She was about 4-5 years old AU. It was back in the 60's and she was born in 1964. Plus you have no idea what hospitals were available back then and it may have been the closest place to go. To equate that with being against socialized medicine 40 years later is simply laughable.

It may have been the closest geographically, but when you add in the time they had to spend checking in with the Canadian Death Panel to make sure they weren't just throwing money away it would have been faster just to drive a coupla extra miles...
