Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

It was only a few years ago that the USPS was considered not only stable, but thriving. The biggest volume in pieces of mail handled by the Postal Service in its 236-year history was in 2006. The second and third busiest years were in 2005 and 2007, respectively. But it was two events: one crafted during the Bush years and another supervised by House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, that would cripple this once great institution.

It's been a republican tactic for some time. Deliberately sabotage government or government managed services and then use the results to point out what a failure government is.

I've been reading about this and was aware of it but not surprisingly I've heard nothing on major media about it at all.

Like the Gunrunner scam and the second amendment.

How The GOP Is Taking Down The US Postal Service

It's amazing to me. These people just have zero interest in the public welfare.

That is pretty surprising to be honest. I would have thought the Email age would have hurt the USPS.

Lysander Spooner almost ended it by himself... until the gubbmint outlawed competition.

Public Welfare = Mutually Assured Destruction.

For the record, Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Danny Davis [D-IL] were co-sponsers of this bill.

HR 6407

What a dumb thing to say.

Good to know.

What a dumb thing to say.

Not if you're a rugged individualist who doesn't need no stinkin' gubmint!

That is pretty surprising to be honest. I would have thought the Email age would have hurt the USPS.

Not with eBay constantly sending deals to my inbox.

EBay, Netflix, and Amazon! Of course!

So, as soon as they went to universal health care and publicly-financed pensions, it blew up. Is that about right?

FedEx spends about 20 million a year lobbying DC, most of it to Republicans as soft money. That number doesn't include the fleet of planes it keeps at the ready for legislators to use at their leisure. We shouldn't be surprised when those Republicans then write legislation that destroys the business model of their biggest competitor, pass that legislation through unanimous consent in the Senate, and keep the House votes secret.

And yeah, it had two bought-and-paid-for democrats as sponsors, that's what is important here. "Mommy he did it too" is such a useful defense.

"How The GOP Is Taking Down The US Postal Service"

Postal Accountability Enhancement Act

Cosponsors:
Danny Davis [D-IL7]
John McHugh [R-NY23]
Henry Waxman [D-CA30]

Dec 8, 2006: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote. A record of each representative's position was not kept.

Dec 9, 2006: This bill passed in the Senate by Unanimous Consent. A record of each senator's position was not kept.

Isn't that convenient.

Well, I think unanimous consent means that each senator's position was "yes". Am I missing something?

Ebay and Netflix could not exist without the USPS. Amazon would be hurt pretty bad, as well.

Millions of eBay sellers would be completely screwed if Priority Mail went away.

Netflix couldn't exist without the USPS to deliver those DVDs. (Can you imagine how much Fedex would charge them!!!

A very significant portion of Amazons deliveries are by USPS postal carriers. They use a hybrid Fedex/USPS service that has the carriers delivering the parces but Fedex takes it to the post office hub.

Why do the GOP Teabaggers HATE SMALL (and not-so small)BUSINESSES??

#15 Convenient indeed.

I'm sure by unanimous, they mean unanimous amongst republicans only. Mainly because I'm a retard that continually gets shit-kicked every time I start a thread or express an opinion.
-Darthcheney

The USPS is an entity that was routinely abused by the postal carriers. Everyone of us has lived in the same neighborhood as one of these shitheals at some point in your life. They'd do 3 hours of work and hide at home for 7 and get overtime.

They're shitbags, like axe.

Sounds like Chairpuddle's colostomy bag is backed up again.

#13 | Posted by rightisright at 2011-09-13 01:51 PM

Not quite.

Oh look, axe responded to the only post I penned to him that didn't remind him he got steamrolled on the longshoremen thread. I'll bet he didn't read this article either.

Why do you dumbfuckers make it so easy to smack you around? maybe Darth could answer?

My own personal troll. How nice.

Better get your ladyboy to change that bag, Puddle.

Hatefilled pieces of shit are all the GOP has left. See that wet spot under chairpuddle's Barcolounger?

That's the Republican Base.

So reminding you that you were too much of a pussy to go back in to a thread where you made a fool of yourself is trolling? I can live with that. Hell, it's way better than looking like a retarded speedbag like you did in that thread, dummy.

Is Darthcheney looking up the definition of "unanimous" or did he beat feet like he always does after getting his ass kicked? Just like axehole...

Well, I think unanimous consent means that each senator's position was "yes". Am I missing something?

Nope. Just calling attention to the inconsistency between the substance of the story and the headline.

Unanimous.

Just calling attention to the inconsistency between the substance of the story and the headline.

Does it matter if every Democrat voted the same as the Republicans? They are Democrats and do no wrong. That is why Obama is correct for keeping everything Bush was wrong for doing.

"Does it matter if every Democrat voted the same as the Republicans?"

Pardon me. I forgot where I was.

Hey, has anyone seen DarthCheney? I wonder what caused that dumbshit to disappear so suddenly?

Nope. Just calling attention to the inconsistency between the substance of the story and the headline.

It's a valid point. In retrospect the headline should be:

How Congress Is Taking Down The US Postal Service

Hey, has anyone seen DarthCheney?

Dodging CHAIRPOODLE feces.

The feces and puss filled condom named Chairpuddle doesn't seem to realize that most people here have real lives and aren't connected to DR like some kind of life support system for the terminally stupid like him.

Yes, it is possible to NOT BE ON DR FOR HOURS OR EVEN DAYS AT A TIME and suffer no ill effects other than giving a terminal case of but hurt to some troll with an insult that you may have missed in your absence.

Perhaps you should explore this possibility.

Too funny...For days you were hounded about your longshoremen stupidity and you ran like a bitch. The very first comment I make to you where i don't bring it up and coincidentally you respond. Do you really think people are as stupid as you, cunt?

Dodging CHAIRPOODLE feces.

Just think, if you didn't continually type demonstrably false shit you wouldn't have to, dummy.

Chairpuddle....the new Goatfat!!!!

I wonder how long it will take him to figure out how to create extra userids so he can have his own BBOB to 'debate' with??? Maybe one of his ladyboys can show him how?

Axe are you cracking on ladyboys? Is that self hatred coming through? Does your make up run when you cry yourself to sleep at night?

Nothing virulently racist about that comment...

Funny to use the word "Virulently". Google the word and it is used almost exclusively by leftist, gays and atheists.

Come up with an original thought and stop being Obama's ass whiper. He has a pet gorilla for that.

That seems a lot less stupid than posting an article you didn't read or research, adding a ridiculously partisan headline, and then looking like a fucking retard when the fact that the vote was unanimous comes out...

Maybe a friend emailed the story to Darth and he just posted it as fact. You know, AmericanUnity style....

41--And YouHateMe on another thread has been insisting he's not racist. Ya gotta love this shit.

Wow. You're really going out on a limb to defend a fellow racist. Especially with the whole "posting an article you didn't read or research" line, given your solid reputation for posting well thought out and researched comments and threads.

I'm not defending anyone, I'm pointing out how stupid you come across making fun of anybody in a thread where you looked so fucking stupid.

The fact I had to explain that to you should tell you something...

An audit done by the Postal Service's Office of Inspector General came up with the figure of $75 billion in pension overpayments. Then, the Postal Regulatory Commission, an independent agency that actually received more autonomous power under PAEA, commissioned its own independent audit. The commission placed the overpayment at $50 billion.

Therein lies the reason for wanting it killed.

"Wow. You're really going out on a limb to defend a fellow racist."

How does implying you are a retard for starting a thread which you admit should be changed defend anyone? If anything you are insulting the retards for being in the same group.

The GOP want to privatize everything.

The postmaster general has been on television recently stating that 150,000 jobs will be cut by the end of the year.

Another interviewee asked about the profits keeping the US Postal Services solvent during the prior years - he was silent.

So, as soon as they went to universal health care and publicly-financed pensions, it blew up. Is that about right?

#13 | Posted by rightisright

no.. but do babble on though..

The postal service also claims that mandated payments to its pension plans since the 1970s have left them overfunded by somewhere between $57 billion and $82 billion. That's money, in other words, that has been unavailable to help fund everyday operations.

Legislation proposed by Democratic Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware would let the USPS tap those surpluses to help finance healthcare premiums, and provide more flexibility in terms of how it manages worker benefits.

www.usnews.com

figure the odds of the Republicans ever allowing this.

Netflix couldn't exist without the USPS to deliver those DVDs. (Can you imagine how much Fedex would charge them!!!

#17 | Posted by axe

That's is not a correct statement. And in fact, NetFlix would like to get out of the DVD delivery business entirely, as it costs a great deal of money to manage the physical DVDs. NetFlix would far prefer that all customers stream movies. And that is the direction NetFlix is pushing the customer. NetFlix has already announced a significant price increase for those who still want streaming and have physical DVDs delivered.

"NetFlix has already announced a significant price increase for those who still want streaming and have physical DVDs delivered."

Indeed, they have.

I keep the delivery option open because there's a pile of stuff they don't have (and aren't likely to have for the foreseeable future) available on streaming.

The Republican Corporatist Servants break it , then claim its broken, as laying the ground work to defund it and gain support to slush fund it and misappropriate funds to line their pockets with donations to the foundations and campaigns for corporate favored kickback policies in exchange. conservativecorporatism.blogsp
