Former British prime minister Tony Blair writes in his memoirs that he was "desperately sorry" over the deaths in the Iraq war. Blair said he is "sorry for the lives cut short", but maintains it was right to remove dictator Saddam Hussein from power, in extracts from A Journey, his account of a decade in office. Blair said the aftermath of the 2003 invasion was "terrible" and said he wept over the loss of life.

Blair said he was "sorry for the lives cut short"

Only British lives, of course.

Blair 'Desperately Sorry' About Iraq War

how typically National Inquireresque of you Rogers

sorry about deaths and sorry about the incident is not the same.

i would expect him and all other leaders with a conscience, not as many as their should be, to be sorry about the deaths regardless on their stance on the war.

That seems to be a piss poor title. Pretty misleading. Other than that, the lost life is very sad.

Fuck Blair. He gave a legitimacy to Cheney & The Chimp that they needed and that they would never have been able to get on their own.

Blair gave Cheney and Obama legitimacy???

Nope. www.google.com

Getting rid of Saddam was the right thing to to... blah blah blah.... because he was mean to Iraqi people... as if 47,000 sorties in 3 weeks constitutes nice... destroying an infrastructure is well meaning...

so how does one go all over the world to rid every nation of cruel dictators without becoming one?

There are no guarantees that getting rid of Saddam didn't just pave the way for one far worse.

This is nothing compared to judgment day a'coming.

"and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness."

It's going to get rough, if you don't repent and admit what you did wrong publicly and ask forgiveness.

There are no guarantees that getting rid of Saddam didn't just pave the way for one far worse.

agreed....and a lesson we have learned (you would think) after previous experiences in ME countries.

No shit, Ebs. If I were cynical, I would almost think that the purpose of the war was profiteering, not getting rid of Saddam.

Only British lives, of course.

Just like you care about American/British lives being lost in Afghanistan.

He's just sorry he didn't get a victory parade like Maggie did.

ust like you care about American/British lives being lost in Afghanistan.

You are right... I don't care.

But then, they are not civilian lives... they went there on their own.

And two, I'm not the Prime Minister of a country.

many murderers are desperately sorry, but they are going to face the judge anyway.

"Sorry," hell; you're only sorry you got caught lying about WMD and the whole sorry excuse for invading Iraq, Blair.

I have a hard time visualizing any President or Prime Minister or King spending much time "weeping" over anything.

Unless it's a lost battle with a tape recorder, or a killer rabbit, or a blue dress, or a pretzel.

Let's see how good I am with recent American history....

lost battle with a tape recorder

Posts are not appearing .... being cut off....

Of course Blair lent ligitimacy to Bush's case for going to war.

Remember those famous 16 words in Bush's 2003 State of the Union . . .

"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

He didn't say 'The CIA had learned' did he?

Hell no. Bush needed Blair to boost his case and Blair happily complied. The documents were forgeries, of course, so one has to wonder why the much exhaulted British Intelligence didn't figure that out before passing them on to George Bush.

There's a very simple answer to that question. Both of them already knew it.

Both of these men, Bush and Blair, were counting their petro dollars long before the invasion.

And, of course, there was the Downing Street memo. Blair didn't pay much attention to that either. did he?

When it comes to slime, Blair runs neck and neck with George Bush.

one has to wonder why the much exhaulted British Intelligence didn't figure that out

James Bond was on a movie shoot and too busy to be disturbed.
