It might sound like the start of a bad joke, but how many Venezuelan soldiers does it take to change a light bulb?

I have an big box of them we removed from our new house a couple of years ago - they're already prepared for launch mode in the trebuchet I want my husband to build for me...*8D

Hey Skanc,

Make sure you get into the sling with the bulbs for the first launch!!!

People who deliberately waste their own money are fools of the first order. Those who waste their grandkids' legacy are just plain evil.

Politicians in D.C. are stealig from future generations with so much debt and deficit. I am glad you agree with me that they are bad people.

The politicians passed evil long ago. Linguists are still working on finding a new word to describe them.

Nobody was making an argument that our government isn't wasteful. Are you trying to say that we need not worry about waste in our personal lives until the politicos fix it in government? If the politicos won't set an example maybe it's time for individuals to step up and do so.

I wonder if Chavez could sent the Venezuelan Army over to my house. I've got 3 electrical outlets that need to be replaced with CSF switches .

sent = send

coffee time

I switched (no pun intended) to CFC's about 2 years ago. They work great!

The pinheads that complain about CFC's are too impatient to wait for them to warm up to full brightness. They probably complain that the microwave popcorn takes forever, too!!

The new crop of CFC's have great color and are just as bright as the incandescent bulbs they replace. Unfortunately the booze-addled set can't deal with the warm-up time.

Sometimes people turn on a light to look for something in a room and then turn it off when they found it and go to another room. What is the point of waiting around then?

When new technology comes around to replace another, at the beginning it is sometimes worse in terms of results. Maybe as this technology is developed, it will become more acceptable to more people. But no, soon everyone will be forced to buy these stupid bulbs.

Does it bother anyone that a government would depoloy THE MILITARY to change light bulbs around the country? Am I the only one creeped out by this?

You must really hate Toys for Tots.

Why, do you live in Venezuela?

You must really hate Toys for Tots.

No, the Tots for Toys campaign was rather unsettling.

I didn't they had a warm up time and thought they were messed up when I switched my outside bulbs, which happened to be during winter (don't know if cold matters or not). Glad I didn't trash them right away. They take a couple min. but once they're going they're fine. They don't work well at all on faders though.

Cold has a big effect. The circuitry has to warm up and if it starts out really cold, it takes longer. Also the colder it is, the dimmer they start out.

If you have a dimmer control on a circuit with several lamps, just make sure that one lamp has an incandescent bulb. It needs the resistance load to trigger the fader circuit. The CFC's still won't fade, but the circuit will work fine. That way you don't have to replace the dimmer with a regular switch. I hear they are working on dimmable CFC's but I have not found any yet.

I wouldn't use a CFC on a porch light or a stairway that needs quick reaction time. The new LED bulbs are way cool but they are insanely expensive now. Maybe in a couple of years they will be the way to go.

Nice, hope they come out soon. Our elect. bill is down a bit I *think* because of these. (not very scientific, I know)

We've just learned to flip the switch before getting our shoes and coats on. By the time we bundle up they're typically pretty bright.

I chosen to exercise my freedom by purchasing a couple of cartons of Reveal incandescent bulbs in the wattages I use most (40s, 60s, etc.). I have myself covered for the next couple of decades.

ps: Despite so many claims, I've only had to replace three bulbs in my home over the past seven years - it helps to have quality fixtures.
