House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) requesting that the final health care votes be recorded by "call of the roll" so that every lawmaker is required to publicly announce their vote on the House floor.

This is gonna get interesting. The teabaggers are fixing to wake up to a rude awakening. The american people (demos, repubs and liberts) want some form of health care reform and insurance reform.

As soon as this thing passes, one way or the other, the tea-baggers see that the world didn't come to an end, and grandma is still alive, they'll go along and find something else to be afraid of.

And those folks that voted with the insurance companies (republicans) are going to get slammed come election day.

If the President doesn't leave these hesitant votes hanging in the breeze come election time, he'll have done a good thing for the Democratic majority and I think it will be paid back to him in 2012. If he's wishy washy about that kind of stuff, he's going to have problems.

folks that voted with the insurance companies (republicans) are going to get slammed come election day

For once, I agree with Orange John, but he should be careful what he wishes for.

dems arent about to go for this..all that BRIGHT LIGHT accountability and shit...
pelosi doesnt do it..but you know me. I dont make predictions.

It's gonna be close.

I'm not in favor of this particular bill, but if I were there, and it was time to make a stand, I would probably hold my nose and vote for it.

I'm not convinced and really have no way of knowing what the fuck is in the bill to begin with (even if I did take the time to read it). But, at least it has a small promise of attempting something something almost human-like.

I expect it will pass. I would guess that the few remaining moderate dems have had their balls in a vice for weeks, with Nancy and BO taking turns at them.

If this passes, then I believe the people calling out the vote will be the number 1 tv spot in Nov. And probably the number 1 campaign promise will be to either "fix" this bill or repeal it completely.

Every district, over and over and over... voting for this piece of shit. I would be less surprised if the repubs take both houses in Nov than I would if a single moderate is reelected.

I believe this bill is HORRIBLE for the country, and probably GREAT for the repub party.

Once this passes the American people will have months to get beyond the right wing propaganda and discover it's nothing like what the GOP noise machine have described. No 'government takeover' or anything of the sort.

This will come back to bite the GOP in the ass. They lost America's trust over Iraq. Once the public finds out they merely shifted gears to new propaganda like 'totalitarian takeover' and 'socialist' (read Communist) - with Glenn Beck using a Soviet hammer and sickle to emphasize that meme - the public will cast a wary eye on the GOP again, and deservedly so.

The Teabaggers despicable actions such as occurred this weekend will only serve to emphasize the disparity between rhetoric and reality. You don't think images of the Hitler signs, threats, angry faces, and false claims will come back to haunt the GOP who've made bedfellows of them - repeating the same outlandish and dishonest hyperbole? I think you'd better guess again. This ain't your founding father's Tea Party.

Once again like clockwork, AU doesn't have an ounce of temerity to write a retort which is actually applicable to the thread. God only knows how bringing up Iraq, Teabaggers, Beck etc has anything to do with asking for an up or down vote. Are you really that afraid of the request to make their votes public?

"Once this passes the American people will have months to get beyond the right wing propaganda and discover it's nothing like what the GOP noise machine have described."

Since the taxes begin immediately and the benefits don't kick in until 2014, how do you figure all that?

"This will come back to bite the GOP in the ass."

It already has...recent elections in VA, NJ, and MA prove it! So do the current polls in NE, NV, PA, CO, and others. Republicans are really suffering all over it seems.

"Fifty percent (50%) of U.S. voters say they are less likely to vote for their representative in Congress this November if he or she votes for the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken Wednesday night finds that 34% are more likely to vote for their Congress member's reelection if he or she supports the president's health care plan."

And....

"The new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% would vote for their district's Republican congressional candidate while 35% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent. Voter support for GOP congressional candidates increased slightly from last week, while support for Democrats fell two points."

And...just in case you're gonna reply with your standard "outlier" description of Rasmussen, you might wanna read THIS and then read the washington Post articly about how all the other polls lagged Rasmussen.

"But while Rasmussen Reports was picking up the trend 14 days before the election, The Washington Post says some traditional outlets didn't report on the possibility of an upset until just two days before the election. Part of the reason is that many of the old media outlets were relying on a Boston Globe survey showing Coakley ahead by 17 points."

My assessment is that you are just naive, ignorant or stupid....maybe all the above. It's probably because you're full of shit too. I bet you have a turd in every pocket.

It's gonna pass by a lot more than one vote too.

huh? maybe one or two so they can reduce the "importance of" or "harm done to" the guy casting that final tie-break vote . . . but it's clear that - -

Dem leadership had to make EXPENSIVE promises to secure that magic #216 from congressmen are very likely to lose their seats in November

so you're sayin' they are willing to sacrifice additional seats for no reason at all

Oh, ya? Like what the GOP refer to as "The Louisiana Purchase" (don't the GOP use catchy phrases *sarcasm*). That applies to any state that goes through a natural disaster. Yet another mischaracterization brought to you courtesy of the GOP. Sad, that.

Katrina was 5 years ago. Katrina damaged Mississippi too, more comprehensively. Is there a Mississippi Purchase? How about for Florida? They had Hurricane Ivan, and three other hurricanes since Katrina. So has Texas.

It's called LA Purchase because they needed it to get Landrieu's vote. Cornhusker Kickback because of Nelson. Obama got a couple more my promising to turn the water spigots on in the desert.

And there will be a lot, lot more, as news reports drip out over which Dem legislators got bribed to hold out.

I clearly typed 'That applies to any state that goes through a natural disaster.'

Reading glasses?

3/21, Pelosi: "Steny, we have to get to 217. None of these members wants to be the deciding vote"

Awesome, RiR finally figures out how politics works. Now if he could just remember what he ate for breakfast I might not suggest he still has Alzheimers.

But it doesn't apply. There is no Medicaid exemption for Florida, Texas, or Mississippi. And if you're going to be running around giving exemptions for all the states that have tornadoes or fires or tropical storms, suddenly the program's cost blows up.

It's a shell game anyway. The Dumbos don't really expect anyone to believe they'll be voting for $500,000,000,000 in Medicare cuts when the time comes. They're lying.

So Boehner agrees with Obama now. Too funny. We've gone from reconciliation being the "demon" pass to "deem and pass" being the great satan, back to an up and down vote on two bills.

I believe I alluded to this a few days ago when the righties were screaming about "deem and pass" being no vote at all (which was bullshit, too).

The legs have been cut out from the GOP's argument, and there's no where to run. Good for Boehner finally reestablishing a link, however tenuous, to reality.

I have found this entire episode quite interesting. As support for the bill grew, the GOP realized they couldn't fight the bill on the merits. How do you fight against each provision, which individually, is very popular? So they shifted the argument to "process" as was so blatantly obvious in the Fox "News" interview with Obama. Can't let any facts get in the way about how this bill will help Americans.

Now the process arguments are dead. The allegations of the cornhusker kickbacks and the LA purchase are dead. The GOP is left with nothing but "NO!" to the American people.

I can't wait for the "I'm for repeal" campaign to start.

That'll be tomorrow. You won't have to wait long.

I can't wait for the conservatives who will run on a promise to de-fund it. 160 new boards and medical panels, $500 billion in tax hikes, to be supposedly offset by $500 billion in cuts to Medicare--which we all know won't happen.

Starve it of funds, and Obamacare dies in the womb. Sorry. No money.

I believe they could have had an up or down vote anytime Pelosi wanted. How one can blame the minority party for the delay is rather laughable.

#22 - I'm not blaming anyone. I'm chuckling at the game of chess.

I could be wrong, but I believe it is for states which have "gone" through a natural disater, not "goes" through one.

As support for the bill grew . . .

I guess democratic Congressman Perriello is mischaracterizing it or AU as usual, is full of shit. That's a tough one.lol

“I will not support the ‘Cornhusker kickback' or the ‘Louisiana purchase,'” Perriello said, referring to the Senate bill's special provisions for Nebraska and Louisiana that won the votes of senators Ben Nelson, D-Neb., and Mary Landreau, D-La.

see how that works out for the repukes..defund medicare ..

He dems are the party of "I was for it before I was against it"

Can the Dems vote " present"?

This vote won't manke Obama any whiter. Then there's always FOCA, making America a muslim nation and repealing the second amendment. All legislation currently on the floor, accrding to the tea baggers.

It's an end to quality health care and an end to small business...

The country will be run by large corporations and unions.

You asked for it and you got it.

Suck it up! You created your own struggle.

What are you talking about?

I have a feeling that Pelosi and Reid and the rest of the idiot Democrats in Congress are just as out of touch with America as you are...

#14 Nutty
Bush (as sucky a POTUS as he was)/congress - delivered what? -- $15 - 20 billion to Louisiana after Katrina? God only knows how many tens of millions of that was stolen by the politicians.

But I think the "Louisiana Purchase" of which the GOP speaks is related to the buying off of M. Landrieu for an Obamacare YES vote. Of course, after the reconciliation errrr.. "work-around", it was less an imperative to make that bullshit payoff to her, so when the spotlight got hot, they canned it (I think. No one knows what the hell is in the bill anyway).

Oh yea - when Republicans have used that tactic (for infinitely less earth shaking bills) - it was termed the "Nuclear Option".

There are few "stand-up" politicians left anywhere, but anyone without the balls to show up and be counted on a vote this colossal should be tarred and feathered (IMO).

You're so full of shit.
Name one country that has nationalized medical and a lower life expectancy and higher infant mortality than the US. Oh that's... right you can't.

Name one country that has a socialized retirement system that has fewer small businesses than here. Dang you can't do that either. In fact I doubt that you will find a WalMart on every corner in those places let alone franchises. Lots of small businesses line the streets.

You right wingnut fucks and all your dooms day scenario about a country that takes care of its working class is baseless and you know it. You just love spouting shit and promoting causes that makes communism so attractive, In the end you wind up putting the nails in your own coffin. Its as if you just like talking shit to hear your complaints. You need to get out in the world more and stop listening to rightwing pitchmen like Limbaugh and Beck both of whom work for large corporations that have taken over smaller media outlets. The irony of it all and it is sitting right in front of you
