Just how much sponsorship money did pi have to pay to get its own day? Seems like pi would have spent the money on math scholarships if it were not being so self-aggrandizing like this. Pi is an asshole. Guess it's just a sign of the times: even an irrational constant has got to have publicity to avoid being forgotten.
