Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) gave an opening statement in a debate Wednesday night against challenger Terry Goddard (D) that was so awkward it's making news. "I have ... done so much and I just cannot believe that we have changed everything since I've become your governor in the last 600 days," Brewer said. "We have cut the budget, we have balanced the budget and we are moving forward. We have done everything that we could possibly do," the governor paused for a 10 seconds -- an eternity in a live televised debate -- before looking down at her notes.

Well she did the absolute best that anyone could do!

Now that's funny!

Man, I thought she was really going to vomit and then you could say, "It's ok Jan, your idiotic policies make me sick too!"

Screw your for the tease foamypants!

Sorry TM, but I really had no idea how to explain it any other way.

My God she is a freaking idiot! Did you watch the interview after the debate? If she wins the election in November I will be amazed. I haven't really been paying attention to the immigration debate because I consider it a red herring, but if this is the best leader the people behind the movement to arrest and and deport illegal immigrants at the state level can find, then they are screwed.

This performance probably wouldn't pass the smell test in a junior high school class president election. Screams reams about Arizona's political situation, though.

Truly pathetic.

Some people produce results while sounding less than a great orator while others sound like a great orator but are freaking nuts. Me! I will go with results.

"If she wins the election in November I will be amazed. I haven't really been paying attention to the immigration debate because I consider it a red herring..."

So do I. But you ever been in Arizona much? At the moment, Rasmussen (FWTW) has Brewer leading Goddard 57%-38% (www.rasmussenreports.com).

Goddard's an outwardly effete, pencil-necked geek whose father -- onetime guv Sam Goddard -- was also an outwardly effete, pencil-necked geek (the mother was a lovely, nice person).

But there are only a few politicians I'd sideline in favor of Jan Brewer. She's an embarrassment to this nation's burgeoning dolt population.

here ya go, just the facts:
The other administration member is communications director Paul Senseman, a former CCA lobbyist. His wife still lobbies for the company [...]

Isaacs said private prison companies have been buying influence in Arizona politics for years. The number of private prisons and jails operating across the state shows the result of that influence, he said. Currently, there are at least 12 for-profit prison, jail and detention facilities in Arizona.

Isaacs said the state has something else that attracts these companies.

"The other Holy Grail, if you will, of private prison construction is immigrant detention," Isaac said.

Corrections Corporation of America holds the contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to lock up illegal immigrants picked up in Arizona. Tough immigration laws like Arizona's SB 1070 could send thousands of new bodies its way, and millions of dollars.

i tell ya, the reporter who broke this ought to get an award. and where is the outrage?

And the puppeteer is a retard.

btw, in the debate she says of her accomplishments is to "sue Obamacare" and "fight (push-back against) the Federal government."

She's lucky she isn't Pinocchio.

And the puppeteer is a retard.

Not according to Larry Niven

(I'm reading "Juggler of Worlds" right now)

Even luckier that speaking English isn't required in AZ yet. She could be in jail this morning.

Yeah, #9 doesn't make any sense after RCADE merged the threads.

I believe she filed suit back in May suing Obama care. As for the push back against the Fed gov. You really need to read up on the multiple federal lawsuits against Arizona. Not to mention the UN Human Rights report our State Department is submitting.

"Even luckier that speaking English isn't required in AZ yet."

Of course anyone who has ever come back into the US from the southern border is asked their citizenship. I wonder how many of those legally here that don't speak english, are offended or feel their rights have been violated when they have to provide proof.

you would think the opening statement would be well thought out at least.

this wasn't even in response to something that she was not expecting, how long did it take her to write this?

This performance probably wouldn't pass the smell test in a junior high school class president election.

i tell ya, the reporter who broke this ought to get an award. and where is the outrage?

Jan's so pissed she's pulled all political advertising from the station where that reporter works. When I say "she" I mean she and the CCA lobby guy that also runs her campaign.

unless something huge happens, more than her spewing such rhetoric, she will win come november.

she is a one trick pony in that she has sb1070 and little else... but that is huge here in az.
i agree with her on that though her opponent is against it.
and he is double digit points down and is a democrat.
that spells doom for him.

i am reminded of the phrase, 'we get the government we deserve'.

indeed.

I'm reading "Juggler of Worlds" right now

Read Ringworld. The puppeteer is, indeed, slightly retarded.

"This performance probably wouldn't pass the smell test in a junior high school class president election."

I wouldn't know; I'm not allowed within 1500 feet of a junior high.

Its gonna boil down to who has the most money to lie with on TV.

AT&T wireless has the most dropped calls. So what do they do? Run ads saying they have the least dropped calls.

I've read all the ringworld books. The original is a classic. The puppeteer's basic inherent flaw was that they were extrememly paranoid and scared of their own shadows. Also, they could not funtion alone, only effectively as a herd.

But they were grandmasters of technology

Niven dreamed up cool aliens, but there is a basic "design flaw" in the puppeteers. Their eye/"finger"/mouth organ was quite a distance from their brain. Considering the very slow nerve transmittal times (at least in terrestrial lifeforms) the time delay between the eye/brain/eye would have made hand/eye coordination very difficult at high speed functions

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and, I believe that our, uh, education like such as in, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq and everywhere like such as... and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, and should help Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children."

Some hiccups for sure. Then she recovered.

Watched the Boxer Fiorina debate--both ladies did very well.

Carly had one mistake--confusing Prop 23 and calling it Prop 32.

But both candidates went after the other with facts and kept hammering each other until the end.

Boxer is calling for another debate.

That must mean the internal numbers were not good for her.

Boxer is ahead 44-43 over Fiorina.

But there are only a few politicians I'd sideline in favor of Jan Brewer. She's an embarrassment to this nation's burgeoning dolt population.

I assume that is based on some facts. I know you love facts so much.

I believe she filed suit back in May suing Obama care.

Which she is probably accepting funds from now like most all the other hypocritical Rethug governors and DAs.

Yup I thought so....

thinkprogress.org

Yesterday, the Department of Health and Human Services announced that 45 states and the District of Columbia "will receive $1 million in grant funds to help improve the review of proposed health insurance premium increases, take action against insurers seeking unreasonable rate hikes, and ensure consumers receive value for their premium dollars." The $46 million are part of the $250 million in rate review grant dollars authorized by the new health care law. Indeed, interest is so high that states that oppose the health law applied for grants. As the Wonk Room points out, 19 of the 22 states that are suing the federal government over the constitutionality of the health care law will receive $1 million each to improve their rate review capabilities. Below is a sampling:

– ARIZONA: "The State intends to improve their filing review process by hiring an actuarial consultant to review 95% of submissions for compliance and make recommendations regarding whether filings are unjustified or excessive."

– VIRGINIA: "Virginia will expand the information required to be submitted with rate filings and will develop a procedures manual for the review of rate filings."

– FLORIDA: "The State will expand the scope to include large group and out-of-State products."

The Wonk Room argues that this disconnect highlights the growing divide between state health commissioners' implementation efforts and political rhetoric.

@Many

Yeah, #9 doesn't make any sense after RCADE merged the threads.

makes sense to me. ;-)

She will be reelected.

It's about the same distance as our hands and fingers are from our brain, and we manage O.K. (sometimes).

Brewer is a slam dunk. The UN report was the straw that totally broke the Democrats back here. They have two safe seats. Pastor and Grijalva, even though Grijalva is a treasonous bastard who called for a boycott of our state.
All Jan has to do is to demand Terry answer if he would have vetoed SB1070 and question if he'll vigorously enforce it.
We have more pressing problems here, but illegal immigration has trumped all.
All the protests with the Mexicans flags, Arizona flags with a swastika on it, trampling and defacing an American flag, have hardened a lot of opinions in this state.
Having gone down to the protests and seen the hyperbolic vitriol, i have little sympathy for their cause.

I thought that was painful to watch, then I watched Brewer in the post debate question and non-answer with the Press. Egads.

Some people produce results while sounding less than a great orator while others sound like a great orator but are freaking nuts. Me! I will go with results.

The how do you explain Bush? Neither an Orator nor Producer.

I know very little about Brewer - maybe she's an idiot. Maybe she just had a real bad day.

During a town hall Obama answered a simple question about the economy for 17 agonizing minutes. If one were to evaluate his intellect based soley upon his performance at that event, one would conclude that he was border-line retarded.

If you people are truly open-minded, you'd evaluate her based on the entirety of her governorship and public appearances. Anyone can cherry-pick and conclude that a public official is retarded based upon a poor public performance.

Brewer would go on to serve in the Arizona House of Representatives for three years, from 1983 to 1987, before deciding to run for the Arizona Senate, where she would serve from 1987 to 1996. As State Senator, Brewer sought legislation with the intention of creating an office of Lieutenant Governor in the state, arguing that holding the office of Secretary of State does not make a candidate qualified for Governor, and that the office should be filled by a member of the same party, should a vacancy arise.[2]

Jan Brewer-R was secretary of state and took over when Janet Napolitano-D resigned to join the Obama administration.

Having said that, she was doing a good job regulating our goofy state legislature and if it weren't for SB1070 most of you folks would have never heard of her.

She only agreed to one debate because it was required by law,she says she won't have another.

but she will win

For a post-debate confrontation between Brewer and reporters in which she cannot bring herself to admit her beheadings in the desert observations are a load of swill: "Brewer Speechless On Headless Bodies" with video tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com

But there are only a few politicians I'd sideline in favor of Jan Brewer. She's an embarrassment to this nation's burgeoning dolt population.

Actually, Snoops, that's an opinion (and quite clearly formulated as such) based on my observation of Brewer's behavior.

My guess is your problem with my statement is that I spoke of "this nation's burgeoining dolt population." On that, I gladly defer to you as both member and expert.

A fact is the videotape you rambled on about supposedly showing Kerry's behavior on 9/11 and claimed could be produced but just never quite managed to actually produce. Absent proff, that's what's known as a "factoid," as in spurious, unverified, incorect, or fabricated. You weren't voicing an opinion, but presenting your own hallucinatory version of reality -- based on nothing more than your fears and prejudices -- as "fact."

See the difference?

Probably not.

"Absent proff" = "Absent proof"

Not that that'll make any difference to Sniper.

Get rid of Brewer. We can't have politicians that don't use a tel-a-prompter and loose their place.

Not that that'll make any difference to dok.

"We can't have politicians that don't use a tel-a-prompter and loose their place."

Two videos cited, as far as I can see. One from a debate, where no candidate used a teleprompter. The next from an impronptu session with reporters, where there was no teleprompter.

Please tell me you "know" -- as only you "know" things, Snoops, i.e., don't really know but think if you say you do that'll fly -- Brewer never, ever uses a teleprompter.

www.azcentral.com

ROTFLMAO!

dok, WTF does your post 42 have to do with mine?

You are making the same arguement that I am. She doesn't use one so we can't possibly trust her. Damn dok. We are saying the same thing.

"We can't have politicians that don't use a tel-a-prompter and loose their place."

I assumed you were trying to be funny.

Brewer uses teleprompters and when she doesn't she's a major league disaster.

Silence is what some of us want from politicians. If she fumbles a debate topic or a word now and again, so be it.

When I first heard her speak on a national talk show, I felt that she was hedging her bets, before the vote. But since, she has stuck to the will of the people and legislature and has been launched into a scene like no other in recient memory. The Feds stomping on the state in such a mannor. If I were her I would be mad as hell. The costs of defending your state against the Feds? Come on.

She seems to be an honest person doing what is good and correct for her state and nation. What are Hilary and Holder doing? Supporting no borders and stomping on states rights! I'd be pissed!

Brewer uses teleprompters and when she doesn't she's a major league disaster.

#46 | Posted by Doc_Sarvis

Kind of like the little o.

...or the Dubya, who can't talk straight with or without a teleprompter?

She's a lot like Palin without the nauseating shrieking voice.

Uh, of course, looks are another issue.

Phew, she's scary looking!

Man, this has to be one of the worst train wrecks in history.
Had I seen it on West Wing, I'd have called it unrealistic.
But this actually happening is almost painful to watch.

Jeez, that's kinda like when Obama's teleprompter breaks down.

But seriously, so what. She had a brain fart, or a series of them. Remember Obama the ahole saying he's campaigned in all 52 states?

What Obama the ahole is doing to her, Joe Arpaio, and the state of Arizona is nothing more than treason. That is what is truly sickening.

I am not a fan or supporter of the stupid law or this lady, but I think she stroked off there for a few seconds. If that was me I'd consider a CAT Scan and soon. For her sake I hope that has crossed her mind...

She's too busy, still mourning the daddy Nazis bumped off in the 1950s.

What Obama the ahole is doing to her, Joe Arpaio, and the state of Arizona is nothing more than treason.

You sound like someone who has Butterfly McQueen as a nurse.

If you people are truly open-minded

when it comes to Brewer, no, i'm not "open-mined." perhaps once i was, not anymore.

God, she sounds uneducated.

Oh, wait...........

What Obama the ahole is doing to her, Joe Arpaio, and the state of Arizona is nothing more than treason.
#52 | Posted by LogicRules

I dont know about treason but WHEN GOP takes back congress...this is one area that I would support full scale looks into who and why is attacking this state

AND BEGIN with hillaries BULLSHIT piece of fuck report to the UN...

ALSO holder who is now sueing them because junior colleges have the NERVE to follow federal law on asking green card holders to produce them on registration...

Relative to debates in Arizona, as Brewer has refused to debate further, legislation is needed that all viable candidates for a top political office be required to participate in at least three debates. These debates might also be focused on specific issues.

People have a right to examine and see and know who and what they are getting in public office.

To do otherwise is to "behead" any notion of an informed citizenry. And no doubt that is just what some want.

God, she sounds uneducated.

Oh, wait...........

Thank you. I've taken up a new pasttime: Beach blogging thanks to broadband wireless.

RE-ELECTED?

This woman was never ELECTED to be Governor of Arizona. She was next in line after Napolitano went to Homeland Security.

Where do you come up with these zingers, donnieboy?

#61 | Posted by goatman

It's called rectal extraction.

Sounds like this woman is primed for a top spot in the administration.

Brewer's announced she's done with debating. See "BREWER: NO MORE DEBATES -- PERIOD" (azstarnet.com).

"She said the only reason she debated him on Wednesday is she had to to qualify for more than $1.7 million in public funds for her campaign."

Then she came up with a line that should resonate with anyone on the DR who's heard the "why do you have to talk about the past" refrain of the someone trying to foist a losing argument:

"All you guys were doing and talking were beheadings, beheadings, beheadings," the governor said. "That is something that has stuck with you all for so long, and I just felt we needed to move on."

Hey, Jan, you're the one who told the lie.

Would you prefer they ask about the circumstances surrounding your dad's death at the hands of the Nazis more than a decade after the end of World War II?

Jan Brewer was an atrocity when she signed SB1070 and is an atrocity today. But the true disaster for democracy, the factor that makes one think that there must be more reasonable systems of governance, is that she is STILL favored. The state of Goldwater and McCain isn't concerned over much other than the R after your name. herm

Alice Cooper for Governor.
