Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Ten journalists covering the late-night police raid to clear out the Occupy encampment at New York City's Zucotti Park were arrested Tuesday, keeping them from covering the event. Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the arrests were "to prevent a situation from getting worse and to protect members of the press." The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the arrests. "We are alarmed by New York law enforcement's treatment of journalists covering the eviction of Occupy Wall Street today," said Carlos Lauria, CPJ senior coordinator for the Americas. "Journalists must be allowed to cover news events without fear of arrest and harassment."

It's unsettling when this shit is happening under the watch of the sitting President that we'll still support because no better options are on the public stage. What the hell is wrong with this country?

"It's unsettling when this shit is happening under the watch of the sitting President that we'll still support because no better options are on the public stage. What the hell is wrong with this country?

What exactly do you expect the President to be doing? Realize that the police beat protesters and much worse under the administrations of Kennedy and Johnson.

"Realize that the police beat protesters and much worse under the administrations of Kennedy and Johnson."

Which is why I'm delighted to see police misconduct of this kind. The cycle always goes like this:

1) Protesters protest something.
2) The powers that be get upset.
3) The powers that be send in the cops.
4) The cops beat the shit out of people.
5) The beatings generate sympathy for the protesters.
6) The sympathy takes the protesters out of the fringe, and makes their cause more mainstream.
7) Sympathetic people begin supporting the protesters, swelling their ranks.
8) Their numbers bolstered and large numbers of people on their side, the protesters eventually get what they want.

This is what happened with the civil rights movement. It will happen again with OWS. There would not be this kind of reaction from police if they were not directed to do so by some badly frightened people in positions of power.

#2 I would expect him to hold police accountable (eg: FBI) for their crimes when the whole world is watching. Otherwise his non-action speaks loudly. After all he is supposed to be "Chief executive".

Me too, MTW, but I'm delighted for a different reason----it's always a positive to have a lefty whacked once in awhile on general principle. I wonder when Danni's going to join the movement.

"-it's always a positive to have a lefty whacked once in awhile on general principle."

That sounds like a statement made by someone who fears his side's ideas can't compete.

I don't know what my side's ideas are since I'm not on anyone's side. I actually applaud both the Tea Party and some of the OWS for their protestations since when you amalgamate the Tea Party ideas with SOME of what I believe are the OWS ideas; they don't fall far from what I believe and feel is best for this country. It's ironic that what needs to be done to meet both the Tea Party's wants and SOME of the OWS wants does not forge the chasm that the partisans on both sides believes exists.

"There would not be this kind of reaction from police if they were not directed to do so by some badly frightened people in positions of power."

I suspect you are right. The level of police violence directed against the protesters is a gauge of the fear felt by their benefactors. One cop called into a talk show about the Oakland OWS protests, he said the cops are loving it for all the OT. Mayors not so much. This protest will get expensive PDQ for the cities, counties, states. Eventually, it will be cheaper to listen to what the protesters are actually saying. Seattle did, they are reexamining how city funds are banked, invested, etc. to see if they are rewarding the crooks on Wall St. Several other major cities are doing the same thing. That is success any way you cut it.

Well, uh....

Why are you talking about whacking on people then?

Since I just feel the left element should periodically receive a few love whacks when they misbehave----it just reinforces to them that they don't have a right to destroy other peoples' rights.

Which is? Last I knew, they were still brainstorming their wish list in between the sexual assaults.

"-it just reinforces to them that they don't have a right to destroy other peoples' rights."

How many whacks does your side deserve for DOMA?

Like I said; I don't have a side. Now then, since I don't have a side, please elucidate for me what the acronym DOMA stands for.

- The Defense of Marriage Act, one of the most odious pieces of legislation ever to be passed by Congress.

Well, I don't see too much odious as regards the title. I'll have to peruse the legislation to see what it says-----based on the fact you don't have strong opinions about anything and are very open-minded, it'll be interesting to see what it says.

tomorrow should be great right? we'll get to see all the damage the police did to these people and reporters that were "beaten"..betting we wont- nice source, Huffpo never slants a story. no tweet pics of people being abused by the cops, no blood or blackeyes. 1 lady said her arm was grabbed, holy shit.

"I'll have to peruse the legislation to see what it says"

Basically, it says this group, over here, can enter into protective legal contracts granting superseding rights and legal advantages to each other, but that group, over there, is barred from entering into the same legal contracts.

Shocking MTW ignores the Clinton of old who was for the DOMA. lol

In a June 1996 interview in the gay and lesbian magazine The Advocate,
Clinton said: "I remain opposed to same-sex marriage. I believe marriage is an institution for the union of a man and a woman. This has been my long-standing position, and it is not being reviewed or reconsidered.

He did not mention the issue in his 2004 autobiography. Over time, Clinton's personal views on same-sex marriage shifted. In July 2009 he said "I personally support people doing what they want to do. I think it's wrong for someone to stop someone else from doing that [gay marriage]." Clinton added that he personally supports same-sex marriage but does not believe it is a "federal question", stating, "I think all these states that do it should do it."

well whats one of the first things DONE by marxist..socailist...statists.
..dictators...communists...and all sorts of other 'ists'..

they TAKE OVER AND CONTROL THE MEDIA.....

then they do as hitler did..take out church bells and then of course as in all good communist/socialist states..music and art will be next..those things that can inspire people to tell the politbureau to FUCK OFF....

I guess you libs realy love mayor bloomer bottom.

After all he is supposed to be "Chief executive".

He tried that. After his buddy Gates got arrested on for trying to break into his own house, he said the police "acted stupidly."
It was a major talking point for a few weeks and even resulted in a Beer Summit.
He won't micromanage the police again.

Guess I'm not really seeing the problem here. Were these journalists denied bail? Due process? Will they be held in prison indefinitely? Were their pencils and pads confiscated? I would think they would get an even better story, sensationalism and all being arrested and such.

Maybe they didn't get the memo, "Park will be cleared." Maybe they need to write "Press" in bigger letters on their clothes. Oh wait I know. They're journalists so they're above the law and can hang out in the park all they want.

Yes sir, the story of America's finest citizens being cleared from a feces ridden camp may never be told now thanks to da Man. It sure does suck thinking you're immune to police orders and then get the wake up call. Well at least they'll have stories to pass on to the grandkids.

I guess you libs realy love mayor bloomer bottom.

Political party

Democratic Party (until 2001)
Republican Party (2001 - 2007)
Independent (2007 - present)

Kinda like the Trisexual of politics. $10 says MaryTylerWhore gets a chubby for him.

With a net worth of $19.5 billion in 2011, he is also the 12th-richest person in the United States. Hell I might even think about it.

***10 Journalists Arrested at Zucotti Raid***

.....the first casualty of war is the truth......

Whore is a pre-op that will inject faggotry, incest, transgenders, and some times all 3 in to any conversation, regardless of how illogical the leap is...

Is there any doubt that you queers are mentally unstable? For fuck's sake, whore, stfu and maybe people will think your fucked up ilk are actually normal (I say as I dismissively laugh at that silly notion).

dont know why its really that hard for morons like Skizziks to understand-- police are clearing the park, everyone must leave the park. you are free to watch from across the street. The police have a job to do, the press were in the way and as usual, tried to be part of the story instead of just reporting on it.

Getting clubbed on behalf of truth and freedom was old hat even when Gandhi's disciples suffered that fate. But here are ten journalists who surely will quit worshiping at the altar of objectivity and tell it like it is. herm

Walked by a "OWS" site near my workplace the other day...Basically? These people stink...No I mean really STINK...Stinking up the place in so many ways. Literally and figuratively. Americas 2008 brain fart lives on. NOBAMA 2012.

NOBAMA 2012.
#29 | POSTED BY TKRAMMER82 AT 2011-11-16 03:08 PM

So you mean ABB (Anybody But Bush)? Sorry. Republicans have not provided a better alternative.

Good luck with that NOBAMA 2012. Anybody But Bush didn't work in 2004 - why would that shit work in 2012?

and why not? He is only helping the cause. You goons should try reading history sometime. They'll only be back and in bigger numbers.

This treatment of journalists represents a parallel state of mind between the NYPD denying coverage of the raid, which if taken to an extreme would deny existence of the raid, and the DOJ which was trying to make if lawful for them to deny existence of FOIA documents (www.foxnews.com).

At least the DOJ has withdrawn their request for permission to lie.

Why shouldn't those so-calleds journalists be arrested along with the protesters when they are both the same stinky liberal scumbags.

Arresting journalists... cheer on Conservitards, lets lose more freedoms in order to be partisan hacks.

lets lose more freedoms in order to be partisan hacks

It's what they're good at.

But since they're Christians, they're good at play the victim.

Everything would have been ok if they had sent in these guys.

"We arrested them to protect them".

Where have we heard this before? Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, China...
