There's been a sharp drop in the percentage of America's children being bullied or beaten up by their peers, according to a new national survey by experts who believe anti-bullying programs are having an impact.

That and the Columbine-style massacres.

why this MSNBC story? The propaganda: Typical physical violence is down thanks to the great job done by federal policies like "zero-tolerance" making a prison atmosphere at schools. But Cyberbullying is way up. We must solve this problem now with draconian new legislation.

Can I take that as an affirmation on the viewpoint?

Truth, your link is not valid.

That's because 101 is in time-out...

Bullying is a problem, but it is, after all, part of growing up.

Cyberbullying is way up.

Why haven't you you killed yourself yet, you smegma-lipped cretin?

I was always small for my age so kids would think I was an easy target unless I showed them otherwise. My grandmother explained to me that you don't have to win a fight to prove your point. You just have fight back hard enough that they realize messing with you is not worth it. She also taught me that there's nothing wrong with hitting a bigger kid first and then running like hell if he's picking on you. :) Being bulllied can build character. Of course, I went to school with some kids who were such a persistent target that their lives were miserable and if they would have shot someone, I could hardly have blamed them. But learning to stick up for yourself reasonably is an important life lesson.

That said, when my parents moved and I had to go to a new school, I decided it would be easier to make big friends than to start over with the bullies. I just found the kid everyone else was scared of... We're still friends. All thanks to bullies.

I locked a kid in a tuba locker once.

My tuba got bent because some douchebag stuck a kid in my locker.

Hey, brainless. You just cyber-bullied me, according to proposed legislation. It had stalled, but with the current political hyper-propaganda as of late, it's very likely it will be re-pushed.

Don't you love it when your own words destroy yourself [prove the point against yourself]like has happened so often before? Bask in your perceived credibility. It only goes down from here.

He probably never messed with you and the other flutists again...

The success of this anti-bullying program is encoraging. Maybe for a few hundred billion more libs could come up with a program to teach kids to not shit in their pants. You cannot have too many wonderful lib programs.

We talk about it. I always point out the bully is taller, bigger, and/or part of a group In other words, a coward. Also desperate...somewhere along the line something is wrong with the bully.

Pupils aged five on hate register: Teachers must log playground taunts for Government database

Ryan Kisiel and Steve Doughty
UK Daily Mail
March 4, 2010

Heads will be forced to list children as young as five on school hate registers' over everyday playground insults.

Even minor incidents must be recorded as examples of serious bullying and details kept on a database until the pupil leaves secondary school.

Teachers are to be told that even if a primary school child uses homophobic or racist words without knowing their meaning, simply teaching them such words are hurtful and inappropriate is not enough.

Instead the incident has to be recorded and his or her behaviour monitored for future signs of hate' bullying.

The accusations will also be recorded in databases held by councils and made available to Whitehall and ministers to help them devise future anti-bullying campaigns.

I am going to call a great big bullshit on this. The human animal is an interesting one. Most are cattle and easily manipulated by the strong (Bullies). Most kids by nature identify the weakness/difference and avoid it or go after it. They don't want to be the singled out ones so even if they don't agree they will do nothing. You will see the oddball kids group together. The weakest of the weak or most different have a way of attracting negative energy from most if not all kids.

There just is no way the they are changing the nature of children. Besides that there are ways other then physical intimidation to bully. Even by addressing the bully issue does not mean the kids are not crafty enough to find new, different and "quiet" ways of doing it.

Whoa, you need to direct your name calling elsewhere. I specifically told that kid to be careful with the equipment in the locker. If you want, to make amends, I'll trap him in a closet.

I think Columbine is the real reason.

Kids today don't know of Columbine except as "history" and it isn't real for them.

Maybe more bullies are being hired before they graduate middle school by SEIU.....

We loved tormenting bullies in school. It was like fishing at the fish market.
