I bet Ringmaster just wetted his afghan a little.

First it was the IRS, and now the Dept of Education. I understand the IRS need, as they have law enforcement powers, but Education?!? WTF?

At the risk of scaring a few of our resident wetters, here's a pic of the 870.

What's really scary is that private citizens can own these guns. Well, not the 14" barrel but you get the point.

What's so scary? It's a nice combat shotgun.

And why are you so frightened that I could own one? Is it because it "looks scary"? That is the basis of the Assault Weapons Ban, how a weapon "looks".

OK, here's the scary part. The delivery address for the shotguns:

Place of Delivery:
U.S. Department of Education
Office of Inspector General
c/o: Gary Pawlak, Special Agent
500 West Madison Street - Suite 1414
Chicago, IL 60661

A city and state that does not give a flying fuck about 2nd Amendment rights needs combat shotguns for the US education department located there. Things that make you go hmmmm.............

Good day, eh?

Take off, eh! ;-)

Why in the fuck would you want sights on a 14" barreled shotgun? Particularly a tactical shotgun?

That's what I want.

Eventually...

Street sweeper?

What's so scary?

They must have a shortage of sarcasm meters in Canada.

My bad! And to think, one of my first posts on DR was about the sarcmarc software for sale on the web.........oy vey!

They have an urgent need for the shotguns. March 8th posting date with delivery by March 22nd.

"The required date of delivery is March 22, 2010.
Interested sources must submit detailed technical capabilities and any other information that demonstrates their ability to meet the requirements above, no later than March 12, 2010 at 12 PM, E.S.T"

Might be a requirement that all guns have sites. I have ghost ring sights for longer range shots. They're also good for better shot placement at close range because they give a frame of refereence for the bead site. You can line the bead up with your eyeball and still be off by a mile, but if you've got a ghost ring, you have you choice but to be in line with the barrel to line the bead up.

If I'm using the shotgun for hunting birds or small game, I take the ghost ring off, but I "sit and wait hunt" with my shotgun, and sometimes you need a little bit more reach than just a bead site can give you.

For tactical purposes, it turns the shotgun into a close combat weapon to a "100 or so yard" combat weapon. Plus, as a tactical weapon, the user needs to hit what he's aiming at.

Of course.

When I think of tactical weapon, I guess in my head that means a less than or equal to 15 yard weapon.

sorry about the double post.

Here's an explanation of the gun purchase:

The Office of Inspector General in several government departments has law enforcement authority to police fraud within the department. Here's a list of recent cases they've pursued at the Department of Education:

This ties in nicely with the thread about firing bad teachers.

I actualy had a teacher in highschool who first day of class walked in opened his breif case and pulled out his colt (www.rc-trucks.org) put it on top of his breif case and said my name is Mr. Butler this is my class and my rules. He left the gun on his breifcase the whole first class.

That I recall there were never any behavior issues in the class.

I'm sure he would have been fired today.

That teacher sounds like a lunatic. How did that not get him in trouble?

Private school in the 80's Rcade.

He wasn't a lunatic (well not much of one) he was actualy a damn good teacher and knew how to get and keep our attention. He also was suprisingly slack in many ways. He didn't care if we ate or drank in class, he didn't care if we sat in desks (I sat on a table off to the side). However he made sure we learned the material. The gun never made a second apearance I belive it was just for show, and it worked. Eventualy he got fired because a parent saw him drinking one night and complained. We all loved him and the students threw a fit and it was a good fight to save his job but the parents paid the tuition bills not the kids.

So the pro-establishment rcade would have us believe that an urgent need two week deadline for obtaining police shotguns is for a bunch of corrupt employees who are threats that need to be removed by force. If there was such an urgency, they could easily issue warrants through the respective local sheriff.

The OIG, after producing their general statement that this request is just a replacement of old guns, referred further questions of reporters back to their statement.

#22 I don't mind the educators having guns as long as the guns the kids have are bigger and shoot more rounds faster.

Great RCADES liberal idea is to have the Federal government armed to the teeth all the way down to the Education Department. Like Local law enforcement can not handle an arrest. The type of decision the breeds the Mcveigh of the world.

Great RCADES liberal idea is to have the Federal government armed to the teeth all the way down to the Education Department.

Never said that. I think it's a wasteful duplication of resources to have law enforcement agencies in multiple federal departments. If the Department of Education needs to serve a criminal warrant or apprehend somebody, they should call the FBI.

But, but, but ...Liberals love Big Government and governmental waste. Glenn Beck told me!!!1!11

Be Well.

One of the things I wish Obama could do is kill a couple big executive departments as a lesson to the others. The economy makes that problematic, since it would be putting people out of work, but he could at least do it on a five-year plan.

My Mossberg 12 Ga has an 18 1/2 barrel and I never once felt I needed to add these sights.
