Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

General Motors Co. said Tuesday that its February sales rose 11.5% from the same period a year ago, and its performance was even better after factoring out four brands it scuttled as part of the automaker's bankruptcy reorganization last year.

GM was the first of the automakers to release sales figures for the month, a time when the industry was roiled by new revelations about Toyota Motor Corp.'s safety defects, including a public apology by top executive Akio Toyoda, and severe winter weather in much of the nation that kept customers from visiting dealerships.

Recalls - GM

Imagine the Toyota executive answering questions to Congress who is the GM executive

How does a recall negate sales? You people spend so much time pissing all over America, it's sad.

How does a recall negate sales?

Depends on the recall.

How does a recall negate sales?

It doesn't negate past sales if that is what you mean.

A recall creates a loss. If the customer doesn't have to pay anything for the repairs done: all the parts and labor are unpaid expenses of the business.

That decreases your gains.

When haven't there been recalls???

I think the "news" was that it was Toyota and that they had tried to cover up the problem.

Analysts expected 24%. Ford's numbers were UP 43%.

February's admittedly the worst month though. Did you know that 25% of all vehicle sales in the United States are in the Washington-DC/Boston corridor? I learned that this morning. Gotta love Bloomberg.

and of course the govt wont remind you of the headline in houston chron today about a million plus recall of GM vehicles
AND how much the head og GMAC is getting in bonus..and gmac is in the red apparently.

WELL congress...where is the outrage and the bloviating.
well obama...where is your outrage like the others who got same or less?

will congress meet to grill GM like they did toyota

NOT LIKELY.....

Somewhat unrelated - the biggest problem I had with the recent congressional-hearings regarding Toyota's problems was a blatant conflict-of-interest.

By all accounts, Toyata has a genuine problem.

However, they seem to have taken considerable measures to deal with it in a responsible manner.

I remember a similar-scare with Audi back in the mid-80's - Audi recovered. Toyota is overall a stronger company than Audi. They will get through this. Their prior reputation is WAY too strong to not struggle through this blip unfazed. Their products and business models are exceptional - this reality will ultimately carry-the-day.

I have owned either a Chevy or Dodge all of my life. My next car will be a Ford, they did not take any money from obama and his union criminals.

.The recall will change this......... This problem has been linked to employees being derelict in their duties. Probably drunk or stoned or both. Glad those union employees are doing such a great job

Hyundai sales up 23%.

Good for GM though.

How's the Vibe doing?

Wis,

1.3 million recalled is bad, but if power steering goes out it doesn't seem as dangerous at least. I don't know much about power steering but if it went out I'd imagine you could still turn the wheel, just not as easily.

Every car company has issues, it was fucking pathetic to see a bunch of morons in Congress who certainly aren't engineers talk about what Toyota should be doing.

Agreed. I have a P.O.S. 1999 Chevy Silverado. I could have made 4 monthly payments back in the day with the recall postage.

Yeah its always fun to see Congressmen grill experts in their respective field. Everyone knows clueless old men who think they know everything about anything, and it is a pre-req to work in D.C.

I agree 100%

Much like Congress knows anything about healthcare.

If you look at two characters in Ayn Rand's 1957 novel "Atlas Shrugged." In the book, Rand describes two opposite kinds of businessmen those she calls the "producers" and those she calls the "looters."

Under the Obama administration the Boyles are on the rise, growing fat on bailouts, handouts, and other sundry opportunities for political profiteering. For every producer like BB&T bank's John Allison, who opposed Washington's bailouts and was forced to accept government money, there seem to be 10 like former General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner, demanding tax dollars to prop up their failing companies.

So this 11.5% profit for GM is tied to the tax payers propping them up, and tax subsidies.

GM is just a looter, not a producer.

and its still not enough to beat FORD and they have a recall of over a million...

and GMAC ceo getting millions in bonus....

looking forward to the congressional hearing and presidential threats about that.
but wont hold my breath.
