In Spud's considered opinion the DR has over the last few years become an increasingly serious site for real and substantive debate on the under-reported stories of the day as well as an excellent forum for deconstructing the spin of the corporate MSM.
All this while the actual MSM increasingly becomes more of a tabloid itself. With money for news staffs in newspapers and on TV going the way of the dodo and empty headed talking haircuts and NILF's delivering so-called news that mostly breaks down as being dumbed-down, think-tanked sound bytes, ads disguised as news, celebrity gossip, and deliberately timed leaks in lieu of actual well reported and researched news.
The MSM have by and large FAILed to keep the powers-that-be's feet to the fire while blog-world has increasingly taken over that task while critically appraising the MSM's many failures.
Bottom line is that this is a user driven site.
It's like a pot luck dinner where everyone brings a dish.
Don't show up with a bag of Fritos and some Twinkies and then complain about the food.
