Eric W. Deaton, a Constitution Party candidate for U.S. Senate, was indicted Tuesday, Aug. 31, for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to Greg Flannagan, spokesman for Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias H. Heck Jr.

Deaton, 42, of New Lebanon is to be arraigned Sept. 14 in county common pleas court on the third-degree felony count. The indictment alleges that between March 20, 2006, and March 25, 2007, Deaton engaged in sexual conduct with a girl who was between the ages of 13 and 15, Flannagan said.
Deaton said he has Tea Party backing. His website lists endorsements from Liberty Candidates, Mansfield Tea Party and Akron Tea Party, along with a national group called Vote Family Values.

Deaton said he has...Vote Family Values.

Oops.

I liked the part about ""Return moral citizens to office."

LOL

Deaton is toast. Even for Ohio.

However, that "Vote Family Values" is right up Sarah Palin's alley.

Since he says he's going to stay in the race, (don't they ALL say that?) Palin might even show up to stump for him.

Also, since he's going to act as his own attorney, (a fool for a client, etc.) I wonder if that means he'll be charging his legal expenses off on his campaign funds.

TWIN... You're obviously mistaken. Deaton was merely performing political outreach. We should praise him for reaching out to all the people... not simply the ones old enough to vote for him.

OOHRAH

You forgot to put /snark at the end of your post.

At least, I hope that's the case. For the sake of our blogging relationship, please tell me it is.

Oh, yes... snark

I was so over-the-top I thought I could get away with it like I so often try to do.

How does someone think they can get away with stuff like that while involved in a political campaign??? This guy has screws loose in his head, hope he enjoys prison. I have 14 year old granddaughter, I can't even think about what I would do to some creep like this if he touched her. I know one thing though, he'd be safer in prison.

I don't believe it!

This guy is running as a Republican and they say it was an underage GIRL?

Sounds like they have a top-notch detective group. It only took 3-1/2 years to charge him?

I know. Jury'll never buy that.

We should praise him for reaching out to all the people... not simply the ones old enough to vote for him.

And we should applaud his unconventional approach to campaigning... most people don't reach out to others with their penises.

This is a fun game R-Bot.

And they say they're not Republicans.

What more proof do you need?

Sounds serious--how is it that they took 3 years to finally bring charges?

This stinks a bit of dirty tricks.

Did they hold the press conference after meeting with the attorneys??

Oh--it gets worse--there is an audio tape---

Deaton, is a Constitution Party candidate who on Tuesday said the indictment was politically motivated. During a news conference at the law offices of Rion and Rion on Wednesday , Deaton said he is fortunate to live in a country where he can defend himself against the charge. He intends to remain in the Senate race.

Perry Twp. Police investigated the allegations and Chief Bob Bowman said evidence includes an audio tape of Deaton admitting to the girl that he had sexual contact with her, and receipts from multiple visits to a Moraine motel. The girl is now an adult.

Police learned of the allegations in October from the Rev. Phil Reynolds, pastor of Bear Creek Church of the Brethren.

Deaton was a church elder and had mentored the girl, then 15 and also a church member. Deaton allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl on multiple occasions in Perry Twp. and in Moraine, Bowman said.

"The young woman came to me and told me the story. I'm a mandatory reporter. Our denomination has some very strict guidelines about protecting children," Reynolds said.

Reynolds said Deaton resigned as an elder on the church board at the end of 2009 to run for the U.S. Senate . Since Deaton did not have direct responsibility for children when he was on the board he was not asked to resign after the allegations were made, Reynolds said.

Attorney Jon Paul Rion said Deaton passed a lie detector test administered through the law office. "That shows these allegations are not true," Rion said.

Rion said the evidence that authorities have collected will be used to prove Deaton's innocence. Rion said the timing of the indictment so close to the election is "suspicious."

Deaton will be arraigned in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 14 and the trial is unlikely to occur before the Nov. 2 election, Rion said.

Bowman said collecting evidence in the investigation took time and there was no political motivation involved. Deaton is running for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio. The other candidates are: Democrat Lee Fisher, Republican Rob Portman, Socialist Daniel H. LaBotz, independent Michael Pryce and write-in candidate Arthur T. Sullivan .

Politics. Politics. Politics.

Trashing the opp's character is pretty much the norm during political season.

Laundering, tax evasion, drugs, corruption...it's all fair game.

If it's true ( and I have NO idea if it is or not, but suspect not) then he needs to be dealt with.

^^ and that right there is the definition of the "court of public opinion".

No facts, no proof, just "guilty and he needs to hang" becuase it was read it online or heard on the news.

And we let it go time and time again.

Sad fucking situation.

Loh

Sorry, kinda thought I'd backed and hit post thinking preview....

Anyway, if he did it, he needs to be in jail, but my point is that just because it was said on the news, and especially when it's election time, it's stupid to take this shit at face value.
