Outside an Ohio Congresswoman's office Tuesday during dueling pro- and anti-health reform rallies, the anger reached a point that anti-reform protesters mocked an apparent Parkinson's disease sufferer, scorning him as a "communist" who is looking for "handouts" and throwing dollar bills at him. "I wish we could talk back and forth," lamented one person at the rallies. "Instead it's they're right we're wrong."

Matthews interviewed the Americans For Prosperity's Tim Phillips (The President of AFP) and though Phillips condemned this action, he reinforced the message and offered nothing to help anyone that doesn't have insurance or health care. Instead, Phillips said he understood how the "Government take-over of health care" would make people that angry.

"Government take-over of health care?" Really? That's what having minimum standards, out-sourcing everything to for-profit industry and creating a little competition on an exchange is being called these days? But I digress.

Phillips he went on to cite, as an example of what this Parkinson's sufferer should do, people who sold everything they had, their homes, etc. and pay for their own care.

These jeering protesters represent AFP accurately.

Lets face it dems this health care bill is a load of crap. Don't take that to mean I am against health care reform I am all for it. However the current bill is not even close to the reform we need. Don't pass it now and fix it later FIX IT NOW.

Seriously mandatory coverage and a 750 subsidy? Have they looked at what health care costs? The cheapest plan for my family is 3360 a year and that leaves a 5k deductible. So to mandate this coverage they are willing to pick up 1/3 of the tab but if I don't get it fine me 2x the tab? That seems a bit fucked in the head to me. Especialy towards poor working class folks.

I see that you really haven't investigated the American health system.

Did you know that Biomedical and Health related equipment manufacturers sell to the US first and then the to rest of the world? You're a high tech guy and understand the life time of technology... Today (NOW), it's $10, in 2 years it's $4.50 and in 5 years it's $0.35.

The American health system buys Today's technology. The lastest and greatest! The rest of the world is happy with last year's model.

This is part of the reason our health care is so high.

Another reason is that the Health Insurance Industry is monopolized. (Period!)

Tort? Fix it! Make the plaintif pay for the doctor's legal expenses if they lose or if the case is thrown out for being frivalous. A good attorney will see the difference and will get rid of the greedy ones.

Bring the burden of providing health care back to the State level, where it belongs, and force states to allow competition, then premiums will fall. Also force states to regulate the way they want.

These are just a few, but if it were in place, you would be able to cover yourself and your family with no problem. You would never think about it.

Hmm a lot like my dad except he died from ALS not Parkinsons.

Asking someone to prove an illness is a good way to get the crap kicked out of you by their friends. Heck in my case the symptoms come and go and I have had people yell at me for parking in Handicap spaces since I do not "look" disabled. I usualy just tell them they can have my space if they take my MS too. On a bad day I have to restrain myself from beating them around the head and shoulders with my cane. (of course on a bad day no one questions me)

So with a 5k deductable I know I will hit my deductable at the beginng of the year then I have 50% up to 10k so thats another 5k a year. I have now spent 15k in one year. Thats 1.5x my mortage thats 3 x my car payment it is almost 1/3 of my household income. My question is at what point will the system decide it has soaked me for enough?

The other question is would you prefer for me to keep working and suporting my family while trying to pay insane healthcare cost or would you prefer for me to just say fuck it and get on SSDI I would make almost as much plus I could be the stay at home dad while my wife worked meaning we would make even more than we are now and medicare could pay for all that shit.

If you seriously are for personal responsibility then how about some corporate responsibility? I am trying to be responsible but how many 29 year olds with 3 kids have the means to support 15k a year in health care costs? I am lucky I am smart and a hard worker and actualy good at what I do so I can absorb those cost if just barely but my deductible is going up 13% this year so it will raise my total cost to 16k a year.

There are about 4 million people like you and that number is growing quickly because insurance companies are taking advantage of the chaos in Washington and raising rates and kicking sick people off of their roles.

Back before Medicaid, in Louisiana, your medical bills would have been covered 100%. Back then, we didn't have the level of medical care we have now, nor would you have been on so many medications.

My sister's husband had pancreatic cancer and they removed part of his pancreas. This made him a diabetic. He was supposed to die, but he didn't. He's a tough old cuss! He couldn't get insurance for the longest time and went to the state to get his medication. They finally divorced and he went bankrupt so that he could get Medicaid.

That is screwed up!!!

No one wants to own this problem, but the responsibility belongs to the state and I want to see it change!!!

Actualy only one of the meds is new, Avonex, the rest are old hat and thats why they are not that much because I can get generics. However that was mainly to illustrate the issue, I don't even take Avonex anymore. I am on a clinical trial for an even newer MS drug (BTW devloped by Novartis a Swiss company) It has cut the MRI the Neuro apointment and the Avonex out of my cost keeping things under control by using myself as a human guinea pig.

Kinda sad when a young working dad has to decide between becomeing a guinea pig or bankrupting his family.

I don't know that socialized medicine would solve anything as the taxes might be just as burdensome as the cost are now. Having never lived in a socialized medicine country I could not make a comparison.

However at this point seeing how fucked up medicine in our country is I am willing to try just about anything else.

Bullshit, Species....he'd be seen in many places .. clinics, hospitals, E/R rooms, even doctor's offices, without cost.

There are some places that wouldn't, but that would violate existing law. But there are far more entities that would make sure the child was treated and had medication available. Even many of the pharmaceutical provide low or no cost medications to people that need that help.

As for meds, there are some stores with pharmacies that fill some prescriptions, including antibiotic ones, for free. Publix supermarkets with pharmacies in Florida I know from personal experience, talking with the pharmacists and reading their signs.
