalized in film. Most simply seek to blend in and conceal their difference in order to more effectively manipulate others. This frightening condition has existed throughout human history, though likely in a marginal and socially parasitic way.

Psychopaths are often outwardly charming and excellent self-promoters, they are also typically terrible managers, bullying co-workers and creating chaos to conceal their behavior.

When employed in senior levels, their pathology also means they are biochemically incapable of something they are legally required to do: act in good faith on behalf of other people. The banking and corporate sector is built on the ancient principle of fiduciary duty, a legal obligation to act in the best interest of those whose money or property you are entrusted with. Asking a psychopath to do that is like recruiting a pyromaniac to be a firefighter.

Psychopaths have installed themselves in the upper reaches of the world's financial institutions, their genetic deficiency dictates that their greed knows no bounds. They will continue to act in anti-social, remorseless ways, amplified by their enormous corporate influence until the institutions they represent and perhaps the entire global economy collapses.

And what about elected officials? There is no higher standard of trust in our society than standing for public office. Campaigning politicians are expected to submit to almost absurd levels of scrutiny about their private lives, character and personal relationships. Should not candidates begin providing voters proof that they are medically capable of acting in the interests of the public that may elect them?

The Occupy Wall Street protesters demanding an end to the reign of the "1% may have unwittingly stumbled on the crux of the issue. Science tells us that 99% of humans have normal emotional function. 1% are psychopaths. We ignore that truth at our peril.

I so hope that is a joke. The guy works for a company that hires more workers then any other private company in the state.

This asshole was in my country doing a job that an American could have had.

Hey, Mr. Obtuse, Mercedes employs more than 3,000 Americans in Alabama.

From the article:

"Before the new law, a citation would have been issued and the driver would have been sent on his way."

How does this make more sense? He's driving around in a car that has no license plate and he has no driver's license as far as anyone knew at the time.

At the very least, the car should have been towed and he should have been dropped off in the nearest town - which really isn't much worse than what happened to him.

Responses #12 & #13 are prime examples of why most motion picture scripts require the plot be explained every 20 minutes, lest there be a plethora of "huh? wha?".

If you couldn't read #6 and see the giant tongue-in-cheek parked right in front of you, it's because your ego choose not to see it. Dense and obtuse is no way to go through life, gentlemen. In Verno's case, he thinks they're both food groups.

Yav, reposted this thread has it was up 2 weeks ago was it not.

English isn't even you second language, is it? I've met Mensa members...you ain't one of them.

Aw...fudge...it's "your" with a #@%&! "r". I really, really hate typos. I guess I'm not one either. Nyuk nyuk...

More crony capitalism where Alabama taxpayers were forced to pay up to get this German business in their state. They probably even paid up more to compete with other Americans in other states. We have a sorry system of capitalism that takes from private taxpaying citizens and gives to business. When did this 3rd world bribery that is detrimental to citizens become legal?

The US government should have import laws / tariffs that requires a company that sells here to produce it here, just as in most other countries.
