I will be glad to ask for the raising of taxes. That is necessary to meet expeditures.

The Congress should end the offices of the Chaplain of the House and the Chaplain of the Senate. Remove the entire staffs of these offices.

They are unnecessary for the running of government.

I don't know how valid this information is, but I like charity beginning at home. Cut money going overseas to foreign countries.

Bring the troops home. No, not just Iraq or Afghanistan. All the other countries we are sitting in. Move the troops to the border of Texas where Mexican helicopters may be flying over US neighborhoods.

The Pig Book - a nice place to start.

Is is really that hard to find cuts?

$200,000 by Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) for the Providence Holy Cross Foundation tattoo removal violence prevention program in Mission Hills. In fiscal 2002 there was a $50,000 earmark for a tattoo removal program in San Luis Obispo, in the district of Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.). It is now time for a pork removal program.

$238,000 by Senate appropriator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) for the Alaska PTA in Anchorage to "train parents in their roles and responsibilities under the No Child left Behind Act."

It isn't really hard.

However, some of the pork seems quite appropriate for the public's safety and health... so the pig book isn't really all want and no need.

$190,000 by House appropriator Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) to turn the Fruitvale Masonic Temple in Oakland into a cultural and performing arts center.

Because we all know there isn't any cultural/performing arts in Oakland.

Re-assess pay for gov workers.

Dept Of Education (eliminate - let the states go back to being in charge like when we had good education), National Endowment For The Arts (eliminate - one buys art [in any form] when flush, not when in debt), National Public Radio (eliminate - more than enough media outlets nowadays, ridiculous govt grants; just to name a few for starters.

No, there isn't any there there.

"let the states go back to being in charge like when we had good education"

Oh, you mean before Prop 13?

Close Energy, Education, Labor, and DHS. Cut all federal government salaries and benefits by 20% across the board, immediately. Repeal NCLB, the prescription drug bill, and remove all taxpayer guarantees on private debt and mortgages.

Are you all trying to say that there are things that can be cut before considering raising taxes?

Who would have known?

Oh, you mean before Prop 13?

It's the spending stupid!

And...so what? 80% of the money is spent on defense and entitlements. Or by "cut all federal government salaries" you included the military and social security.

It's the bullshit unfunded federal mandates like "no child left behind" dumbass.

You're logic is fucked up. Instead of blaming the federal government. You blame taxpayers who got tired of being ripped off. California is going bankrupt because it spends too much. Period!

Go here and take your pick:

It might be simpler to list the things we'd keep.

GOP politicians have said 'Cut spending - but not in my district!:

WASHINGTON While Senator Saxby Chambliss, Republican of Georgia, said he was all for slowing federal spending, he has no appetite for the substantial cuts in farm programs proposed in President Obama's new budget.

Representative Todd Akin, Republican of Missouri, issued a press release simultaneously lamenting the deficit spending outlined in the new budget and protesting cuts in Pentagon projects important to his state.

And Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, a fiscal conservative and a senior Republican on the Budget Committee, vowed to resist reductions in space program spending that would flow back home.

The positions of these Republicans and similar stances by dozens of other lawmakers of both parties are a telling illustration of why it is so hard to control federal spending. Every federal program has a constituency, and even lawmakers who profess to be alarmed by rising deficits will go to the mat to preserve money that provides jobs and benefits to their constituents.

VERNON

Just get used to hearing it even though you don't want to, troll. You're freakin' obsessed with me and denial of anything having to do with the GOP!!!!

If the GOP want to whine about spending cuts then they'd better be willing to have them cut in their districts. The article I linked above says they're unwilling. Hypocrites.

BTW, You were dead wrong (as usual) on Taiwan's health care system. Go to the Massa thread.

Know of what thou speaketh of, troll.

Medicare, medicaid, social security, all farm subsidies, DHS, IRS, congressional perks (like 200,000 plus for food for Ms. Pelosi and staff to eat on the way to and from CA -- and the planes as well, when it comes to that -- if she wants to commute weekly, do it on her dime). Reduce all the staff for house and senate to 1 per member paid by taxes.

Funding for the arts, NCLB, prescription drug program, the entire defense department (unless the constitution is amended), etc.

Basically, go back to the CONSTITUTION and follow it. If you want something changed, like a military, then put it to a vote of the people in the states.

I am sure I could find a lot more, once we get rid of all of these.

Oops, almost forgot... the war on drugs. The war on poverty.

GOP politicians have said 'Cut spending - but not in my district!

This is why we will never get meaningful term limits.

NIMBY politics assures that reps who can 'bring home the bacon' get reelected.

Polls that show low approval ratings for Congress also show much higher approval ratings for individual reps in home districts.

The only time the GOP beats the spending drum is when they are out of power. Once in, they raid the till worse than the Dems.

In answer to the question, I would cut corporate welfare, starting with natural resource giveaways and other sweetheart deals to corporations.

"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."

"Just get used to hearing it even though you don't want to, troll. You're freakin' obsessed with me and denial of anything having to do with the GOP!!!!"

Sorry, oh silly one, but I don't give a flip if you keep posting the same pointless post forever. I only make note of it to point out that you have nothing to say.

And it's funny to see you dance at my command.

Sounds like you wish someone were obsessed with you. That's progress. Do you also realize that the waitress at Denny's may not be happy to see you, despite her smile?

As for denial about the GOP? The record is obvious. The numbers are public. The Republicans are total fuck ups. I've said it many times.

You must really be pining for the good old days when all you had to do was post "Bush's Fault" without thinking.

You still don't want to think. That's why, on threads about CURRENT issues, all you can do is say "Bush was bad"

I live in Taiwan, dipshit. When you get your own place you can tell me what it's like to pay rent.

Now go play air guitar.

Nation Endowment for the Arts!

The entire Stimulus package!

Pensions for senators and congressmen!

White house staff budget especially the money wasted on the staff of the first lady no matter what party!

Farm sudsidies to not grow food!

Money for the ACLU to sue the government!

"No Nothing award of the month winner, VERNON"

Doesn't even know if you live in Taiwan 4 months you can get on their national health plan for $650 a year.

I've owned my own house since I was in my 20's. Happily married for over 20 years. Thanks for playing.

I see why people refer to "Vernon's Calculator" - always wrong.

I'd cut the $250,000 farm subsidy Michelle Bachman's family gets.

When you take your axes to cut the spending let's also keep a tally of the number of additional unemployed you create at the same time.

"National Endowment For The Arts"

Because, God knows, that 30 cents a person to keep programs like Shakespeare in the Schools is killing us.

A little perspective, please.

The bailout was thousands of dollars per American. And someone is worried about the (non-endowed) National Endowment for the Arts?!?

you know, a billion here and a billion there, sooner or later that's gonna add up to some serious money.

"you know, a billion here and a billion there, sooner or later that's gonna add up to some serious money."

And six years of NEA monies will almost add up to a single billion.

Foreign Aid to most countries, EPA, Combine most of the fed. law enforment, Cancel all special use of Air Force planes for congress, fly space "A" or take a bus. Cancell all presidential trips that are private. make the RNC and DNC donate 50% of the money they rasie for elections to pay off the debt. Fire 100 of Mrs. Obama's personal staff.
Just randomly walk thru D C and shut down every other office in any Fed building. Starting with congress and the whitehouse. Dept of Education,
