Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The UN's independent expert on torture on Wednesday criticised the Obama administration for not investigating allegations of torture made when President George W. Bush was in power. "There is not enough done to remedy what has been done in the past," Manfred Nowak, UN special rapporteur on torture, told journalists. "I think it's a legal question. The US are a part of the UN Convention against Torture, but there are very clear legal obligations -- wherever you have indications, complaints about torture, then you have to investigate them independently and effectively."

Manfred Nowak: "There are so many other reasons for the Obama administration to really establish a high-level, blue-ribbon commission or a special investigator that has all the investigative powers to really look into the practices. That means us to declassify still certain documents, so to tell the American public what happened, but those of the world, what were major human rights violations committed by the Bush administration and, in my case, of course, what kind of torture methods. Perhaps we don't know everything."

fuck him and the Norse he rode in on.

If there are a few things I cannot stand, they are the stupid words that the media uses to describe someone opposing someone

1. Slam - it seems like everyone is slamming everyone lately, maybe that is why congress and senate are not getting anything done.

2. Blast - everyone is getting blasted all over the place, this might be why there is so much gun violence with our children. Our upstanding lawmakers are showing them that walking around blasting everyone is completely alright.

3. Bash

Come up with better words people... It's your job.

thanks for offering something constructive to the conversation once again, exp.

If I were a lib I would be pretty pissed that there isn't even a semblence of investigation into the Presidnt Bush admin, knowing how passionate President Obama's base is about considering President Bush a war criminal.

This is exactly why I believe that in 50 years President Bush will just be an ordinary president. If there aren't charges pressed now, President Bush's history will read as: President during 9/11, invaded Afghanistan as a response. In 2003, invaded Iraq because intelligence believed Saddam Hussein was trying to develop or was close to developing nuclear WMD. Re-elected in 2004, nominated Harriet Meyers, failed, left office in January 2009.

"If I were a lib I would be pretty pissed that there isn't even a semblence of investigation into the Presidnt Bush admin."

We are. Democrats have to pretend this isn't not happening.

You'd make a good liberal, Andy.

Is congratulations the right word for having your deployment order changed?

Is congratulations the right word for having your deployment order changed?

Certainly! Me and the wife are expecting in September so they got someone else in the whole Air Force to take my spot. It was a volunteer gig for me in the first place (before I heard the baby news) so of course I was planning on going and getting an Iraq stint under my belt, and make some money, but staying home this summer will be grand. I may never deploy again, depending on what Afghanistan looks like in 2011-2012, which I am kind of sad about because the time to do it is when I'm in my 20s, but whatever. It's all for the best.

You'd make a good liberal, Andy.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A GOOD LIBERAL!!

(had to throw that in).

But really President Obama is governing as a moderate, although his personal beliefs are not moderate. He's handcuffed himself in the name of political pragmatism in hopes of a second term.

"He's handcuffed himself in the name of political pragmatism in hopes of a second term."

That should be posted at the top of every daily nooner.

Something tells me the POTUS doesn't have much influence in what the CIA does. I think it's been that way since Nov. 22nd, 1963.

this reminds me of an article in which China called us hypocrites because of human rights or something of that nature.

America has been doing this since forever, people just never care to think about it, or confess to it as wrong.

ch does a UN special rapporteur on torture pay?what about the 500 men, women and children that were hacked to death last week?

Thanks for the promotion, rcade. And for the headline update that negates exp's ancillary point.

Clearly though, there are two sides to this story. First, the right doesn't want to adress the UN assessment because torture makes their mouth water. And the left...? Their partisan concerns outweigh all others. They have to put their hands over their eyes and pretend they didn't see this.

what about the 500 men, women and children that were hacked to death last week?

WTF are you talking about? Did the President of the United States of America order that massacre?

If he did, you might have a point.

A US citizen:
We dont give sh*t 'bout what you say !
Or at least we should'nt.

WTF are you talking about? Did the President of the United States of America order that massacre?

said nothing about the president, just wondering where the outrage is from Manfred Nowak, UN special rapporteur on torture,i guess the evil america needs to be addressed first.

THERES NO CRIME if the US Govt "Denies" It!!!

The US Govt is Poisonously CORRUPT from Top to Bottom and their Treasonous Treachery includes everything from the instigation of 911 to the Iraq and Afghanistan "Oil & Opium" Wars - So obviously they have a very vested interest in "Denying" everything that points the accusing...and just finger at them!!!

just wondering where the outrage is from Manfred Nowak, UN special rapporteur on torture,i guess the evil america needs to be addressed first.

Who represents a bigger threat in the world:

An out-of-control bloodthirsty warmonger with a machete?
Or
An out-of-control bloodthirsty warmonger with F-16s and nuclear bombs?

See the "America Haters" are out in full force tonight....

Oh yea, I reall give a shit what the U.N. has to say. Defund them and kick their sorry asses out of NYC!

I don't hate America.

I'm simply cognizant of the twin realities that we maintain the hegemony via "force projection" and, prior to that, built our empire on the backs of slaves. With a liberal sprinkling of genocide of the natives on top.

but, we are still torturing.............always have, always will. the difference is Bush is a republican..............oh and wire tapping

What an ignorant, despicable sack of shit you are.

So says the scrawny trust fund rancher.

Have you been training your martial arts?

Have you been training your martial arts?

No.

I just cower in my apartment and surf the web on proxy servers---send anonymous emails---stream UFC----you know, courageous shit like that.

My anonymity is my health plan.

I just had an intense training session after work today. While you are out playing Cowboys and Indians I am preparing physically.

Rove just shot his mouth off in an interview with the BBC. He managed to indict Bush and Cheney. If there ever was an investigation, they've certainly proved they've water-boarded and they're proud of it.

There's not much left to prove. They've admitted to a war crime.

What an ignorant, despicable sack of shit you are.

Do you intentionally describe yourself on a regular basis? Or do you actually believe that you are in fact not a despicable sack of shit?

YAV- Cheney already pretty much admitted to war crimes on TV twice now.

Obama isn't going to do anything.

Do you intentionally describe yourself on a regular basis?

Oooh.

That's a pretty profound wit you have there.

Fucking douche.

JAK

Why'd you take down the pic on PhotoBucket of your grandmother throwing up beer? Classic.

It writes itself.

It certainly does:

If you're going to describe Jak Se Mao as a chapswearin', ridin', ropin', rustlin' Texas cowboy hunk then you've got it right. *wink*

Indeed a classic!

Good she had the quickness of mind to get the wastebasket to puke in LOL

No shit!

Had she been born 50 years later, she could have had the quickness of mind to hack into someone's account!

LOL!

How do you know when a redneck's married?

There's puke on both sides of the car.

JAK

When you post photos on Photobucket anyone can see your photo albums.
That's the intent of the site.

Actually, you post links to photos from a password protected site with albums.

If you spend enough time fucking around with the subdomain and changing the host name, you can hack into the account.

Which is not a big deal, but still kind of creepy.

It's good to know you care....

JAK

No one has to fuck around with anything.

You delete everything in the URL up to the user name and hit "ENTER".

It isn't intended to be a private site.

JAK

FYI: I just checked on something at PhotoBucket.

If you want to make it "Private" log in, go to the page where you upload photos, hit the "Account Settings" tab above the "UPLOAD" button, scroll down, and there's a place you can select "Public" or "Private".

You can make up a password to give to friends and family so they can see your albums.

President Bush's history will read as: President who allowed 9/11 to occur, invaded Afghanistan in order to build a long delayed pipeline project. In 2003, invaded Iraq based on deliberate lies and caveat-free intelligence in order to allow the takeover of the once nationalized Iraqi Oil Industry. Re-elected in 2004 through massive voter fraud, nominated Harriet Meyers, failed, left office in January 2009.

FTFY.

Of course there should be an independent inquiry into BushCo War Crimes including torture.

There won't be but there should be.

Be Well.

This country used to be proud of being a nation of laws. The Republican party trumpeted themselves over the last 4 or 5 decades to be the party of "law and order".

Article VI of the U.S. Constitution:

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States [emphasis mine], shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstdanding."

Get that? "supreme Law of the Land".

The United Nations Convention Against Torture was signed by the U.S. on 18 Apr 1988 and ratified by the Senate on 21 Oct 1994

The new position of the Republicans and "conservatives":

"Fuck the law. We're scared somebody might kill us. We only believe in the law when we need it to protect our private property or oppress people we don't like"

"Land of the Free and Home of the Brave," huh? Anyone who's been paying attention knows that the Dems won't touch this because they will be tarred with being "pro terrorist" by the right wing. Yes, that is chickenshit, but it's true nonetheless.
