Democrat Jerry Brown has entered the race for California governor, an office he held from 1975 to 1983. Currently state attorney general, Brown officially declared his candidacy on his web site Tuesday. "These are really serious times, but our state is still the best place on earth to live and to raise a family," said Brown. "By making the tough decisions now, we can get through this crisis leaner and more efficient, poised for a comeback that will lead to a whole new period of prosperity."

Maybe they can bring back Linda Ronstadt too...

How about Rose Bird??

Uggh!

NY gets Madam's for candidates and we get rehash from over 20 years ago.

BTW--the reason he gets to run again is becuase it is after they voted for term limits.

L:ttle does Brown realize is that his terms were part of the reason to vote for term limits.

But he has to run for something--he's run out of gov't jobs ...

He may well win. Don't know if that is good news or bad news.

He's vastly superior to that dumbshit, Meg Whitman.

Been there, done that. Did he do well the first time?

CALIFORNIA UBER ALLES!!!

It'll be interesting to see how Brown dances around the Tax and Regulate Cannabis initiative, which will be on the same ballot.

DO you think he would try and dance around it, or embrace it?

It's going to pass--it's a moot point.

Don't know, Kanrei. His record on cannabis is pretty good. He supported decriminalization, he was Mayor of Oakland, home of Oaksterdam. As attorney general he's issued some favorable guidelines. Probably too risky politically though.

The hard part for him will be trying to shed that "Crazy Jerry Brown" title that stuck so well during his last Presidential run.

Once it passes in California, the "genie will be out of the bottle," and it will only be a matter of time for the rest of the nation.

LA is already preparing for the passage.

Setting up licenses and regulating and taxes--the State loves the tax potential.

And I would like to see the cartels go out of business.

It's going to pass--it's a moot point.

Given your record of bad prognostication, Murphy, I predict it will lose.

Until California finds Christ, the devil will reside there.

Channeling Takitez?

I wonder what happened to him. Maybe he's dead of snakebite... an occupational hazard for the crazy pentecostal types.

And I would like to see the cartels go out of business.

From what I remember of Jerry Brown's Governorship, it wasn't that bad. The congress and other state workers bitched up a storm. NO new limos, no new briefcases, get by with what you already have. I also remember the brand new governor's mansion that Ronnie and Nancy just had to have was turned over for tours, he never lived in it, he had an apartment he lived in. The minute he was replaced the new governor had to refurbish the mansion completely and move in. When he left california had a surplus, which was gone before the end of the first term of the republican governor who took over.

All in all, might just be good for california.

Wasn't he saying McCain was too old at 71?

"Wasn't he saying McCain was too old at 71?"

Did he say that? And if so, so what? He's running for governor, not president, dummy.

Brown was a lossy Governor. God help us. I can just see a dem Governor and a dem controlled legislature and senate. We would be so screwed.

Lousy

The reason he had the apartment was to keep company with Linda Ronstadt and smoke pot...

There was a big brouhaha when she showed up to some lunch while he was at a restaurant--with roller skates on!

I won't say it's a 100% to pass--but with the past percentage margin of medicinal pot passing--it has a good shot of passing now.

"The reason he had the apartment was to keep company with Linda Ronstadt and smoke pot..."

Sounds like one smart guy, Murphy. That's good enough reason to vote for him right there.

Is he still doing Linda Ronstadt?

midiblog.net

That's good enough reason to vote for him right there.

Don't think so...lol

Jerry is still a moonbat.

Poizner--another govt guy who can't make up his mind if he is an R or a D...

Whitman--not sure she is up to the job.

There is a conservative guy Larry Naritelli--kinda like him. Heard him on the Amato radio show.

www.larrynaritelli.vpweb.com

If Jerry wins they will have a complete proof set of liberal wackos running the State of California into the ground. It should be fun to watch, but we must stop them from stealing our Federal tax money. LET CALIFORNIA ROT!!!

California could do a lot worse than to re-hire Jerry Brown as governor.

Due to unfunded mandates the state is practically ungovernable but at least Jerry would make an honest effort to try and turn the state around.

Be Well.

Ahhh, yes...brings back memories, the last election in which I had California as my "home of record" before I retired from the military. Brown vs Flournoy 1974. Welcome back, Gov. Moonbeam. ( I didn't vote for you, but I DID vote for your dad once.)

Since the last time Pat Brown ran for governor was back in 1966 am I correct in assuming you aren't just a butternut reenactor but actually saw service under Bobby Lee? (Please give my best to Traveler.)
;>)

Why, because he is a dem? At least Whitman has worked in the real world unlike Brown.

Aren't there any more Hollywood actors for Republicans to support for Gov. of California???

I get a chuckle every time I read a post by a Republican who wants to be taken seriously in their views about who should or should not run for high office. Seems looks and on-screen courage and personality matter to them more than substance.

"Since the last time Pat Brown ran for governor was back in 1966 am I correct in assuming you aren't just a butternut reenactor but actually saw service under Bobby Lee? (Please give my best to Traveler.)"

Actually, I voted for Pat Brown in '62 vs Nixon AND again in '66 vs Reagan...GASP! I was struck blind by lightning on the road to Sacramento one day after that and "came to Jesus" in time to vote for Reagan's reelection.

Traveler...and Bobby Lee...are gone, (sob.) But, I do have pictures of Lee, Traveler, Jackson, and Little Sorrel too, on the mantel

"Aren't there any more Hollywood actors for Republicans to support for Gov. of California???"

Nawww...I think they're all democrats nowadays. Something in the water out there has destroyed brain cells in Hollywood. It was beginning to show at the time Arnold was elected.

"Something in the water out there has destroyed brain cells in Hollywood."

That's not a very nice way to talk about Ronald Reagan's illness.

"That's not a very nice way to talk about Ronald Reagan's illness."

He was never affected. The water became toxic after the days of Reagan, John Wayne, Glen Ford, Bob Hope, Charlton Heston and the other good guys. Just about all we have left out there now are Sean Penn, Danny Glover, Jane Fonda and their ilk. If you go visit Hollywood, do NOT drink the water....oh, I'm sorry. It's obvious you already have. Combined with your extreme use of pot, it is fatal. I hope the new death panels will be kind to you...LOL.

Actually Ronald Reagan was governor when I last tasted California water. It was great, I loved that place. I still want to go back. IMHO it was the greatest place in the US because it has everything, mountains, beaches, desserts, etc.

Until California finds Christ, the devil will reside there.

So it's time to dig up Reagan and move him to Taxes?

"It was great, I loved that place. I still want to go back. IMHO it was the greatest place in the US because it has everything, mountains, beaches, desserts, etc."

I did too. I lived there twice, during WWII and again in the middle 50's. I spent a lot of time as a teen in Santa Cruz, Muir Woods, Half Moon Bay, the Sierras etc. Beautiful! I went into the service in San Francisco and after training was sent overseas Pacific in '58. I didn't come back to CA until I was stationed at Moffett Field in the Bay Area in '69. I absolutely could not believe the way CA had changed.
I go back for visits fairly frequently and am always reinforced with the conviction that I could never live there again.

And the Carter Years return........

"I go back for visits fairly frequently and am always reinforced with the conviction that I could never live there again."

That is really such a shame, that used to be a really great state. I lived in Monterey as a young child and then in Orange Co. when I was in high school. I went back out there after I graduated but couldn't stay because of family problems back in Florida. Then my life got all tangled up here in Florida with kids and inlaws and kids getting married and grandkids, etc. I'll probably make it out there for a visit soon though, I hope I won't be too disappointed.

Meet the new governor of Cali. Whitman is way too smart to suit the lefties.

Jest how old are you man?? 70's or 80's?

"And the Carter Years return........"

Oh, you mean the pre-2.5 trillion dollar debt years?? Or do you mean the years when we had an energy policy?? Perhaps you mean the pre-outsourcing years?? Personally, I'd take an opportunity to go back and reelect CArter if there were such a thing as a time machine. WE'd be energy independent and probably debt free right now, probably wouldn't be in any wars either.

"I absolutely could not believe the way CA had changed. "

Yeah, Yosemite and the coast and Redwoods, etc., have really gone down hill. Cali can't even pay the crews to scrub down Half Dome yearly.

"Just about all we have left out there now are Sean Penn, Danny Glover, Jane Fonda and their ilk."

Exactly.

Just ask Adam Sandler, Lorne Michaels, Kelsey Grammer, Jessica Simpson, Shannen Doherty, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Heather Locklear, Robert Downey, Jr., Joan Allen, Steven Baldwin, Alice Cooper, Britney Spears, Danny Aiello, Jim Belushi, George Hamilton, Angie Harmon, Kid Rock, James Woods, Jerry Bruckheimer, Hulk Hogan, James Caviezel, Naomi Judd, Pat Sajak, Ben Stein, Tom Selleck, Gary Sinise, Delta Burke, Gerald MacRainey, Kirk Cameron, Dixie Carter, Bo Derek, Tom Beringer, Bruce Boxleitner, The Olsen Twins, Dean Cain, Bruce Willis, Pat Boone, Chuck Norris, Rick Schroeder, Dennis Miller, Wayne Newton, Ted Nugent, Drew Carey, Dick Clark, Mel Gibson, Tony Danza, Clint Eastwood, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Vince Vaughn, Robert Duvall, Patricia Heaton, and Bart Simpson (well, at least Bart's voice, Nancy Cartwright).

WE'd be energy independent and probably debt free right now, probably wouldn't be in any wars either.

you sound like my 7-year old. she asks questions like "wouldn't it be great if we had a maid, and everything was free and we could go to the moon for free and eat out for free etc....."

I guess I could just tell her that we almost got all that stuff....if we could have just reelected Jimmy Carter in 1980.

good fucking grief.

"I lived in Monterey..."

I have a nephew and his wife in Monterey. Still beautiful, but very, very expensive. The best aquarium I've ever seen. The only one that is better than the Ripley Aquarium in Gatlinburg, in my estimation.
My brother and his other children are all around Escondido, Poway and southern CA. I try to stay away from SoCal as much as I can. I visit an old navy buddy who has a beach house in Ventura but I only leave there to go to Santa Barbara occassionally when I visit. I was there last April and it was unusually cold. I will probably go out there this Fall to see my brother. I don't know what you might be expecting if you visit, but SoCal is like another country. Bring money and stay off the freeways if possible.

Don't forget the fresh sashimi from Ensendada and those veggie tacos at the stand in Riverside.

"I guess I could just tell her that we almost got all that stuff....if we could have just reelected Jimmy Carter in 1980."

We'll never know but what we do know is that when wew didn't elect him the President who was elected didn't put forth and energy independence policy, did run up 2.5 trillion in debt and did start America on its way down. I think I can say that had we just not elected Reagan we would be much better off today. It seems, deficits do matter after all and corporate greed isn't really good.

"Don't forget the fresh sashimi from Ensendada and those veggie tacos at the stand in Riverside."

Cali is a foodie's paradise. More ethnic food than anyone could possibly sample.

"Don't forget the fresh sashimi from Ensendada and those veggie tacos at the stand in Riverside."

My brother lived in Ensenada for fifteen years and just recently moved back across the border in order for his wife to be treated for lukemia. My wife and I spent three months there in '03/'04 when we were full time RVing. It was great. We left Ensenada and bought some land near San Felipe with a view of the mountains in back and the Sea of Cortez in front. We intended to build on it but sold it a couple of years later. We journeyed down Baja while we were there and I get nostalgic looking at all the pictures. Ended up here in the Smokies in order to be "closer to the grandchildren and great grandchildren" in VA...ha. I keep asking her, "How has that worked out for ya'?"
We do love it here though.

What's he running on? The "miss me yet" ticket?

I was raised on the Mexican border and spent lots of time in the country and well into it (Yucatan, Q. Roo). That was a while back and I'm not sure what it would be like now. The drug wars seem to have taken a heavy toll.

What in the hell did Jerry Brown do...

...hire John McCain's advisers?

Brown has about a 0% chance of getting elected.

"I was raised on the Mexican border and spent lots of time in the country and well into it (Yucatan, Q. Roo). That was a while back and I'm not sure what it would be like now. The drug wars seem to have taken a heavy toll."

Where on the border? I lived in El Paso and Ysleta for a couple of years. Moved from there to Albuquerque before moving back to CA in the 50's.

We have had two time shares in Cancun for a long time now and I have to say I haven't really noticed any big changes over the years. We don't go "downtown" a lot any more except to buy our liquor haul to take home. The resorts do advise people to stay away from the flea markets and all where they didn't used to do do that. I, personally, haven't seen any evidenc of increased crime there.
We've been to Merida, all the ruins, snorkeling and all that over the years so now we just stick around the resort, hit the poolbars, read and relax. However, if one wants to see the real Mexico, Cancun ain't it. Very clean, great food, service, weather etc., etc.

JEST -

Santa Cruz Valley in southern Arizona.

Never been to Cancun. I remember rocking in a hammock on Isla Mujeres back in the early 70s -- I believe that hammock in the coconut grove by the beach ran about $0.80 US a night (and worth every damn centavo, armpit ticks thrown in at no additional charge) -- hearing rumors about how there was going to be the big development at Cancun. People said, "Where?" Nobody'd really heard of the place. But Luis Echeveria was involved, so it had to have some traction. Got to Cozumel for scuba diving once. Great diving, drift diving, though the currents seemed a little ominous.

Like you, I'm more into comfort these days and less attracted to the "excitement" attending civil unrest, drug wars, and popular or unpopular insurrections.

Speaking of the drug war in South America, here's a funny story.

GUATEMALA CITY Authorities arrested Guatemala's anti-drug czar and national police chief Tuesday in a case involving stolen cocaine and slain police, acting just two days before U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrives to discuss the drug war.

Jerry was arguably California's best governor in MY lifetime, edging his papa but ahead of Earl Warren. He lost a few points by refusing to meet with marching farm workers, but regained a few by refusing to spray his constituency with anti-medfly poison. His work will be trying to undo damage left by ex-terminator and a Prop. 13 anti-tax measure spawned by Howard Jarvis and those Neanderthals. herm

Herm,

Wasn't your lib buddy, Gov Earl Warren of California the one who rounded up those Japanese American citizens and threw them into concentration camps with the approval of your other lib buddy, FDR?

Danni,
How about the 12+% mortgages? Get a clue about the past, sweetie. Are you blonde or something?

My lib buddy Earl was a Republican. I am a doctrinaire Democrat. I always voted against Warren. The Nisei internments are a grim chapter in U.S. history, but were not Warren's fault. Wow, you're old! herm

ANYBODY would have to be better than SchwarzennLoser!!!

Are you blonde or something?

#61 | Posted by daprof

Probably in the past.

"Are you blonde or something?"

Nothing wrong with bewing blonde!

Being not bewing! Geesh

Yea, She must be dumb, she has worked for and run private business all her life. On the other hand Moonbeam has been on the public payroll all his life. We certainly don't want people like her getting into government-Obama has managed to avoid appointing anyone with real life experience, the same as his own experience.
I can't believe some of the people here

"worked for and run private business all her life"

So what?
