I tried to trade my white Chatty Cathy doll for a black Chatty Cathy with a neighborhood friend - I had performed some dental work on my own (removed the teeth) and she hadn't so basically I just wanted to do her a favor. Of course, sensing my macabre intentions, she would not trade - and we remained friends for much of my childhood.

My 11 year old cousin wanted a ventriloquist's dummy for Christmas and it had to be a black one because "black people are cool" (other than this, he's pretty normal and asked for all sports equipment). His mother bought it for him too. Considering the family he's from, he surprisingly lacks the smartass gene so I doubt he's going to cause any incidents that will bring Reverend Al around. Not that I was particularly racist compared to other 11 year olds, but my mother would have found such a request highly suspicious.
