Former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers was sentenced today to 37 months in prison and two years supervised probation in the Synagro bribery scandal that rocked the city of Detroit. "Her abuse of her office for self-enrichment was a betrayal of her fiduciary duty to the citizens and pensioners of the city who entrusted their taxpayer dollars and retirement money to her," prosecutors said.

Oh, I know...she's a real piece of work.

She is a Democrat, isn't she? The article never mentioned it.

The AP didn't mention Democrat it either.

ABC either.

CBS either.

No article at NBC.

Hey, FOXNews said she was a Democrat!

Hey, FOXNews said she was a Democrat!

They got one right? They usually just tag everycriminal as a Democrat. Buh bye Monica. Now if they could only put Kwame away, but the local white billionaires are on his side.

That's some time she got ...

Bye bye Monica..

so she gets les than 5 years? WTF. I get caught doing what she did I would have the damn book thrown at me; even if I took a plea.

Thirty-seven months in prison is a long sentence for that kind of crime.

She is a Democrat, isn't she? The article never mentioned it.

Every member of the Detroit City Council is a Democrat.

Sure yer not thinking of Mark Foley?

Corrupt pols need to do time for financial malfeasance.

Doesn't matter wot party they are from.

If Mrs. Conyers got 37 months for this imagine wot Dumbya and Cheney should get for losing literally billions of dollars in Iraq.

Consecutive life sentences till the end of time.

Be Well.

Detroit has nothing BUT Democrats, pretty sure they run conservatives out of town as quickly as possible...can't have people not on welfare ya know?

That city has turned into one of the biggest embarrassments in Michigan, second only to the Canadian governor trying to raise taxes to pay for more state welfare. :(

Every member of the Detroit City Council is a Democrat.

Which kinda explains why Detroit is in such shambles.

Last night my work took me to the McNichols (6 Mile) and John R area. My God. What a horrible area.

Detroit had a brief spat with a good and honorable mayor, Dennis Archer (D), and the racists in Detroit hated him for reaching out to whitey.

"She is a Democrat, isn't she? The article never mentioned it."

Probably because the members of the Detroit City Council are elected on a nonpartisan municipal ballot.

Which kinda explains why Detroit is in such shambles.

Detroit was in trouble long before white flight turned it into a Democratic stronghold. The industrial base of the town went away as jobs moved overseas.

Detroit was in trouble long before white flight turned it into a Democratic stronghold. The industrial base of the town went away as jobs moved overseas.

Uh huh.

The overseas flight didn't really occur until NAFTA and that passed in the '90's. Care to explain away the 30+-year deterioration that occurred prior to that?

You have a point there, JEFF

NAFTA was a good idea in theory, but not in practice.

Both parties deserve a bloody nose over that one.

Detroit was in trouble long before white flight turned it into a Democratic stronghold.

Detroit was a Democratic stronghold when they were making Model T's.

She's a democrat like all the other idiots in Detroit. Bulldozing one third of the city is a good idea but bulldozing the whole city is even better. Dems and the unions ruined the city and now all of us must pay.

30 years takes us just past Reagan to Carter's last year. Union busting, offshoring of manufacturing, inviting foriegn auto manufacturers in that would never return the favor, control fraud and erosion of the local tax base explain it all. These changes are all part of an organized war against the American middle class, justified morally by Libertarian Economists, as raising the standard of living of foriegners. Which begs the question just which country (or company) do our leaders work for?

Do you realize how this country became an economic powerhouse? It was our labor force's willingness to work for less-than their competition. What happened afterward? Gee, I don't know. The Chinese and the Indians are currently poised to do the same. We can slow it down via protectionism, but we will only exacerbate the problem long-term.

Automotive jobs didn't move overseas, they moved South. If you're considering putting up a factory that builds cars, you'd have to be out of your mind to do it in a state run by labor unions and Democrats.

When was the last time detroit had a republican mayor?

The last Republican Mayor of Detroit, MI was Louis C. Miriani. He served from September 12, 1957 to January 2, 1962. He was Detroit's 63rd mayor.

And this is another example of how we're supposed to assume that another patriarch of the Democratic leadership had no idea what was going on in his own house.

Bawney Fwank's gay lover runs a whorehouse for queer men--he had no idea! Barack Obama's pastor of 20 years is a raving racist lunatic--he had no clue whatsoever. The dumbass libtard who writes America's tax code didn't know he was in violation of it. The moron who couldn't figure out TurboTax is now running Treasury, and now this standard-bearer from Michigan is seeing his wife go to prison.

Most ethical bunch ever!

-Most ethical bunch ever!

Let us know when they lie us into a "preemptive war', K'?

How soon we forget Abramoff, Delay, and that ethical bunch, right?

rig, does anyone realy believe that the turbo tax moron realy does his own taxes with turbo tax? Hell, I don't even do MY own taxes and I make less than $100k.

I use turbo tax, but I don't file a schedule C nor do I have self-employment income.

I haven't forgotten anything. But I remember Pelosi promising "the most ethical Congress ever".

What a bunch of lying douches. And so the electorate has a choice: we either have to believe that this bunch of libtards is just politics as usual, or that they were just stupid. Either way, they should be gone.

And they will be.

I file Sched C and all my income is self-employment, and I use H&R Block Tax Cut. Never had a problem.

Maybe I should run Treasury. Then again, I don't have much of a fall-away jumpshot anymore, and that's why Tax Dodgin' Timmy was picked in the first place, during one of O's pick-up games.

jeff is rewriting history based on falsehoods. Fact: Prior to labor unionization in this country, people worked 80 hour weeks in dangerous conditions including widespread exploitation of child labor as still practiced in China and India today. Fact: Our economy is 70% consumer spending. Fact: WWI decimated production around the world except the US, which along with becoming the planet's reserve currency, gave us a huge, temporary advantage. Fact: Like us, Japan has comparitively high labor costs. Fact: Without decent wages our economy will continue to collapse. Fact: Mutually beneficial Free Trade requires domestically captive capital and some other comparative advantage, but what we actually have is global capital flight and $2/hr labor competing against $20/hr labor. Only one side wins under these conditions, the one with absolute labor cost advantage. Thus China has become our largest creditor. Economic and labor statistics have firmly established our economic and jobs collapse during the last decade. They are one and the same thing.

You ever thought about going to a real CPA? I would imagine there are some tax savings out there that HR Block is looking over.

Hard to believe RiR doesn't use a CPA. I do. He's a tax attorney too. $250 for business and $200 for personal.

But, I'm a simpleton who told RiR the policies of the previous administration would cost us X amount of dollars in deficits and that we were digging a hole it'd be awfully hard to get out of. In reply, I heard 'it makes sense to borrow the money since interest rates are so low. We can pay it back as the economy grows..."

Meanwhile, $700 Billion in debt service payments a year, $150 in Medicare Part D, $230 Billion for 2 tax cuts, and on and on here we are with massive debt running massive deficits. Oh, but it's not (insert the "B" word) or Republicans fault.

You wonder why the city is a shit hole!

she had a hand in at least $69,500 in bribery and extortion payments

37 months for $69,500?

good thing she didn't have any weed on her... it could have been 37 years!

I was a CMA for years, and don't feel like training a CPA to do business that nobody knows better than I do.

Thanks for reinforcing in my own mind, though, that there is no defense for a Treasury Secretary to either cheat or screw up his own taxes. If he were a Republican, it would be DanniforthDoc Unity calling him "Tax-Dodgin' Timmy" at every opportunity. And not me.

The AP didn't mention Democrat it either.

What's wrong with this picture....

Good start...now if we could just imprison our DC Politicians for equal time....

Funny how small time local politicians get caught and do time, but in D.C. they either resign or just go about business as usual (on both sides of the aisle)...

Go figure...

Do you realize how this country became an economic powerhouse? It was our labor force's willingness to work for less-than their competition.

That's a pretty euphemistic way to describe slavery, JeffJ.
