Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

JACKSON, Miss. Constance McMillen didn't believe her Mississippi school district would really call off her senior prom rather than allow her to show up with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo. On Thursday, a day after the Itawamba County school board did just that, the 18-year-old lesbian high school senior reluctantly returned to campus to some unfriendly looks, she said.

I'd like to hear the school district argueing for discrimination. Since they can't attack blacks as easily and openly as before, gays are among the few minorities left under their bigoted power.

This law suit is frivolous. The school has a right to cancel the prom for any reason they come up with. However, the ACLU could sue if it is found that they have had a pattern of discrimination and that is the SOLE reason for shutting down prom. From what I understand there is a prom committee and by laws associated with prom in what can and can not be worn, to promote the "spirt" of the prom. So if this does goto court it will be interesting to watch, but I don't see the courts forcing the school to have a prom, but perhaps changing some of its practices.

Ya know some hotel owner in NO offered the use of his hotel, and to pay to bus everyone down there. So why go with a law suit why not just use the free hotel? Maybe they could use some of the money saved to educate people there that Gay isn't contaigous.

"The ACLU filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Oxford to force the school district to sponsor the prom and allow McMillen to bring whom she chooses and wear what she wants."

As pointed out, there is a Prom Committee which sets the rules and determines what to wear. I would assume when you purchase the ticket you agree to abide by the rules set forth. I could be wrong, but do those who attend have to bring a date? Why not just change the theme to a costume ball style prom?
