Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A traffic jam stretching more than 60 miles in China has entered its ninth day with no end in sight, state media reported. Cars and trucks have been slowed to a crawl since August 14 on the National Expressway 110, which is also known as the G110, the major route from Beijing to Zhangjiakou. Officials expect the congestion to continue until September 13.

Of course, once the jam is cleared it'll just be jammed again in a couple hours...

Approximately 400 police officers are patrolling the road 24 hours a day in an effort to keep the situation calm, Sky News said.

Correlation vs Causation?

So how long does it take to go the 60 miles?

I was in a traffic jam that took over 24 hours to go less than 20 miles. Right before we hit it I saw two cop cars and a meatwagon screaming down the Interstate the wrong way, the same direction as us. A few seconds went by as I contemplated the reason for such a thing, when it hit me I told the guy driving to pull off at the next exit and find a backroad. He refused, "we're almost there it can't be that bad". We're not friends anymore.

I heard that it could be seen from space...

OMGosh!! I thought Milwaukee was bad!

Here in NJ, my commuting time has been decreasing over the past two years.

In Seattle the snow fell and traffic on the freeway came to a stop.

It took folks 9 to 12 hours to get home.

We got off the freeway and took the side streets to the West Seattle Bridge --there were 40 cars abandoned on the bridge.

Hubby barely made it with the Lincoln and I had no problem with a front wheel drive Taurus.

And of course the next day--the city was closed.

They only have like 3 snow plows for the entire city.

Welcome to the Capitalist Economic model, CHINA!

Just shoot me.
Some people have an utter inability to cope with rats, or heights or spiders or the inner city. My problem is traffic congestion. I got stuck on I-74 recently in Indiana for about an hour recently, in 95-degree heat, and I thought I was going to lose my mind.

One of the many wonderful side effects of unfettered >10% GDP growth.

I can honestly say I've never seen a traffic jam.

I'd have to go Michael Douglas in "Falling Down".

Read about this the other day. What do you expect? Pack a massive road full of say 70% drivers with the experience of you average 17 year old, add in "cone zones", I am sure no exits that go anywhere in between the major cities, in a country where everyone drives like it is a 3rd world country anyhow and this is what you get.

I hear about that, personally I use my head and fly, take the train or don't go. But then again the media probably can not report on it...

Remember when "Rush Hour" actually lasted lasted one hour?

As China replaces the US as the manufacturing center of the Universe more and more Chinese will prosper to the point of being able to afford a new vehicle and thus these traffic jams will only get worse.

Be Well.

I heard on NPR a few minutes ago India is expected to have 750,000,000 cars in 10 years, beating the U.S. and China, who will be in 2nd place.

It's Obama's fault.

The Great Wall of China, The Sequel

i could walk 60 miles faster that 29 days.

I was looking for info about the traffic on the A9 after the Berlin Wall came down, it was horrific, but I didn't see any good english language webpages with pics.

However, I did find this, which I think some of you kooks might enjoy:

Lol...

here, in case you don't want to click:

(Reuters) - A German student created a major traffic jam in Bavaria after making a rude gesture at a group of Hell's Angels motorcycle gang members, hurling a puppy at them and then escaping on a stolen bulldozer.

German police said on Monday that after making his getaway from the Hell's Angels club, the 26-year-old dumped the bulldozer, causing a 5 km (3 miles) traffic jam near the southern town of Allershausen, local police said. He then fled to his home nearby where he was apprehended by the police.

"What motivated him to throw a puppy at the Hell's Angels is currently unclear," said a spokesman for local police, adding that the student had lately been suffering from depression.

The puppy was now in safe hands, the spokesman added.

A nine DAY traffic jam. Unbelievable. Don't the Chinese believe in off-ramps?

I was in a traffic jam once on the Grapevine when a truck had been rear-ended and exploded. Three lanes of traffic came to a dead stop for about 4 hours until the debris could be cleared off and the traffic cleared. But 9 days for the same traffic jam? Unreal.

I heard that it could be seen from space...

Maybe so...
Can Sarah! see it from her porch?

Wow stuck in a car for 9 days? That gives Porta-potty much added importance.
