I always liked Fess Parker. I'm sure he made a better Danial Boone than Daniel Boone himself.

Number 3. Hollywood breaths a sigh of relief.

We stayed in his Double Tree hotell in Santa Barbra several years ago. Had not thought about him since then. At one time he was the best known frontiersman/Cowboy actor among America's kids.

We all sang the Davey Crockett theme till we wore it out. Had a coonskin hat right next to our Mickey Mouse ears on the dresser.

RIP Fess. we loved ya.

Davey, Davey Crockett, king of the wild frontier.

We never missed Disney in those days.

Impossible, because obviously he was doing something different than the real Daniel Boone if you thought he was better. Turns out he's dead now.

Don't wine about Fess Parker.

I owned a coonskin cap and would proudly wear it when I watched Davy Crockett on tv.

Yes, even little girls wore Davy Crocket hats. lol

Rest in peace, Fess Parker. You touched the childhood of an entire generation.

Chaos theory.

I'm really bummed about Fess Parker. Hadn't heard the news until I saw the headline here.

Harry Morgan. He's overdue.

"Peter Graves and now Fess Parker. Who's next?"

Hmmm, think this has something to do with the new spider man movie?

Peter Parker?

I smell turkey sandwiches.

Not imposible at all. The post meant that if Daniel Boone were alive, he wouldn't have been able to portray himself any better than Fess Parker. Fess Parker made Daniel Boone a hero to the 20th century. Without Fess Parker, few people would be aware of the name Daniel Boone.

You mean John DRAFT DODGER Wayne? Fess Parker joined the Marines in WWII. John Wayne was another chicken hawk, like most of the flag waving republicans who are brave with others blood.

BuffaloBob was absolutely correct. Fess Parker did make a "better Daniel Boone" -- in both physical appearance, stature, and mannerisms -- fitting much more into the ideal expected by the American public when they thought of a "frontier mountain man." I'm surprised you didn't get BuffaloBob's point -- unless you've never read any history books about the real-life Daniel Boone.

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia which essentially says the same thing BuffaloBob did --

Audiences of the "baby boomer" generation are more familiar with the Daniel Boone television series, which ran from 1964 to 1970. In the popular theme song for the series, Boone was described as a "big man" in a "coonskin cap", and the "rippin'est, roarin'est, fightin'est man the frontier ever knew!" This did not describe the real Daniel Boone, who was not a big man and did not wear a coonskin cap [he wore felt hats]. Boone was portrayed this way because Fess Parker, the tall actor who played Boone, was essentially reprising his role as Davy Crockett from an earlier TV series. That Boone could be portrayed as a Crockett, another American frontiersman with a very different persona, was another example of how Boone's image could be reshaped to suit popular tastes.

Daniel Boone was a man
he was a big man
but the bear was bigger
so he ran like a ______
up at tree

I heard this in 1st grade on the bus

I like this quote by Daniel Boone, probably because I can relate so well.

"I have never been lost, but I will admit to being confused for several weeks."

-- Daniel Boone

I'm here for the blankets and beads, fuckers. -Daniel Boone

How? How the fuck do I know? -Daniel Boone

Finally a Big Star everyone has heard of.

Wow Chrissy. Dan drank like a fish too! Go figure!
;)

He handled being our hero well and didn't overstay his welcome, going on to make some mighty fine wines as we -- like he -- aged. Thanks, Fess. And RIP.

50s, 60s, late 1800s, whatever.

Fess Parker died?

Dagnabbit!!

* Removes coonskin cap and places over heart *

Grew up watching Fess as both Dan'l Boone and Davey Crockett.

As Danni noted earlier Disney was a staple back then.

A quick check over at www.imdb.com shows that his first acting gig was an uncredited off camera role as the voice of Leslie the Chauffeur in Harvey. Hmmm, did not know that. Coolness. From 1954 to 1956 he played Davey Crockett fer Disney in 7 episodes. In 1957 he played the Father, Jim Coates in Ole Yeller, another Disney classic. Apparently, he also did 25 episodes of a TV version of Mr Smith Goes to Washington from 1962 to 1963. Never saw it but it's certainly a cool concept. From 1964 to 1970 he did 159 episodes of the Daniel Boone the TV program for which he will always be noted for and, of course, remembered fondly. His last noted acting gig was the Fess Parker show in 1974.

RIP Fess Parker.

Thoughts and condolences to family, friends and fans.

Be Well.

oh damn

another part of my youth gone
coonskin caps...peta wouldnt allow that sort of thing these days....

remember being glued to the tv on sunday night watching disney for the next episode.

and of course since he was from Fort Worth...that made it all the better.

How about responding to the point made in post #27?

The only point you made with your post is that you make a good strawman argument, and a better idiot.

I suggest you respond to post #43, and show me your superior mentality.

Waiting on you.

;-)

OK a little trivia... in the movie "Sideways" the scenes where the guys visit the winery "Frass Canyon" were filmed at Fess Parker, a winery owned by former actor Fess Parker. Also, in the movie Miles (Paul Giamatti) decribes "Frass Canyon" with a sneer. "Frass" is insect excrement.
