Exactly what he said. If the pace of environmental change is greater than the rate at which the lizard population can evolve, the lizards go extinct. How fast the lizards evolve depends on a lot of factors, none of which deal with anything remotely Lamarckian.

I'm talking about things like the size and genetic diversity of the population, generation time, lifespan, death rate, brood size, mutation rate, the effects of mutation on the specific genes that would be involved in adaptation, the strength of selection from environmental change, etc.

I have been saying for decades now that the problem with global warming is not the change in temperature, it's the speed of the change that is the problem. Vern needs to read a book on evolution. Evolutionary adaption takes hundreds or thousand of generations to progress. It's done by the process of the survival of the fittest. The new off springs that can tolerate the changes survive and pass on those specific genes as long as the change takes place over multiple generations. When change happens in a generation or two, evolution just can't work. That is why we have a mass extinction going on right now.

I'll bet vern will deny that too. These are the kinds of statements that make me avoid any mention of science around a republican.

Things have changed a little since the gay 90's, even in science.

Two of the biggest pieces of evidence that Global Climate Change is happening are first, the mass extinctions going on atm and second, the migration of animal species away from their traditional habitats towards other, more climate friendly, lands.

One would have to be an absolute idiot to look at those two factors and not see something happening.
