Of all of the "traditions" our guys have to cope with when dealing with the Afghans this is the hardest to overlook. By order we had to sometimes share our shower facilities with whatever ANA unit we were operating with; since Friday was the day of prayer Thursday afternoon/evening the showers were of limits for us (self imposed, no matter how grungy you were) and given over exclusively to our "compadres", allowing the local custom of "man-love-thursday". The commanders would get cleaned up and run of to "town" to hook up with their boyz and the rank and file would just make do with each other.

Since cooperation and assimilation was required to complete the mission, ya just have to let it slide. But don't think it wasn't an issue, and don't think the local cleanup crew didn't spend some extra time on Friday morning...
