Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

"When you strip away all of the rage, all of the nonsensical loud noises and all of the contradictions, all that's left is race," writes Bob Cesca. "The tea party is almost entirely about race, and there's no comparative group on the left that's similarly motivated by bigotry, ignorance and racial hatred."

Cesca opines:

"In the final analysis, when you boil away all of the weirdness, it becomes clear that the teabaggers are pissed because there isn't yet another doddering old white guy in the White House -- like they're used to. That's what this is all about."

When all else fails, claim racism. How low will the dems people stoop?

Cesca is a fricking idiot.

www.drudge.com

Doh! Doc did it again!! LOL. Peppermint schnapps does NOT make a good breakfast.

Cesca is a white guy.

How many times do leftists baselessly over-play the race-card until liberals begin to roll their eyes?

This is a joke.

"All about race" is a gross oversimplification of the Tea Party phenomenon.

There is a real groundswell of discontent with DC based on legitimate grievances that has been growing for decades . One that cuts across party lines. The original anti-tax movement that became the TPers was started by Ron Paul and was then high-jacked by a bunch of different agendas and the GOP, who, through their media arms on FOX and RW radio tried to co-opt them.

Racism is definitely a component of the TP movement as it exists right now but it is not the basis of the movement.

Be Well.

Spud,

You're stuff is pretty good today.

It must be a euphoric-high over that incredible olympic hockey win.

What a great game that was, despite the outcome.

You're stuff is pretty good today.

This is Spud with sufficient rem sleep behind him, sufficient caffeine levels within him and a new "less in more" philosophy regarding THC levels.

Tommorow Spud'll prolly be back to being a sleep deprived, coffee needing pothead seeing aztec temple and shiat so enjoy it while you can!

It must be a euphoric-high over that incredible olympic hockey win.

Is it that obvious? ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

What a great game that was, despite the outcome.

It was a dead brill game.

Oddly enuff, Spud's a little cheerier about the outcome than you fer some reason.

;>)

Canucks are looking good fer the post season as well.

Just looking fer some last minute trades to go through.

Seriously need some more D.

Be Well.

"less is more".

Off fer more coffee now.

Levels must be down.

Be Well.

as if black people paid taxes!

Spud,

The intensity in that game possibly exceeded the intenstity of a game-7 Stanley Cup final game.

If that's possible.

PS - the intensity was the same for the first go-round when the US beat yer Canucks.

Great hockey accross-the-board!

PPS - I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Any sport that is so intense that 60 seconds of playing-time is exhausting for the most well-conditioned athletes in the world...that having superstars on the ice for 'half' of the game is almost unheard-of...AND that for the most part these athletes not only make themselves available to the press DURING game-time coupled with their amazing sense of humility....Add to that the honor-code and the 'culture' of hockey-fights (it's not WWF garbage)....

This sport deserves better recognition.

The NHL is in part to blame.

They do a shitty-job of promoting their product and when they do promotion they put ALL of their eggs into 1 basket - Sidney Crosby. He's a tremendous athlete, but he's arrogant as hell. Jarome Iginla, Rich Nash, Nick Lidstrom and Alex Ovechkin are FAR better spokespersons for the game IMO.

Peppermint schnapps does NOT make a good breakfast.

Write that down in the little book your auntie gave you for Valentine's Day, right next to "Lesson 132: Performing the Dance of the Flaming Arseholes is dangerous."

As Cesca points out:

From the outset, the tea party was based on a contradictory premise (the original tea party was a protest against a corporate tax cut). And when you throw out all of the nonsense and contradictions, there's nothing left except race. There's no other way to explain why these people were silent and compliant for so long, and only decided to collectively freak out when this "foreign" and "exotic" president came along and, right out of the chute, passed the largest middle class tax cut in American history -- something they would otherwise support, for goodness sake, it was $288 billion in tax cuts! -- we're left to deduce no other motive but the ugly one that lurks just beneath the pale flesh, the tri-corner hats and the dangly tea bag ornamentation.

No mysteries, really:

Irrespective of whether the president passed a huge tax cut or went out of his way to bring Republicans into the health care process [Cesca writes], the seeds of racial animosity from the far-right were sown during the campaign. In those lines waiting for then-vice presidential candidate and current tea party heroine Sarah Palin, their loud noises spread the pre-scripted lies, lies that entirely hinged on the president's African heritage. A white candidate would never be accused of being a secret Muslim. A white candidate would never be accused of being a foreign usurper. Only a black candidate with a foreign name would be accused of "palling around with domestic terrorists."

The intensity in that game possibly exceeded the intenstity of a game-7 Stanley Cup final game.

If that's possible.

Agreed.

PS - the intensity was the same for the first go-round when the US beat yer Canucks.

That first US/CDN game was the single most watched sporting event in Canadian history.

The second game was the most watched event in Candian television history EVAR.

In the US that last game was the biggest audience for a hockey game since the "miracle on ice".

This sport deserves better recognition.

The NHL is in part to blame.

Also agreed.

Can't agree that Sid the Kid makes a bad spokesman though.

His arrogance is partially his due cos of his great play and partially his believing too much in his own press clippings.

Gretzy was called "The Great One" and Sid was called "The Next One" that's some high expectations to live up to.

That noted, Overchkin et al are good publc faces for the NHL as well.

Be Well.

Spud,

Sid the Kid is a very fine spokesman.

I just think the NHL makes a mistake by making him the 'face' of their sport. The NBA does a fantastic job of touting 6, or so, superstars. The NHL should consider the same thing. Ovechkin is an amazingly dynamic player. He truly is the next Gordie Howe. That he's so overlooked in favor of Crosby is just stupid. Now, I am biased here, but the NHL possibly has the best defenseman of all-time in Nick Lidstrom - a guy who exudes class and took over captainship from Yzerman (big shoes to say the least) and the NHL doesn't promote him, for the most part.

It's a big league. Guys like Lidstrom, Nash, Ovechkin, Getzlaf, Brodeur, et al should be trumpetted - it's good for the sport.

I think the Ron Paul loving, original Tea Partiers did not have any racial motives for their organizations but when Obama was elected a new breed of Tea Partier took over that brand name. I think you could almost just substitute Dixiecrat for that group. Though most are probably too young to have actually been Dixiecrats I believe most would have supported them had they been old enough at the time. I'm also pretty sure that most of their parents did.

Ovechkin is an amazingly dynamic player. He truly is the next Gordie Howe.

Spud would rate him as being quite possibly the best player in the game, atm.

The NHL's inability to market it's own product successfully is legendary by this point.

MegaFAIL.

Be Well.

Very sensitive righties here this morning. Have to assume they find Cesca's racism allegation (a) coming in too close to the mark, (b) as offensive as some of us found "traitor" to be during the George "Forget Me Not" Bush, or (c) a and b.

Jeff, Spud,

I'd say that one of the things that makes it difficult for hockey to be popular is that its an expensive sport to play at the amateur level so not very many people can look at a game and see themselves in the athletes position the way they can with most other sports.

Plus you have to allow yourself to look ridiculous as you learn to skate well enough just to begin to play. There's a bit of an ego barrier I think. That's it for my hockey opinion. End hijack.

Tea partiers are bigots at heart and so is most of the republican party. 99% of the posters here who are conservatives are bigots. They won't admit it but they hate minorities.

Most of them seem to be afraid...very afraid.
I'd encourage them to look under their beds.
Sooprise! No monsters!

Sten I am a union member and it isn't like that at all. We are all equal union brothers and sisters. I will say that admitting you are a republican won't be tolerated. Prepare to have your home or car vandalized if you do and possibly worse.

"I'd encourage them to look under their beds.
Sooprise! No monsters!"

I suspect that's 'cause they're all in D.C. now.

"It sounds like union members use very similar intimidation tactics as gangs in the inner city."

Hmmmm...and I think that idiot in post#29 has confirmed what you just said.

Sten the Union does not actively discriminate against blacks. If you are qualified and successfully complete your apprenticeship you can join. Thanks to the Union I got a raise this week!! Woohoo.

Sten I invite you to my job and you can see the minorities. Just don't admit you are a republican or anti-union.

MSNBC is all about race.
or do they only let people of color take out the garbage?

interesting link here as to race and the democrat party. I have read local and state reports that this link is right on when it comes to dems and kay bailey's replacement.
a black republican is the LAST THING dems want in the senate...

The link is to a story titled "GOP Does Not Want A Black Man In The Senate"

LOL

What a joke. This guy is a freakin ignoramus.

methinks that one or both of you needs to read the whole thing such as the line about the headline is sarcasm....
JUST SAYING.........

I don't agree with Cesca's assessment, I think it's too simple-minded, much in the same way as Garofalo's commentary.

However, when we see things like this:
washingtonindependent.com

...it does give weight to the accusation.

Frankly,
The people that I know that are involved with the Tea Party movement aren't racists. They are just sick and tired of Washington politics and policies. It just has come to a head under Obama.

Some of the most outspoken tea party people I've spoken to voted for Obama, expecting him to bring "change" to Washington. And they've feel that they were lied to and are the most disappointed and disillusioned group I know.

Others just feel that they've gotten to that "last straw" and are equally pissed.

A BUNCH of those I talked to joined the tea partiers because they felt that neither side was "for them" and just joined for that sense of belonging.

Yes, there were the fringe people there. But overall, they seemed like just a bunch of folks, of ALL races. I didn't take a census, but I saw a mix of black, white, hispanic and asian. Clustered? Somewhat. But definitely interaction between the groups and commonality in their concerns about where the US was headed as a country.

He says it, so it must be so?

Do they talk less negro now? How funny can you get? Are blacks, who back obama by over 90% racists?

The left is obsessed with race. "A nation, er, a party of cowards" Eric Holder

teabaggers are pissed because there isn't yet another doddering old white guy in the White House -- like they're used to. That's what this is all about."
