Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A receding hairline can be a good thing, according to US scientists, who say men who go bald by 30 appear to be less likely to develop prostate cancer. Researchers at the University of Washington School of Medicine studied 2,000 men aged between 40 and 47. They were able to link high levels of the male hormone testosterone in those who lose their hair earlier with a lower risk of tumors.

Dad went 3/4 bald, and he's doing chemo for colon cancer at 81 after having beat melanoma. I've got a little hair left and no problems except if I drink too much coffee.

FUCKKKKKK

i am never going to go bald

i have a full head of thick dense hair.

the ladies are jealous and i'm over 30.

i'm doomed!!!

"...men who go bald by 30 appear to be less likely to develop prostate cancer"

Didn't stop me from getting it. I think family history plays a bigger role than anything else. My father had it, my mom's father had it, my dad's brother had it...

it's a difficult choice, go bald or get cancer?

Seriously?

Finally i get to brag about going bald?

"yea, I'm going bald but I bet i don't get prstrate cancer!"

wow

First we get the news that they are finally going to pass health care reform and then this news too?

wow! what a weekend! Wahoo!

"prostate"

it is interesting how testosterone make the growth worse in older age, but they think it helps in younger years.

Yea, because guys who are bald get laid waaaay less!

If that were true I'd never get laid. I have to admit, the first time I heard "Vin Diesel" I went with it.

Now it's annoying as hell.

Seems counterintuitive to me since common therapy for prostatic cancer are female hormones (estrogens) and castration---done to decrease the level of testosterone.

Bald guys less likely to die of prostate cancer?

/Getting a real kick out of this thread!

/Telly died from Prostate cancer back in 1994.

Be Well.

/Yes, back ...and entering the Retort as always
stage left.

Uh, Mr.Dethspud..? Sir? Glad you're getting a kick out of this thread, but "Telly"? He shaved his head. He didn't come by the look naturally.
"Be well" hell.... be right.

"Telly"? He shaved his head.

Never sed he didn't.

It was a joke, son, lighten up.

Yeesh!

He also smoked like a farkin' chimney fer years and had a lot of cancer in his family.

Two facts which in Spud's opinion played a far larger roles in terms of risk factors than any tenuous bald/hairy thing.

Be Well.

Hair today, gone tomorrow.

I have to admit, the first time I heard "Vin Diesel" I went with it.

Now it's annoying as hell.

The first part you did not hear was "I wish I were with......"

Yeah, baby.

As a 24 and bald man, I love this news. I might live forever...

Seems counterintuitive to me since common therapy for prostatic cancer are female hormones (estrogens) and castration---done to decrease the level of testosterone.

The main cause of hair loss is a high amount of dihydrotestosterone within the hair follicle. DHT is produced from testosterone in the prostate. So while not being a medical doctor I would presume that dihydrotestoterone has some anti-cancer properties that other forms of testosterone do not have. Or maybe it being released from the prostrate helps prevent it. Maybe all us hairy guys trap all the dihydrotestosterone in our prostrates and thats what causes the cancer? I don't know just a couple of theories.

On second thought I'd forfeit 5-10 years of my life for a full head of hair. Maybe I can trick my insurance company into letting me get some Dimoxinil by claiming it keeps my brain from freezing.

It doesn't.

I also said "Or maybe it being released from the prostrate helps prevent it. "

Besides the truth is I have no clue. Doesn't much matter I'm not going bald any time soon it appears and I am past the magic 30 age.

Have a receding hair-line but still have my brown hair. Just answered the question since I used to work in the area and am knowledgeable about it. That's why in post #10 I mentioned it seemed counterintuitive to me.

I am a god! Bow before my testosterone!

Some heads were made perfectly...the others were covered with hair...

I have a thick head of hair and none on my back.

Probably because you're outside exercising all the time and not wasting your time sitting and posting on the "net".

I exercise an hour a day. Always been in tip top shape.

I can't help but add that being impotent may be good for a man's health also… it would definately cut down on the distractions and repercussions

I always heard it was better that it turned grey instead of turning loose!

Seriously I wish some of mine would fall out. Im +40 now and no thinning in sight, the shit is thick and cumbersome in the hot months.
