Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In Cameroon, some mothers "iron" their daughters' breasts to delay or prevent them from having sex. The procedure often involves grinding a very hot rock into the chest of the girl, but sometimes kerosene or hot plantain peels will do the trick. The practice, which permanently disfigures the girls, starts in adolescence because that's when girls start becoming attractive to boys.

And heaven forbid that anyone expect anything like self-restraint from the boys.

I'd never heard of the practice until I read about it in the Washington Post. But the story is all too familiar. Around the world, women girls have to pay the price for the barbarity of boys.

It's pretty bad--

In Cameroon not a majority-Muslim country, by the way an ob-gyn told Washington Post contributor Jamie Rich: "It's very rare to see a 13-year-old girl who is still a virgin." And that's why the mothers mutilate their daughters because boys can't be expected to keep it in their pants.

I'll agree with this premise--

Forgetting the question of decency and morality for a moment, there's the matter of national interests. Female equality seems to be a pretty reliable treatment for many of the world's worst pathologies. Population growth in the Third World tends to go down as female literacy goes up. Indeed, female empowerment might be the single best weapon in the "root causes" arsenal in the war on terror.

I'll agree with this premise--

So do I.

Would you also agree then, that a lack of female equality is not a problem exclusive to Muslims, but is also troublesome among many Christians?

I've writen it before here and I'll write it again: In the U.S./West we have a surplus of feminisn which should be exported to countries where they have a severe deficit.

Western feminists are useless and selfish. They'll get really excited when a pro-life George Bush is in the White House, and they'll work day and night to defeat him. But when it comes to absolute depravity and barbarity toward women a few hours' plane ride away, they're nowhere to be found. George Bush did more to advance the causes of women than anyone in modern times, but because he didn't pay lip service to things like pay equality, they don't give a damn.

Feminism lost their self-respect when they lined up behind Bill Clinton, simply because he was pro-choice. They're one-issue voters, and when it comes to true, horrific suffering of women in other parts of the world, they simply don't care.

Western feminists are useless and selfish.

RubeisRube calling someone else selfish. Priceless.

You tell me?

Are Christians ironing their daughters' breasts, doing genital mutilations, stoning women, depriving girls of education, covering themselves with a tarp??

And feminists do come off as hypocritical on issues that they should be totally united.

Like the rights for women in third world countries and the atrocities as outlined in these places.

They really don't have a clue.

But they (the groups) have an agenda--mainly having to do with abortion--delay the family and work--don't have children or you'll be a slave...burn your bra...

It is quite amazing that they --for the most part-- do not defend Palin--or any conservative woman.

And with Clinton--they should have had him for lunch--but because he is pro-abortion they stayed silent during the scandals with other women.

Same with Edwards--haven't heard a peep from these groups about this guy.

Would have to check their archives if they said anything about Sanford to find if they really are the hypocrites they are.

This is what the Church used to insert and expand in the vaginas of women who had miscarriages.

Called "The Pope's Pear"

And like the (supposed) modern day third world countries of today they are are employing Medeivel contraptions and treatment on women and girls.

Are they doing that now?

Not the Church.

But in these places they are doing far far worse.

You tell me?

Does it have to be that extreme for my statement to be true?

MURPHY

Yes, Christians are covering themselves with tarps in countries far and wide who would benefit from some of the riches the Catholic Church hangs onto as tightly as Rosary Beads.

Been to Central or South America, the most Catholic countries on Earth?

The poverty is breathtaking. Oh, but they can't use birth control beyond the rhythm method, can they?

Is the friggin Church running those places AU??

No they are not.

They are run by corrupt leaders.

But when the culture of a country allows mothers to IRON THE BREASTS OF THEIR OWN DAUGHTERS--let us know --ok?

And let us know if the Church is in on that action--OK!

And I am not here to stick up for the Church--but your manure is just too deep to ignore.

The Church could be doing the right thing teaching its members - who follow what the Church says to do to a "T" - about birth control.

They could be building decent places for their members to live.

The Church isn't. They're hanging onto their vast riches while teeming masses of people live in poverty and struggle day to day.

The Church could be doing the right thing teaching its members - who follow what the Church says to do to a "T" - about birth control.

Not necessarily. I know a lot of catholics who use birth control and don't try to pretend they don't. They think it's a non-issue and don't let it bother them at all. They may still be against abortion, but they have no issue with contraceptives.

Sure, here in the U.S.

Central and South America are an entirely different story.

You would be surprised to know that the Church in many of the poverty stricken places keeps those people alive from the very gov'ts that are trying to kill them.

How dare you compare what is outlined in this article with the Church!!

You want to compare birth control with genital mutilations??

Are you serious?

Go bleep yourself AU..

MURPHY

Go drive down to Tijuana and tell me how much the Catholic Church is helping the street urchins begging for enough money to feed their families.

Sorry, I think the Catholic Church's opposition to birth control is henious. Especially in countries where children born can only be expected to be born into a life of gut wrenching poverty.

One can only presume they want new members and could care less about the well being of them based on what I've seen in my life in Central and South America's slums.

On topic, read about these trinkets the Catholic Church used on women and men and tell us how any Christian has the right to feel 'holier than thou' in castigating those practices in other religions.

Of course, they're horrible, but where do you think they got the ideas from?

Catholic Church's Instruments of Torture and Mutilation

Oh, God forbid I should point out the hypocrisy of Christianity.

BTW, I'm not agreeing with the commentary on the linked page, just giving you some looks at the instruments of torture and mutilation the Catholic Church was fond of using. Tearing off women's breasts, vaginal mutilation, and a plethora of other horrible things.

How can anyone compare the church's anti-birth control policy to mutilation? Fucking crazy.

And you want to claim these poor people are following the teaching of the church so strongly that they won't use birth control... If they were that devout, then there are no out-of-wedlock births?

So maybe they pay lip service to the church and then still fuck like, well, little brown fucking machines.

Oh, and when feminist came out in support of calling Paula Jones "trailer trash" and didn't blow a gasket about lines like "drag a 20 through a trailer park and this is what you get"... they PROVED that it was party ahead of ANYTHING... even women being raped.

Wonder how many of the feminist organizations would vote for a pro-life dem over a pro-choice repub?

In other words, you're just attempting a little moral equivalence without any historical context.

What a sage.

AU--would you kindly get into the present day?

Or is that over your head?

Go on and point out the heinious things done in the 10th century.

How obtuse can you be?

Wonder how many of the feminist organizations would vote for a pro-life dem over a pro-choice repub?

None

Give AU a break.

When you think about it, specious comparisons like that are the very foundation of contemporary leftist "thought".

It's unfreakinbelievable!!

And what is truly amazing is to blame the Church for the corrupt governments.

Torquediaphragm

How can anyone compare the church's anti-birth control policy to mutilation? Fucking crazy.

I wasn't. Duh.

Who did? I said the policy of not allowing members to use birth control in Central and South America only leads to more poverty. That the Catholic church could and should use some of its vast wealth to get their own members out from under tarps in Latin American ghettos. Or did you forget that mention of putting people under tarps you made?

Go on and point out the heinious things done in the 10th century.

Much more recently than that. The only thing that stopped those practices was the Reformation Movement.

"How dare you compare what is outlined in this article with the Church!!"

"The Catholic Church is telling people in countries stricken by Aids not to use condoms because they have tiny holes in them through which HIV can pass - potentially exposing thousands of people to risk. The church is making the claims across four continents despite a widespread scientific consensus that condoms are impermeable to HIV."

www.guardian.co.uk

"Maputo Archbishop Francisco Chimoio claimed some anti-retroviral drugs were also infected "in order to finish quickly the African people".
"Condoms are not sure because I know that there are two countries in Europe, they are making condoms with the virus on purpose," he alleged, refusing to name the countries."

re: How can anyone compare the church's anti-birth control policy to mutilation? Fucking crazy.

It might be the impact of watching children starve to death, which leaves quite an impression.

re: So maybe they pay lip service to the church and then still fuck like, well, little brown fucking machines.

Did you really type that and hit "publish comment"?

It's amazing. There's an article up about Islamists throwing acid in the faces of girls, of mutilating their genitals, of attacking young women on the way to school.

And what do the libbies do, reflexively? Run up and say, "yes, but look at what Christians do!"

What a bunch of pussies. Nobody takes feminists seriously anymore, and we're headed that way with liberals. That's progress.

Especially in countries where children born can only be expected to be born into a life of gut wrenching poverty.

- Non-Americanunity

So, I guess it was just awful 200k years ago - HOW DID WE SURVIVE WITHOUT BIRTH CONTROL? How did children born in poverty make it? You evolutionists don't really believe that the minute the ape turned human it was in Manhattan do you? With two cars and a chicken in every pot?

If the parents want the children to be born there, who are you to infringe on their "reproductive rights" (TM-HERM)?

Comparisons of Catholic behavior centuries ago to what is happening today? Go hang out with donner, AU - you guys live in the same dream world when it comes to "reality".

There is no reality talking with some folks.

And Dan--some yahoo filed suit because the type of condom he used didn't prevent him from getting AIDS.

I think it was on 60 Minutes and had to do with 'lamb skin' condoms??

And what do the libbies do, reflexively? Run up and say, "yes, but look at what Christians do!"

Not only that but point to horrors they did 1,000 years ago!!

Try 300 years ago.

Sorry, I think the compassionate and pragmatic stance of the Catholic Church in light of the desperate poverty throughout Central and South America would be to hand out birth control and spend money building housing so their devout members don't have to sleep under tarps in the ghetto or send their kid out to beg for enough money to eat.

Anyone to the left of Rush Limbaugh is a 'liberal', eh? Funny, I voted for Lamar Alexander (R) for Senator. Just more of the 1988 "L word" BS.

The article isn't about the Catholic Church. But you chose to deflect away any criticism of these Muslim douchebags because . . . well, for some reason.

And I don't care. Have at it.
