New Zealand inventor Rudy Heeman has invented a vehicle that's a boat, a plane and a land vehicle. The vehicle, which he built by hand over a decade, can reach speeds of 45 mph.

Looks like a lot of fun!

Looks like all it needs are 2 seats instead of one.

looks kewl. More of a toy than a useful aircraft, but still looks like fun.

There is a flying car being built that will be more useful... but it is still a work in progress...

Looks like a really neat item there.

It brings back memories of reading my dad's Popular Mechanics magazines.

True... I still read mags like that... which is where I first found it. Guess I need to start saving my pennies... should be less than 200K when it rolls out.

How cool would that be? Course, have to wonder what the insurance rate would be if you drive it home from the airport.

If I was going to blow $200,000 on something, that'd be my choice instead of a racy car. Nothing beats flying. If I ever hit the lottery huge I'd probably buy a Honda Jet. Only about $4,000,000 and very economical to operate. Composite material construction. Roomy design for a small cabin, and lots of luggage space.

It's a Boat, It's a Plane, It's ....

One big honkin' disintegrating splash.

You can buy a really good copier, a top notch scanner, a great printer, and a good fax machine. Or you can buy a device that does all of those functions adequately.

It's a universal truth that machines that combine functions do so at the cost of performance. They cannot perform any specific function as well as a good quality machine that performs only that function.

"It's a universal truth that machines that combine functions do so at the cost of performance."

Take computers, for instance.

That looks FUN!

They need a roll bar or cage over the driver and passenger.

If one of these could be had for $15,000 I'd be first in line. What a lot of fun!!

i love inventors like that.........awesome

It's AWESOME!

It's a Boat, It's a Plane, It's...too confusing.

I'd like to have all three -- but separately.

I like my boats in a dock slip, my planes in a hanger, and my cars in a garage.

I've also found that to be true.

What do you think of this setup?

Economy jet for runs to the store, larger jet for whatever else:

(It's one of Travolta's pads)

What a skimpy little hanger. lol

You'd think if they could afford a large jet like the one in your photo, then they could afford to add on a few more feet and build a decent hanger.

Looks like they're only interested in protecting the jet's engine which is found in the nose portion. Maybe it's 'cause they're in a section of the country where it never gets cold enough for ice to form on the wings? In that case they wouldn't need a hanger covering the entire plane.

Oh. Just now saw your comment, AU, that those jets belong to Travolta. California weather! That explains why no need for a full hanger.

That's interesting. I used to take flying lessons, but the only thing fun was take off and landing. Up in the air was like driving a car.

I enjoyed more my time in the Air Force, when I could ride in lots of different aircraft. Best ever was the front seat of an F-15 trainer -- after that roller coasters were a bore.

I like my jet ski dancing the waves, my planes in the air and my cars on the road.

I also like my motorcycle on a winding, hilly road.

Geez, Chris! Sometimes you are such a girl!

But no wings, eh?

"Best ever was the front seat of an F-15 trainer..."

Other planes with wings (not including helicopters) include B-52, KC-135, KC-10, A-10 Warthog .. even the silly little OV-10 Bronco had wings

The Slow-V-10 Bronco (retired from NATO in 1983) is now part of the Philippine Air Force

I learned to fly in Col Sp. Lots of interesting things to look at, so it wasn't to boring.

I bet. Never got to fly in the military planes, but I did buzz a few mountain goats [pa 220]. My favorite of all times, however, was the stall-spin series. Good Lord, did that make roller coasters seam lame!

Spin/Stall ... lots of fun. Wheeeeeeeee!

It looks like an Oprah heavy flow pad.

But will geico insure it

I can't imagine ANYONE would insure a home-built amphibian flying car.

Still, looks like a kewl ride.

Course, if I hit the lotto today, I plan on buying something a little more... polished.

Damn, that will get me there quicker than my Firebird.

There are just so many ways to go with that Chrissy.

Worlds fastest cruising sailing yachts hands down the Dragonfly Trimaran... Best sailing there is.

It's the Bomb......

28 knots in a sailboat... That's just sickness...

Hmmm. Now you have me doing a little more thinking for when I hit the big lottery. I like the Honda Jet a lot. With only 1500 ft. of runway required your pick opens up a lot more airports. 8000' a minute climb rate? Wow. Maybe I'll just get both. LOL

Tax him 79% on the sale.

That will encourage others to invent something too.
