Doctors in the Iraqi city of Fallujah are reporting a high level of birth defects, with some blaming weapons used by the US after the Iraq invasion. The city witnessed fierce fighting in 2004 as US forces carried out a major offensive against insurgents. Based on data from January this year, the rate of congenital heart defects was 95 per 1,000 births -- 13 times the rate found in Europe.

So that's where Saddam buried his weapons of mass destruction. In the water wells.

Thank god we shit away a chance to bring Bin Laden to justice and create a sustainable economy based on renewable resources instead of an increased dependence on oil from the people that flew the planes into the WTC and Pentagon. Great job GW! Awesome show!

Depleted Uranium will make some parts of Iraq inhabitable for generations to come.

Depleted Uranium is already in the upper atmosphere. We will all feel the effects soon enough.

When a projectile hits a target, 70% of its depleted uranium burns and oxidizes, bursting into highly toxic, radioactive micro particles. Being so tiny, these particles can be ingested or inhaled after being deposited on the ground or carried kilometres away by the wind, the food chain or water. A 1995 technical report issued by the American Army indicates that "if depleted uranium enters the body, it has the potentiality of causing serious medical consequences. The associated risk is both chemical and radiological". Deposited in the lungs or kidneys, uranium 238 and products from its decay (thorium 234, protactinium and other uranium isotopes) give off alpha and beta radiations which cause cell death and genetic mutations causing cancer in exposed individuals and genetic abnormalities in their descendents.

DU is a waste product of the nuclear industry and is being stored in vast compounds. It is given free of charge to weapons manufacturers and why not! DU combined with other heavy metals does the job extremely well, but at what cost? Tunnel vision by Heads of State, Senior Government Members, Senior Members of the Military, Scientist, Senior Medical staff and the CEO of companies that manufacture such weapons is deplorable.

They have no ability to look at the bigger picture whereby as a result of their actions the earth's atmosphere is being polluted with very high levels of DU since the onslaught of these weapons (some of which date back to the 1970's). They have no concern or intent to investigate the high rate of mortality, increased rise in levels of cancer related illnesses and deaths. The most deplorable aspect in the continued exculpation is the birth of still born or badly disfigured babies.

As sad as the story is, it a no-brainer. Do we honestly think bush, obama did not realize what they were doing before hand, not to mention the constant warning of international human rights organizations?

Eugenics/De-Population: With all the other angles expressing the same conclusion, along with clear evidence of agendas of empirical domination and fake environmentalism leading to global governance and eugenics is the pervasive agenda.

Fallujah Doctors Report Rise in Birth Defects , They are all being born Caucasian.

LOL

it a no-brainer

The solution or the kids?

Both!

"Birth Defecrts" in the backward Islamic World would have to be an improvement.

Smother the earth with spent uranium. First Iraq, then the planet, money first, people aren't even a consideration, especially Arabs.

Not to deflect from the bashing of bush, the military, the war or "ebil repubs" that is the mantra of the dr lefties, but...

I remember hearing that the Iraqi army dumped chemical weapons into the river when they were ordered to use them... wonder if that would account for any of the defects?

I also know that lots of building [and cars] have been blown-up... wonder if they contained things like asbestos or other toxic chemicals?

What about health care in general? If women are getting better care now, perhaps babies that would have aborted naturally are being brought to term?

I wonder if anyone, UN organization or whatever, has attempted to detect trace amounts of DU in the air/water?

While I have heard back-n-forth on the yellow-cake issue (now the US says no, but UK still says yes)... can a test determine spent from unprocessed uranium?

What is the possibility that some other entity, such as Iran, would smuggle in spent uranium to foster ill-will towards the US?

And, as a final question for this post, if there is some environmental factor causing birth defects, and if this is from something like DU, is there a way to clean it up?

Increased birth defects in Iraq?

No shiat, Spud's been talking about this for a while now.

Depleted Uranium by the hundreds of thousands of tons will tend to achieve these type of evil results.

But hey, it allows America to get rid of it's nuclear waste by dumping it on a nation fulla brown people so by GOP standards it's all good.

Be Well.

"I remember hearing the Iraqi Army dropped chemcial weapons into the river rather than use them...."

Do you remember hearing they dumped their nuclear warheads into the river, too?

1libertarian is really stretching hard to obscure responsibility.

Can you sort sand particles? Depleted Uranium is used as armor piercing ammunition (its denser and cheaper than lead). When it hits the target it vaporizes as it blows a hole through steel. Next come the sand storms. Iraqis must breath that toxic dust. Try to find it if you can. Its going to be their problem for at least the next 10,000 years.

Do we honestly think bush, obama did not realize what they were doing before hand

Do tell us how Obama voted for the war when he wasn't elected to the Senate until 2004.

Depleted means it's not more harmful than natural residual radiation.

I wonder what Iran is doing with their uranium? Iraq is downwind from Iran, after all.

"Depleted means it's not more harmful than natural residual radiation."

Wrong....

Depleted is just a nice sounding word they give it so it doesn't sound so bad.
It's still uranium.
See my above link,

A 1995 technical report issued by the American Army indicates that "if depleted uranium enters the body, it has the potentiality of causing serious medical consequences. Ever hear of Gulf War Syndrom?

Recent studies have shown a correlation between environmental pollutants and increased risk of selected congenital malformations.

The higher prevalence of congenital heart disease is unlikely to be due to genetic factors, An environmental factor, therefore, seems more likely to be responsible for the increased predisposition to congenital heart disease in that area.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Too much led and Depleted Uranium in the environment maybe? But Wait a minute... There was a lot of shooting Throughout Iraq... Is the rate also climbing in Baghdad? It could be stress related... Plenty of that going around...

Fallujah was a center stronghold for the nasty blue meanies.... Maybe they had some stuff that got spread around in explosions.. I thought I read that they were remnants of Saddam's supporters... Seems odd that the rate would only climb here... We shot up a lot of places with the same ordnance...

Truth be told, I'd be surprised if the rates weren't climbing everywhere in Iraq.

1libertarian is really stretching hard to obscure responsibility.

Nutz, It was only a matter of 'what'. Not trying to deny or deflect 'blame'... only obtain information.

Can you sort sand particles?

Probably not, the whole fucking country is mostly sand. LOL. [yes, I know this was not a serious question]

Depleted Uranium is used as armor piercing ammunition (its denser and cheaper than lead). When it hits the target it vaporizes as it blows a hole through steel.

True, which are the reasons we use it. It works. DU is used on anti-tank rounds, and maybe some bunker-busters. Not used in normal bombs, however. Right? Also don't believe it is used in cruise missiles.

Still, you failed to follow the simple question of CAUSE and effect. You have the fact that we used some [unknown number] of DU rounds. Is that the ONLY factor that could cause the birth defects? I would hate to spend time and energy working to clean up these rounds, only to discover that the cause was chemicals buried underground that were leaking or biologicals / chemicals that had been dumped into the water supplies. Heck, it might even be something like asbestos from the bombed-out buildings [still caused by the war -- but not DU related]. Don't we have fire fighters and such in NYC that have similar symptoms of gulf war syndrome? Could burning jet fuel and exploding buildings be a part of the problem?

First find the cause, then find a solution, then figure out WHO is responsible.
