Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Hundreds of construction union members joined political and industry leaders lining the plaza outside 7 World Trade Center Tuesday afternoon to demand that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Silverstein Properties negotiate an end to the stalemate over financing of SPI's planned towers at Ground Zero. "For too long, Ground Zero has been exhibit A for those who say you can no longer build big in New York," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.). "We need to prove them wrong."

"Alluding to a 2009 study conducted for the Port Authority which said that construction and leasing of the project's commercial components might not be finished until 2037..."

That's why they are dragging their feet. the PA doesn't want to build until they have all the properties leased, while Silverstein has been arguing "build it and they will come". Plus, some of the construction that Silverstein is responsible for can not begin until the PA finishes the subway hub. And around and around we go.

Yeah, let's blame it on the unions!

I generally don't like the argument, "build it and they will come". But in this instance, given the location at the heart of the world's financial district, I think the argument has a lot of truth to it. Both major and minor players want to be where the action is.

What do you mean 'blame it on the unions'????

Their doing a good thing here!

Partisan hack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely believe 'build it and they will come' in this instance as well Moder8.

I blame it on Rio. Otherwise Michael Caine would NEVER have slept with his best friend's daughter when his own was Demi Moore.

I get to look at that hole in the ground every weekend. Its beyond insulting that it isn't finished yet.

When they finish it, it's likely to be empty like the Dubai Tower.

I wonder if the building will come with explosives built in?

The city of NY should declare emminent domain and take the land and build their own damn buildings on it. Put a wal-mart supercenter on it.

Nothing will happen here because everyone involved is a thief. The unions, the PA, Silverstein, etc...

Rising sea levels from global warming will flood Manhattan soon anyway. In the meantime the hole would make a nice catfish pond.

Silverstein was the architect of 9/11. He bought the towers, realized that asbestos removal was too costly, took out a humongous insurance policy, and hired the Mossad to do the dirty work with the help of the CIA.

Follow the money.

glad to see that i am not the only one who finds it plausible that silverstein was in on it.

oh gee, there goes floor 103

oh my, the jews didn't die

oh dread, *splat*

Private Contractors in cahoots with Government AGAIN and MILKING IT for all its worth.

fuck the unions, build without those thieves

The Dubai Tower started construction after 9/11 and is already built.

The delay in rebuilding the WTC makes America look weak.

Be Well.

You forgot the part where Silverstein, a jew, got 19 Moslems and their al Qaida leadership, to co-operate with his plot.

No question he made a multi-billion dollar killing off the insurance claim. He might have even been aware of another plot, lord knows there was plenty of foreshadowing. But architect? Give me a fucking break.

Has no clue how much explosives it would take to bring down a tall building. Not something that is easily done with only a few people carrying a few bags with explosives ... like in the movies.

You forget digging out the mess. Replacing the subway lines. Working out the insurance. Working out the memorials. Working out the plans. Reworking the plans.

What about Dubai? Some relative of the arab dictator builds a tower in an empty sandbox. Big fucking deal.

Union demands it heh? Funny I didn't think they can demand someone give them work. Aren't they suppose to ask nicely?

As for the owner, why should he rebuild? Cause they 'demand' it?

Can the Union give us a cost benefit analysis please?

Its beyond insulting that it isn't finished yet.
