Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs.

I guess if you think sitting in a puddle of your own urine for hours at a time proclaiming victimhood on anonymous blogs is 'smarter', then yes, you would have an argument.

Ah, Hell Cook, let 'em enjoy their follow-the-herd jerk-off session

Lemmings also follow the herd

We has this asinine and misleading thread up already.

Remember, IQ is not that great of an indicator.

Whether one has a high IQ or a low IQ, they can still be wrong, either brilliantly or idiotically so.

I would never claim to be smarter than conservatives but I was not dumb enough to vote for George Bush.

That part of the mimeographed invitation -- by the way, we were surprised you hadn't consumed all of the machine's ink by now -- to your April 5 Taiwan Tomb Sweeping Day Gangbangers Bar-B-Q, Juke Joint Jamboree & Small Animal Judging Competeition is understood. Yet the question remains: What's for desert?

Did they average in the hordes of inner city libbies that voted Obama?

All right, now I'm crushed. Why haven't I received an invitation to the April 5 event? If there is really gonna be a gangbang I wanna attend.

Well, our little leftist-socialist friends are smart enough to get some cash when the dumb conservatives are left out...this proves it.

Newsworthy, Exp.

And dayamed funny, Danni!

If they are so smart, why do they listen to Paul Volker?

Nanc pulls down the average for conservatives.

I have ideas that benefit America all you have is regurgitated talking points.

I have ideas that benefit America

not really. but obviously you don't know that so it doesn't matter really.

it's really weak to accuse me of regurgitating talking points when I obviously don't do that.

Whenever you post you sound like one of Glen Beck's many minions.

duh...someone tells me hows I gets on this here sites and say somethin bouts this..

I...jest dont knows whats to say bout tis here subject.....

"on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs."

Tough to establish some sort of causal relationship here, though.

I'd go along with the idea that "liberals" may tend to be more intellectually curious than "conservatives", but not necessarily, and that doesn't mean "smarter".

Anyone think Garofalo is smarter than Buckley?
Nah, didn't think so.

I've known many a pig-headed liberal and many a curious conservative.
Much more the other way around, though.

"Intellectual brilliance is no guarantee against being dead wrong."

and I had a prof that I really liked who was real smart too...so then why did he not know how to change the oil in his car?

so do others here want some college prof working on thier car breaks....

"...so do others here want some college prof working on thier car breaks...."

A contribution from the right's intellectual A-list. herm

My Republican cousin told me a few years back that a study was done that proves "conservatives" are smarter. I'm sure it claimed to have done just that.

Personally, I think subscribing to any political school of thought as being 100% right and true is stupid no matter what that school is. But from my own experience, "conservatives" are generally not conservative and more likely to be ignorant while "liberals" are generally not very liberal and more likely to engage in what I call negative intelligence - which is claiming to believe stuff that is easily proven untrue and thinking this makes them some kind of deep thinker despite the obvious lack of thought behind their claims.

"...'liberals' are generally not very liberal and more likely to engage in what I call negative intelligence - which is claiming to believe stuff that is easily proven untrue..."

THIS kind of negative intelligence leads to creationism in the classroom, which will destroy the nation, and denial of global warming, which will destroy the world. herm

"THIS kind of negative intelligence leads to creationism in the classroom, which will destroy the nation, and denial of global warming, which will destroy the world. herm"

No, that's more ignorance. Evolution and global warming are not intuitive/common sense/easily demonstrated theories. You can't even technically call them facts.

A common example of "negative intelligence" is a claim like "We invaded Iraq for no reason because we just sent dark skinned people we don't care about...", when the easily proven fact is that most of the people we have over there are white. (Note: this is not an endorsement of the war, just a criticism of making mindless claims). The more unthinkingly into the leftwing you go, the dumber your statements have to be. So we get shit like "Israelis are exactly like the Nazis" and it can devolve all the way into "All sex is rape." The more pretentious your circle, the more obviously factually incorrect you have to be in order to be lauded as a genius.

Hey Sully, how about, "rape is not about sex, it is only about power, rage, and violence"... in the form of sex.

I mean, who in the world things that rape involves sex to any degree. They would definitely have a low IQ

"A common example of "negative intelligence" is a claim like "We invaded Iraq for no reason because we just sent dark skinned people we don't care about..."

I've never heard that claim. Perhaps you have.
Although, frankly, I would call that "negative intelligence". Negative, yes, but not intelligence, although I'll grant your point.

"The more unthinkingly into the leftwing you go..."

I wouldn't call the examples you give "leftwing".
Unthinking, certainly.
I'd say the more unthinking in any direction whatsoever you go, you end up with crap like that.

And yes, much of that crap ends up on places like the Retort, hehe.

In any case, the kinds of examples you give are cases where people feel an emotional need to believe something is true.
While there may be some commonality between certain beliefs and certain political leanings, the beliefs themselves aren't really political, they're emotional.

Although, frankly, I would call that "negative intelligence"

Of course, that should be "would NOT"

I don't know Tom, now that you put "NOT" in there Sully might consider that as negative intelligence.

You better be careful.

"I've never heard that claim. Perhaps you have."

On this site.

"I wouldn't call the examples you give "leftwing"."

Its all stuff I've heard from self-described "liberals" (who are actually strictly regimented in their beliefs). The last comment was from a famous feminist who was considered brilliant for saying the dumbest shit imaginable.

You have a point though in that this stuff isn't typical liberal beliefs. I was just trying to say certain liberals engage in this behavior more often because they hang out in circles where it is considered edgy and deep..

"Although, frankly, I would call that "negative intelligence". Negative, yes, but not intelligence, although I'll grant your point."

I call it negative intelligence because people are using their brains to come up with the opposite conclusion of what the facts support - and purposefully so - in an attempt to be thought of as "deep" for contradicting the conventional wisdom.

"In any case, the kinds of examples you give are cases where people feel an emotional need to believe something is true."

No doubt this is true sometimes. But I would say that often they don't have an emotional attachment to what they are saying at all. They just seem to think that saying something ridiculous sounds smart. They don't really give a shit about the people they are saying it about.

Anyway, I wasn't trying to apply this generally to anyone who says they are "liberal". Just like I wasn't trying to say all "cons" are ignorant. This is just an annoying phenomenom I've noticed and this site is a good place to find examples.

"But I would say that often they don't have an emotional attachment to what they are saying at all. They just seem to think that saying something ridiculous sounds smart"

Ah, that may be a better way to say it. The attachment is to "sounding smart" or "being right".

"The last comment was from a famous feminist who was considered brilliant for saying the dumbest shit imaginable."

Yeah, I don't think Dworkin is representative of "liberalism", per se.
Of whackjobbery, yes. It was Dworkin, wasn't it?

"Anyway, I wasn't trying to apply this generally to anyone who says they are "liberal". Just like I wasn't trying to say all "cons" are ignorant. This is just an annoying phenomenom I've noticed and this site is a good place to find examples."

Agreed. But, there IS entertainment value, no?

Nothing can be more negative or less intelligent than the negative intelligence that producd "self-described 'liberals' (who are actually strictly regimented in their beliefs). That one wins the Black Is White Award. herm

You want to attend Vermin's "Taiwan Tomb Sweeping Day Gangbangers Bar-B-Q, Juke Joint Jamboree & Small Animal Judging Competeition"? God knows there's plenty of room in the vacant lot abutting his hooch. (The proprietors of the Suk Goo Pig Processing & Rendering Plant insist on at least one lot's remove from Vermin's digs as a guarantee against declining property values.) May I suggest you read the small print to find out whether Vermin's going this year as a gangbanger or a gangbangee?

"That one wins the Black Is White Award. herm"

You're not capable of understanding what I'm talking about. You're more a cliche than a person.
