Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

During a town hall meeting in Ottumwa, Iowa, Friday, Rick Santorum said Americans receive too many government benefits and ought to "suffer" in the Christian tradition. "If you're lower income, you can qualify for Medicaid, you can qualify for food stamps, you can qualify for housing assistance," Santorum lamented. "Suffering is part of life and it's not a bad thing, it is an essential thing in life."

Another "Compassionate Conservative". Perhaps we should also be passing out that book on how to beat your kids in the Christian manner.

Mr. Santorum:

If you like suffering so much, I suggest you get your ass down to the nearest gay bar and announce who you are.

You'll suffer, trust me. Without anyone laying a glove on you.

Santorum can suffer to lose half his paycheck and he will be all right. No?

"If "you're lower income, you can qualify for Medicaid, you can qualify for food stamps, you can qualify for housing assistance..."

...(all of which I'm voting against)...

It's clear we can't keep up spending like we are and hope to get back to a normal economy. So spending will have to be cut. This doesn't necessarily mean suffering, but if it does, that sometimes is part of the cure of a disease.

Yes, you have to be cruel to be kind.

As I said in another thread today -- I am sure we could cut out 25% of government spending without anyone being adversely affected, except for 25% of government workers. I've been through many layoffs and have seen as much as 25% of the workplace put on the street and business went on as usual -- just without the dead beats. If it can be done in corporate America, the bloated federal workforce can certainly do it.

Then tackle spending on goods and services which are overpriced and overused. These simple steps would bring us back in the black in no time.

Bullshit and you know it. 'Fess up old man.

btw. how's your health? Someone said you were sick? I hope it's nothing serious.

Bullshit and you know it. 'Fess up old man.

Deficit spending has never coincided with a maintained healthy economy.

Thanks for asking. I was in the hospital for a week with what was diagnosed as COPD. I disagree since the C stands for chronic and it was the first time it happened. But they made me better and I can breathe again. Pulmonologist said I'm doing better than expected.

Precisely - he's scum. Is he still holding an office?

What Is COPD?

COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary (PULL-mun-ary) disease, is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe. "Progressive" means the disease gets worse over time.

COPD can cause coughing that produces large amounts of mucus (a slimy substance), wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other symptoms.

Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of COPD. Most people who have COPD smoke or used to smoke. Long-term exposure to other lung irritants, such as air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust, also may contribute to COPD.

I study diseases for a living. Chronic doesn't mean it has to always be there. It can start late. Do you smoke? Is the rig a dirty working environment?

Having a respiratory problem is my worst nightmare. Get better soon.

I smoke very little. Maybe two packs a year, if that. The rig is a dirty environment, but not air quality-wise. They are quite strict AAMOF about working in potentially hazardous areas where the air is questionable. The space has to be ventilated for 24 hours and sniffers have to be worn on one's body. And in some cases and OBA (O2 Breathing Apparatus) is still required.

But actually, if the pulmonologist is correct, I did get it from the rig, but a viral thing. We had a particularly nasty virus make the rounds (and they do quickly as you can imagine in a confined environment like that). I never get the "rig flu" when it comes around, but I got this one. The doctor said it caused the inside part of my bronchial passages sloughed off making them more irritable and constricting.

I feel great now.

I feel great now.

Good hopefully things will stay that way.
The best of health to you.

I feel great now.

Good to know.

This thing... specially if you got it from a virus... can be kept under control no worries but only if you never smoke again. Not even a single cigarette. Ever.

And fuck Jackass.

"ought to "suffer" in the Christian tradition"

Christ said the poor should suffer? LOL!

Christ would advocate that one give away everything to the less fortunate and choose to suffer himself instead.

Saying others should suffer isn't "Christian". Its just being a clueless prick.

Goat! Glad to hear you're okay. Sounds a bit scary.

I don't wish disease or illness on even the nastiest posters here. And I actually like you. (Go ahead, somebody insert a gay crack here.)

Just use your own.

Given the crappy job he's doing campaigning, making Americans suffer must be the only reason why he's running.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Rick Santorum - 2003:

"I came to the House as a real deficit hawk, but I am no longer a deficit hawk," said Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.). "I'll tell you why. I had to spend the surpluses. Deficits make it easier to say no."

"And I actually like you."

Get a room!

COPD is the new catch all diagnosis for some Docs that know little about industry.
Puffers for all,no lung capacity test required.

Drug companies are bombarding docs with COPD treatment plans.
When I was a young pipe-fitter we use to beat the crap out of the asbestos insulation to get at the flange bolts etc on shutdowns. If you went for a paper dust mask you were a pussy wasting time.

Ten years later you can have an area closed off with hazmat over a couple of asbestos fibers.
thirty years later 4th hand smoke can get you.Work in industry, lung problem, must be COPD or asbestosis.

Lest you forget who is the party of making people dependent on the government (taxpayers) for their government cheese. I see women at the grocery store with their newly manicured nails, talking on their cell phones, and driving their rented cars, using their EBT cards. They are buying HO HO cakes, soft drinks, and crap. That is what AMERICANS call lazy.
Good for Santorum.

I realize that it is painful for the Liberals to have to face the truth that their ideology is one of laziness, but all Black Conservatives know the truth. Pull yourself up, stand tall, be proud, and get a flippin job. It is not up to someone else to take care of you once you are released from your mother's hand!

Goatman, it doesn't get better, COPD is progressive, it gets worse, you are at the stage I was 4 years ago, now I take 2 puff puff's daily plus need supplemental Oxygen, I can't walk more than a block. As it gets worse you will need puff puff's , guaranteed.

For medication supplies, check out AllDayChemist.

Source for puff puff's www.alldaychemist.com (in India)

spiriva 30 day supply
...Costco $229.88
...Canada Drugs $109.33 generic
...All Day Chemist $9.90 same as Canadian Generic

Symbicort 60 day supply
...Costco (Us) $367.00
...Canada $111.00 (generic Foracort)
...All Day Chemist 8.57 (same generic Foracort)

Takes 2 weeks to get from all day chemist in India, they add a 25.00 handling fee to the order, whether 1 or 10 handling fee stays at 25.00 for total order, so I always order 90 day supply. Just submit your prescription and order.

Oxygen Concentrators from 600.00 and up. Rebuilt's from 200.00 and up. Search google

I don't believe that his idea about that will go over very big. Too many people are suffering right now-no job, house value down, 401 K down.

"Goatman, it doesn't get better..."

Every now and then God (or G-d as kanrei would say) reveals Himself (especially for a liar: here and here.)

"Lest you forget who is the party of making people dependent on the government (taxpayers) for their government cheese. I see women at the grocery store with their newly manicured nails, talking on their cell phones, and driving their rented cars, using their EBT cards. That's what "Reagan" called a "welfare queen."

And that's why African-Americans are smart enough to recognize the racism of a comment like this.

I realize that it is painful for the conservative assholes to have to face the truth that their ideology is one of bigotry, but most African-Americans know the truth.

Hans is back. Been a while. Welcome back.

Santorum used a poor choice of words. He should not have said that people should suffer but instead should have said that people will suffer. It's now in the cards. We had a choice as a nation 3 years ago and that choice was the road of acute pain and then redemption or the road of chronic pain and ultimately redemption. We chose the road of chronic pain and it's slowly unfolding. I used to tell my kids that when a significant choice came up in their lives, that the hard choice was more often then not the right choice---as a nation we made the easy choices 3 years ago; as debt now grows exponentially, there will come a point in the not distant future where we'll have to struggle to even pay the interest on that debt. Spain just gave a crushing defeat to the socialist party who they overwhelmingly blame for the problems their country now faces. Their new leader has gone in front of them all and spelled out to them the tough medicine they'll need to right the boat----it seems those voters are finally ready for the measures.

So, Matshit? It would have been better to let McPoopypants complete the bankrupting of the USA and entere a full blown depression? 40% unemployment, 5 shooting wars and a moosefart one heartbeat away from President?

Right.

Keep watching Fuck Snooze and popping those Prozac. Everything will be fine in the morning.

Yeah Matsop, we did make a bad choice, we should have raised taxes just like we should raise taxes now. Your kind likes to whine about debt but refuse to consider taxes thereby making your posts irrelevant nonsense. We will not fix our problems without raising taxes on the wealthy, anyone who tells you different is lying to you.

If you read my posts in the past you would be aware that I've constantly advocated a longterm plan consisting of 1.decreasing the rate of increasing spending and 2.selected carefully planned out tax increases. No, the super 12 fell flat on their face and nothing will come to pass with them. The problem across the globe and America results from governments over the years not being fiscally responsible with overspending the primary problem. SPENDING is the primary problem. This will now end badly for the globe. We have no leadership either in the WH or congress. Eventually, the dollar will tip its' cap and head south and we'll (its' beginning) have inflation we haven't seen in year with minimal growth.

CORRECTION FROM SANTORUM: Non-rich Americans should suffer so we can keep the temporary Bush tax cuts for the rich.

Santorum went on to say, "While we now recognize that the Bush tax cuts along with increased military spending did not in fact reduce the federal debt, we feel it would be unfair to rich people to roll back the tax cuts they have come to enjoy. If the poor or middle class are that unhappy about all the jobs shipped overseas, then they shouldn't have chosen to be poor or middle class instead of rich. See, it's their own fault."

Buddha said life is suffering.

Its not just christian tradition.

We all already suffer. But as civilized society we should eliminate as much suffering as possible realizing that suffering will always exist and realizing that we will always fight to continue to eliminate it... our endless battle.

Calling it a nature of life is no excuse not to combat it.

"CORRECTION FROM SANTORUM: Non-rich Americans should suffer so we can keep the temporary Bush tax cuts for the rich."

So does the "temporary" aspects of the Bush Tax Cuts reflect the eight years since passed, or the extentions of the current Obama rate until 2013?

Aside from the moron driven claim non rich are suffering because of the Obama tax rate, if taxing the rich 100% still leaves a $500 billion dollar deficit each year, exactly how do the mis-fortunate suffer because the wealthy's tax rate is the current 35-36%?

"Buddha said life is suffering.

Its not just christian tradition."

What Santorum said was not in the Christian tradition. He specifically singled out the poor. The Christian tradition would be for people who have alot to give up some of what they have in order to help the less fortunate. Christ didn't say "YOU should suffer while I go home to my mansion". Rather, he suffered so others wouldn't have to....

Real Christians would find what Santorum said to be in direct opposition to their beliefs.

"Real Christians would find what Santorum said to be in direct opposition to their beliefs."

agreed.

all i'm saying is suffering IS part of life, but in the same token we should still as a society and individually fight for ending our own as well as other's suffering.

Santorum is a shining example of exactly what this country must be rid of in order to advance.

The ONLY thing he said is, 'If you've been there you don't want to go back'! I've been on both sides, I NEVER want to be beholden to ANYONE again! It's that S-I-M-P-L-E!

Take your RIDLIN, shut-up until you have a clear idea - then express it! If you're poor, unemployed, temporarily in the dump, THEN the Government should come to help you (they should do all in their power to get you back on your feet, also!)! If you're looking for work, keep getting paid for the search, if you can't find a job AFTER THE INITIAL PERIOD of unemployment - get into a training course (certified) to receive future benefits - NOTHING should last forever!

No one should set a goal of getting AND staying on the Government dole, kind of a low standard there! But NO ONE in CONGESS should set a standard of KEEPING YOU THERE for their gain (next election anyone - is this what you're paying $175,000.00 PLUS for?)!

What was it asked by then Candidate Reagan, 'ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW THAN YOU WERE FOUR YEARS AGO? If so, vote for more of the same!' Are you?

" If so, vote for more of the same!' Are you?"

me personally ..oh hell yea...

durring the bush years my salary went down until his last 2 years... and then after obama, my salary and my desirability in the private sector has gone up double the bush era salaries i was making..

how bout you?
has your life really gone to shit now? post obama or are you just talking shit?

What is it about conservatives and facts? Federal revenue as a % of GDP is the lowest it has been since 1945, but you think we need to cut spending. Spending has remained relatively flat, but revenues have been falling from 18-19% in the 80's and 90's to 14.4% today. It's clearly a revenue problem.

The more religious they are, the less compassion they have.

"suffer" in the Christian tradition?

What does that even mean? Let the Romans throw you to the lions and the Jews do that and worse? Beat yourself with a flail because some nut bag tells you that is what you need to do for sins? Bow down to your supreme religious dictator? Christianity is about ending suffering of others and compassion - unless you are a douche bag crazy interpretist.

Liars' worst nightmare is in the house!

Only today's republican party could read "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter heaven" and come away with : "fuck the poor, I got mine."

Santorum is a nutcase ~ yes, a real one.

The only time he suffers is when he has trouble thinking up another penny-ante scheme to rip off the people who live in his district.

Right now, Santorum just sees the U.S. Treasury as a bigger piggy bank.

He must have one huge ego to think that nobody remembers the details of why Pennsylvania booted him out of Washington D.C. in the first place.
