Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The recent ecological history of the Gulf of Mexico gives scientists reason for hope that it can fully recover from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Natural processes that break up, evaporate and dissolve oil have taken care of 84 million gallons of spilled oil, more than twice the amount human efforts removed. "I think the system may bounce back sooner than expected," said Brian Crother, a Southeastern Louisiana University wetlands biologist.

They are a little late in their prediction as Limbaugh basically said the same thing back in the month of May. Oh well, better late than never - lol

These fellas are looking at scientific data.

Rush was just talking out of his ass.

"Rush was just talking out of his ass."

That's all he ever does.

Unfortunately the United States is mostly populated with morons (we didn't have WWI and WWII to kill all the idiots) who have made him a rich man on his fourth marriage.

She'll cash in soon.

When I met my wife in '69 I thought, "Stevie Nicks can get in line."

She was living with a pretty boy who still does TV news in California, so I made babies with my best buddy.

The babies are well educated, rich, competent.

And they're mine.

That's why the saying "Rush is Right" came about.

What about the Corexit?

I have no doubt it can recover from the oil.

What about the oil AND Corexit?

It recovered from a hit by an asteroid about the size of NY just a few eons ago....

Two points. If rich morons made Rush rich...

who made ZATs babies rich?

Also, you made babies with your best buddy? You're saying pretty boy helped you guys out with that?

Are you drunk this morning ZAT?

"who made ZATs babies rich?"

I did.

Who made you stupid?

Did you grant them exemptions from extinction as well? After all, it's really hard to waste BP oil on those ridiculous endeavors when one is extinct.

"I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's probably the largest spill there has ever been... and yet there's hardly any oil. The ecosystem around here is also used to oil. It's been here forever, and there are more than 4,000 oil wells in the Gulf. So there are spills and natural seepage all the time, and the fish and plants adapt to deal with them. I'm confident the area will make a full recovery..."

Who knew? I wonder if ole' mother earth is equipped to deal with man-made CO2 in the same way?

Bite my bait. You deserve it.

Yep, just like the hockeystick math used by jaded scientists.

Does anyone remember what happened in Iraq during the first gulf war? Does anyone remember how much oil was spilled bu that dick tater when he saw he was loosing the war?

I believe he set them on fire, not dumped them into the ocean.

What do they know, they're only scientists

Very cool before and after pictures of shrinking glaciers. Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out...

...apparently the earth does it too.

The earth will be growing colder over the coming centuries. Not warmer.

These glaciers strongly support my argument too. They are at the end of their eons long growth-retreat cycle. Their next major phase will be regrowth due to a colder planet in the coming years.

Unless you're a climate-change-is-my-religion zealot like ZAT and you have faith that once the glaciers are gone, that, unlike Christ, they will never return.

The earth will fry itself up nice and crispy instead. I'm keeping my winter clothing just in case.

There were a bunch in the gulf that dumped into the ocean. I guess you are too young to remember.

Saddam Hussein's destruction of Kuwaiti oil facilities during the Gulf War dumped more than 500 million barrels of crude into the Arabian Gulf. The 1979 blowout of Mexico's Ixtoc 1 well resulted in 3.3 million barrels being dumped into the Gulf of Mexico.

Come on kan. Speak up. Tell me about the fires and nothing in the water.

Can we recover the lost fishing season and tourist season of 2010?

I can't believe a little fact I posted killed this stoopid story line.

Crabs provide evidence oil tainting Gulf food web

BARATARIA, La. (AP) -- To assess how heavy a blow the BP oil spill has dealt the Gulf of Mexico, researchers are closely watching a staple of the seafood industry and primary indicator of the ecosystem's health: the blue crab.

Weeks ago, before engineers pumped in mud and cement to plug the gusher, scientists began finding specks of oil in crab larvae plucked from waters across the Gulf coast.

The government said last week that three-quarters of the spilled oil has been removed or naturally dissipated from the water. But the crab larvae discovery was an ominous sign that crude had already infiltrated the Gulf's vast food web -- and could affect it for years to come.

"It would suggest the oil has reached a position where it can start moving up the food chain instead of just hanging in the water," said Bob Thomas, a biologist at Loyola University in New Orleans. "Something likely will eat those oiled larvae ... and then that animal will be eaten by something bigger and so on."

Tiny creatures might take in such low amounts of oil that they could survive, Thomas said. But those at the top of the chain, such as dolphins and tuna, could get fatal "megadoses."

Marine biologists routinely gather shellfish for study. Since the spill began, many of the crab larvae collected have had the distinctive orange oil droplets, said Harriet Perry, a biologist with the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.

"In my 42 years of studying crabs I've never seen this," Perry said.
