A UN-backed tribunal begins proceedings in Cambodia on Monday against the three highest-ranking surviving members of the Khmer Rouge. Pol Pot's second-in-command Nuon Chea, former foreign minister Ieng Sary and former head of state Khieu Samphan are charged with overseeing torture and genocide from 1975 to 1979, up to 2 million Cambodians died under the brutal communist regime.
