Well, Skippy,
Frankly, your gender and sexual orientation is irrelevant to this discussion. As a heterosexual non transgendered male with lesbian tendencies, my opinion is ... (see, it really is a deflection or in worse case "an overshare.") It must be difficult to identify yourself through your gender and preferences before you get to things like "American" or "poet" or "bean counter." I wish you well on your journey to expand yourself and your self definition.
----
And to try to outlaw someone's speech because you don't like it is, well, extremely hypocritical on your part.
Unless you'd rather not know what other people are thinking and force them into an underground movement That becomes even more dangerous.
----
We Libertarians of the "old school" really are stating that our preference is for a small government. Sort of what the Constitution has laid out originally, but is now so bloated. And for personal responsibility, not governmental nannyism.
But hey, the "Liberal" "Progressive" "Left" "Whateverthefuck" group today is all about governmental pacifiers. They'd rather see each of us not succeed too much. And frankly, are self-righteous pseudo-intellectuals with delusions of omnipotence. (Little words: They think they are smarter than you and know what is best for you, poor ignorant savage.)
So "Liberal" and "Libertarian" really don't intersect. Libertarians don't mind if you use salt when you cook but some Liberals feel that it is their duty to ban salt from cooking. (See www.allbusiness.com )
Nor does "Conservative" and "Libertarian" truly intersect, given the number of individual limits they want to establish. For example, gambling, drinking, spitting on the sidewalks, porn and even a "belief in 'God'."
So yes, the GENERAL (there are many types of Libertarians) Libertarian is for personal responsibility and small governmental involvement in a citizen's life. A government that will protect the Nation, provide a way to settle disputes impartially and few other tasks. The goal being to protect the individual, not the government nor society. Protect civility.
So, to make it a simplistic model, inherent with errors, you choose:
"Liberal" if you want control on your ability to succeed past a certain point and say things that might offend someone.
"Conservative" if you want "moral control" then you would select "Conservative."
"Libertarian" if you want to just be left the fuck alone except in rare and well defined instances.
