GARFIELD COUNTY - Crews are getting back to work Tuesday morning, the day after a massive rockslide forced a 17-mile closure of Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon.
More than 250 tons of debris fell west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel just after midnight on Monday. The rockslide is said to be one of the largest in recent Colorado history.
The massive rocks punched two large holes in a westbound bridge and lanes. CDOT estimates one was about 10 feet long and 20 feet wide. CDOT spokeswoman Stacey Stegman says the rockslide also caused dozens of other holes and "dips" in the roadway. The largest rock is estimated to weigh 66 tons.
