512 anti-government Patriot groups were active in the United States last year, a leap from 149 in 2008, according to a new report by the Southern Poverty Law Center. "We are in the midst of one of the most significant right-wing populist rebellions in United States history," said Chip Berlet.

BFD...it's a free country.

You suppose they're keeping tabs on how many leftwing militant groups there are out there, too?

What is right-wing domestic terrorism?
Attacks committed by people who favor individual freedoms over governmental regulation are classified as right-wing domestic terrorism.

That sounds rather backwards, doesn't it?

I mean, ask people "Which party favors individual freedoms over government regulation?"

Arvil - and his other brother Arvil

It's Officially and Epidemic

If ya can find any militant leftwing groups be sure to tell us.

That's what Welfare records are for. And ACORN's 'voter registration' drives.

Attacks committed by people who favor individual freedoms over governmental regulation are classified as right-wing domestic terrorism.

These self-absorbed bands of idiotic trailer trash favor anarchy. "Freedom" is just a catchy word they use to sell their chosen brand of extremism to a clueless, gullible audience. Kind of like a credit card that advertizes "0% APR" with a big fat asterisk afterward.

Rightwing militias are nutty lumps of shit clinging to the asshole of America. Their members want to add a sense of epic struggle between good and evil to their ordinarily pathetic lives. The only problem - that struggle isn't happening in this country so these idiots have to invent reasons to legitimize radicalism. Why do you think so many of them concoct delusions of persecution by the government, ethnic minorities, non-Christians, New World Order, or whoever? Why do you think they rally against nonexistent threats?

So did government.

The emphasis in the Reuters story is heavily on right-wing groups, which makes me wonder whether SPLC could reach more people if it simply reported on extremists of all kinds. It's factually accurate to describe these kinds of groups as extremist right wing, but that's likely to cause the rest of the right to resent the association.

Extremists can be dangerous whether they're on the far right or the far left. Though the ones on the right are more likely to arm up and form militias, there are animal rights and ecological extremists on the left who blow stuff up. The left/right split is not as useful as knowing what all of these groups are doing and saying.

I wonder why that is happening? Seems like when there are islamic or right wing groups forming, all is quiet.

Has the SDS come back to life? Seems like I have seen some of their stuff out in the past year or so.

Very very true.

The leftwing loons out there are probably fewer, at least right now, and the ones you hear about are more interested in torching gas-guzzlers than flying planes into federal buildings.

Who give a shit about buildings and people? SAVE THE SUV!!!!

AXE: LOL!

OldWiskeySour - Here's one leftie group who has actually committed terrorist acts in recent times: Earth Liberation Front (E.L.F.).

Earth Liberation Front, ACORN, the people who throw rocks at WTO meeting: Is it enough to suggest that they do what they do for the benefit of real live people, and not because they hate black presidents, health benefits for the poor and reproductive rights - and worst of all, paying their fair share of taxes? herm

Why do you think they rally against nonexistent threats?

Do you mean like Osama Bin Laden and Al Q?
If that is true, then you are saying the government/media have been lying to the US populace all of this time.
Kinda like Israel always saying everyone is out to get them, but it always seems Israel is the one doing the bombings and the aggressive "preemptive" strikes on their neighbors.

Seriously, after all you DO call yourself ZombieHunter so it kinda makes it hard to believe your angle.

In their own way, the Southern Poverty Law Center, is a terrorist group against the White People of this country.

They do all these things, ZombieHunter, to create angst amongst the pant-pissers.

No other reason.

Are your pants sufficiently wet, Bendor?

Rebelnookie,

The SPLC is the group keeping track of phony-terrorists like you good old boys down to the fillin' station that couldn't come up with the cash to buy them fancy robes and join up with the klan all proper like.

They know you're probably full of crap but they keep an eye on you just in case.

terrorist = against power

Hi Rex!

just what this toilet needs...

just what this toilet needs...

Looks like someone pinched off a steaming Rex. The floater will be flushed soon enough. But until then, let's admire this magnificent piece of shit.

He can't fool me. I'm like a friggin' Sherlock Holmes at detecting banned users.

- and worst of all, paying their fair share of taxes? herm

Herm, then they're probably dummocrats and we all know dummocrats don't pay taxes---they just support more government that conservatives can pay taxes for.

Rightwing militias are nutty lumps of shit clinging to the asshole of America.

I've got the next best thing on the retort. You, Wisgod, and LR seem to follow me around quite a bit.

I've always wondered why there isn't a Northern Poverty Law Center, or West Coast Poverty Law Center.

I mean, poor, uneducated people live everywhere. Or is the SPLC more akin to ACORN or NOW?

Why so much hate for the south, SPLC??? Did Shermann not do a good enough job for ya?

Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) is a United States student organization representing left wing beliefs. It takes its name and inspiration from the original SDS of the 1960s, the largest radical student organization in US history, but the contemporary SDS is a distinct youth and student-led organization with over 120 chapters world wide.

*Herm dehumanizes the opposition.

"Earth Liberation Front, ACORN, the people who throw rocks at WTO meeting: Is it enough to suggest that they do what they do for the benefit of real live people,"

*Herm labels the opposition as racist because it is easier then addressing their concerns.

"and not because they hate black presidents,"

*Herm does this with a degree of self-righteousness sprinkled in.

"health benefits for the poor"

*Herm ignors the complacated issue of the unborn fetus by calling infanticide "reproductive rights"

"and reproductive rights"

*Herm does it with conviction

"- and worst of all,"

*Herm places himself upon the pedestal in order to protect his delicate ego that has obviously gotten in the way of everything that he has ever wanted to accomplish in his life.

"paying their fair share of taxes? herm"

There is a reason that the Nazis were able to get their citizens to march people into the gas chambers. Herm is a prime example of that line reason.

Here I go thinking you were talking about soap...
