(CNN) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked southern Taiwan on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of deaths or serious injuries.

Taiwan's interior ministry reported 11 minor injuries.

The quake struck at about 8:20 a.m. (7:20 p.m. Wednesday ET) in a mountainous region about 25 miles northwest of Taitung, on the southeast coast, and 40 miles east of Tainan and Kaohsiung on the southwest coast.

All these earthquakes are G_d's punishment for Obama's attempt at health insurance reform. Everyone knows G_d is a majority stockholder in Aetna.

I was on a train and didn't feel it, but my wife says our apartment building swayed back and forth.

Taiwan is built for earthquakes; typical building has 16-inch walls of steel and concrete.

Taiwan typically has an earthquake every few weeks -- good because it takes off the stress; big quakes here have been devastrating

Good to hear you're OK, since I did't know if you were near Kaohsiung or Tainan.

I agree about relieving the tectonic stress. BTW, I just missed the 1999 quake, but did experience a small (~4 ?) quake while working in Taichung a few years ago. It was my first "real quake" and it felt like a noiseless large truck slowly rumbling past. I didn't realize it was a quake until a co-worker (local guy) told me. My other 'quake' was feeling a slight tremble while doing geophysical work near Death Valley. Turns out it was "just" an underground nuclear test in nearby Nevada.

Vernm on a train? More like a train being pulled on Verm.

A buddy of mine who works for Microsoft is at some Tech conference in Taiwan. He says he didn't feel it either.
