"The Obama administration is urging a House panel not to offend Turkey by declaring that the Ottoman-era killing of Armenians was genocide. But the committee chairman pressed ahead Thursday.

The administration stepped in despite a campaign promise by President Barack Obama to brand as genocide the killing of as many as 1.5 million Armenians by Ottoman Turks. The vote by the congressional committee could alienate Turkey, which plays an important role for U.S. interests in the Middle East and Afghanistan."

Spend an hour in Glendale (CA) and tell me about "Armenian genocide".

Well, Letus, just because it wasn't completely successful.....

You cannot purposely wipe out 1.5 million Armenians and call it anything BUT genocide! First Bush and now Obama - GROW A SET AND CALL THIS WHAT IT WAS!

Well, nanc... you and I are on the same page on this one.

This was a planned genocidal campaign by the Turkish government for one very simple reason. Armenians are decidedly Christian. Turks are Muslim. End of story.

And why oh why does America help Turkey perpetuate the myth that this genocide never occurred? Hey, Obama, the Cold War is over. Who the hell cares where our missile defense system is in Europe. Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) between super powers has been in place for decades. OK, so Turkey is a friend of the United States, is that worth selling your collective soul for? As long as America backs the Turks on this, the Turks will never admit they wiped out a productive people over religious differences, just like the US wiped out the American Indian through Manifest Destiny. But at least we owed up to it. It's time the Turkish government and its people took a long look in the mirror to see if they like what's looking back at them.

Zombie - I knew you were good people!

...one of my favorite lines from "The Survivors"...

This was a planned genocidal campaign by the German government for one very simple reason. Jews are decidedly jewish. Germans are Christian. End of story.

This was a planned genocidal campaign by the Yugoslavian government for one very simple reason. Serbs are decidedly Christian. Kosovarians are Muslim. End of story.

This was a planned genocidal campaign by the American government for one very simple reason. Americans are decidedly Christian. Natives are anamist. End of story.

Had a psych prof who always used Turks when he wanted to illustrate a bad person. Guess he was Armenian. But it is time to call a spade a spade and say it was genocide. That and the Japanese actions in China before and during WW2.

You forgot Darfur. Pinochet. Stalin.

Same story different day.

technically turkey was the ottoman empire back then... a completely different government.

does ukraine have to own up to the ussr's genocides?

i still however don't see it as a big deal to still admit it.. say you did it... you get the german style hardcore status.

KLIFFERD

I don't understand Turkey's position on this. They've made it illegal to even refer to the genocide. Turks committed it. They should just own up to it and be done with the matter.

Hell, Kliff, we still get all weepy over the "Trail of Tears". Why are Muslims such pussies?

I disagree - the Middle East is simultaneously in a cold war while being invaded.

Doesn't this timing seem odd? Just last week we have 50 generals arrested for planning anti-Muslim false-flag murders and now an "official" version of pro-Muslim/anti-Christian history.

President Obama is treading on ridiculous ground, but it's not unlikely that the United States will capitulate under the current circumstances developing in Turkey.

Plus, Turkey did not initially want the United States to land in Turkey during the Iraq invasion.. I'm guessing they were probably promised something regarding oil.
