"Islamabad airport's location is not an easy destination to fly into," Hashim Raza Gardezi, a former colleague of Pervez Iqbal Chaudhry who piloted the doomed Airbus A-321, told AFP.

The craggy Margalla Hills to the north of the capital and unpredictable wind patterns can make an approach extremely difficult he said, going so far as to describe Islamabad as "one of the worst weather conditions in the world".

"Irregular wind systems surround the Margalla Hills often make it difficult for the pilots while in the air," Gardezi, a pilot for state Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), said.

Plus with heavy monsoon rains at the time.

My sympathies to your people Tosser ... hope it was an accident and not on purpose.

As a Commercial (that's the license, I've only flown skydivers for pay, long ago) Pilot of 43 years with single, multi-engine and instrument ratings and about 500 hours solo multi in the clag, I can only say that flight in such conditions is remarkably safe.

I just hope it wasn't a Cali Colombia style fuck up.
Co-pilots last words, "Where are we?"

Pakistan has an airport? Were people sitting on the outside of the plane?

ZAT

Did you see the 60 Minutes segment on the two Blackwater contract pilots goofing off in Afghanistan who flew into a mountain in broad daylight with clear conditions?

Killed soldiers and pilots alike.

Even when the co-pilot told the pilot he had only a few seconds to turn around the pilot didn't.

Tragic.

Did the pilot's goat bump the joystick?

Classy, Lee, real classy.

"Even when the co-pilot told the pilot he had only a few seconds to turn around the pilot didn't."

Amateurs.
Why didn't the co-pilot take the controls?
That's why he's there, supposedly.

I hate flying with anyone else.

A good friend has 10,000 hours in U-2s; Sweet.

I like that video of the reporter taking a spin in a U-2.

LOL!

Thank you... and of course it was an accident. It can't be anything else.

Yes yes Dinosaur.. we all know you have flown plane, train, automobile and spaceship all at the same time with one hand tied behind your back.

However, you never flew an Airbus. It's the only kind of plane in which the computers will over-ride the pilot and take over the aircraft and fly it out of harm's way. The pilot has no option but to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Why did this crash happen? The black-box will show why. Until then, please stop pretending as if you were in the cockpit.

"...Airbus. It's the only kind of plane in which the computers will over-ride the pilot and take over the aircraft and fly it out of harm's way."

So Air France 447 landed safely in Paris then?

So Air France 447 landed safely in Paris then?

You know it didn't.

Big difference from the middle of the ocean and airport within sight.

I don't think most people... including the designers of these toy Airbus aircraft.... realize just how hard and disruptive monsoons can be.

From what witnesses say, the engines simply didn't have enough power to clear the hills in monsoon weather. As it is, an A-321 is a toy.

And it seems something was terribly wrong with this flight.... the plane had been warned away earlier from restricted airspace... it was way off-course, flying all over the radar.

According to an expert, AirBlue (a "budget" airline) pilots don't get enough sleep. And the co-pilot was a rookie...probably his first time landing at Islamabad, one of the most difficult landings in the world, that too in monsoon season.

"Except 12, all bodies recovered from the site of the crash are mutilated or burnt so badly that they are difficult to identify," he said.

The process of DNA tests of all passengers and crew members has begun and findings would be matched with family members in a week.

You know it didn't.

Of course I do... probably a bad example, I'll try again.

Why did Captain Sullenberger get so much credit for sitting back and watching his Airbus land itself in the river?

www.drudge.com

And Messiah couldn't wait to open his mouth....

"The American people stand with the people of Pakistan in this moment of tragedy."

What a bastard.

Why did Captain Sullenberger get so much credit for sitting back

He wasn't "sitting back" and he did the near impossible.

Why are you acting so stupid and confused?

Even Capt. Sully realizes he had an exceptional day.

And Messiah couldn't wait to open his mouth....

I don't suppose I understand your visceral hatred of the President of the United States, though you seem to have some fans here on this blog.

I mean, when you have lost your engines, what the hell are the plane's computers going to do for you? LOL

Every machine has it's limits and every crash is different.

Idiot.

Post 26 is for post 21 by Redial.

What was your opinion of George W. Bush, Tosser?

Did you like him better?

Hey everyone.... I just had a dream!

In this dream I heard Boyd calling out to me but I couldn't tell where he was calling from or what he was trying to say!

But I am awake now, thank God.

Very disturbing dream it was!

Spill the wine get that girl

Allow me an attempt to interpret that dream for you, Tosser.

You never say anything bad about Bush, and you rag on Obama in the harshest terms. It seems clear that you, an elite in Pakistan, our very bestest ally!, liked Bush but have SERIOUS problems with Obama.

Says much for your friends on this blog as well, I suppose.

Maybe it's this that endeared you to Bush, Tosser:

Obama not putting up with that shit as much?

Spill the wine get that girl

What girl? There is a girl I can get? Where?

He wasn't "sitting back" and he did the near impossible.

Mostly because you posted this in response to Zatoichi:

"However, you never flew an Airbus. It's the only kind of plane in which the computers will over-ride the pilot and take over the aircraft and fly it out of harm's way. The pilot has no option but to sit back and enjoy the ride."

I was confused by my assumption you knew what you were talking about.

My bad.

I was confused

WAS confused?

You are STILL confused.

Try and stick to things you can understand... like picking boogers out of your nose. LOL

Under NORMAL circumstances, the Airbus (any Airbus) will stop the pilot from going into a stall, for example.

But, as we have seen, there are many circumstances which are not normal. Minor accidents pile up and give you a "perfect storm" situation.

What is there so hard to understand, stupido?

Oh... I get it... you are eager to "score points", without even understanding the topic? LOL

www.bbc.co.uk

It could be a combination of many things. But from the reports I have seen, the weather could be the villain of the piece. If you've ever been in monsoon rain, you know how serious it is.

Monsoons are not your average drizzlings.

What girl? There is a girl I can get? Where?

YOU? No... but there are some young camels and donkeys available to your kind.

but there are some young camels and donkeys available to your kind.

Wrong. ISI has shipped them off to Afghanistan for YOUR kind. See Wikileaks. LOL

"Under NORMAL circumstances, the Airbus (any Airbus) will stop the pilot from going into a stall, for example."

Bit of a difference between that and "over-ride the pilot and take over the aircraft and fly it out of harm's way", wouldn't you say? LOL

Bit of a difference between that and "over-ride the pilot and take over the aircraft and fly it out of harm's way"

It's autopilot is amazing and in many situations that is exactly what it can do. It can fly around hills without the pilot doing anything except having set his destination into the computer.

But under certain circumstances, the systems fail.

That is where the investigation starts..... how did something so sophisticated fail? What the hell did the pilot do? Was it human error? Was the pilot "fighting" against the computer? That too can happen.... Air India crashed an Airbus because the pilots were not used to the system and tried fighting against it, crashing the plane, the investigation later revealed.

The point is, and Airbus has many different reasons and whole new problems than a Boeing when it comes to crashes. The plane is built using a different design philosophy.

Having said that, I have flown plenty of times in 747s and in A320s and A321s..... and I didn't like the Airbus one bit.

If you have flown in either aircraft, you will know what I'm talking about.

The Airbus feels "fragile". The aircraft makes more noises, with the engines revving up and down as if thirsting for more power but not getting any and many other creaking noises in the cabin (even when brand new).

If given a choice, I would never travel in an Airbus.

Best aircraft to fly in? 777 of course. The best ride ever.

"If you have flown in either aircraft, you will know what I'm talking about."

I mostly fly in 737s since I do short hops and can't stand those little CRJs that are usually the other choice. Flew a couple of United 777s to Vegas. Airbus 320s to Toronto mostly.

On commercial flights I'm usually more concerned about the disgusting lardass in the next seat slowly oozing into mine than the plane itself.
