So there is nothing to watch at 11:30 pm then. David Letterman I won't watch because if others had behaved the way he did their careers would be over. Why David Letterman is protected and priviledged so much, I don't know. And Jay Leno is a complet pussy. I mean, he is doing what he thinks is good for him, so some people are going to say you can't blame fault him for that. Sure, but hoepefully the market will punish him for it.

You have to wonder if the $45M they spent getting rid of Conan will be made up for by putting Leno back on.

It's just been brought to my attention that, while they were Harvard undergraduates, Jeff Zucker '86 called the cops on Conan O'Brien '85. (I never saw previous reports about this.) According to articles in both the Harvard Crimson and Yale Daily News, handcuffsZucker, then president of the university's Harvard Crimson daily newspaper, dispatched the police to the Harvard Lampoon office after O'Brien, who was president of the campus humor magazine, organized a prank on his college rival -- stealing an entire print run of the Crimson before it could be distributed. "He only forgave me when I gave him The Tonight Show," Zucker told a Yale gathering back in 2005. The Harvard Crimson described the incident this way in a 2004 article about Conan landing The Tonight Show courtesy of Zucker: "O'Brien cut his teeth in comedy as president of The Harvard Lampoon, a semi-secret Sorrento Square social organization that used to occasionally publish a so-called humor magazine. In fact, O'Brien first met Zucker, his current boss, one day when O'Brien and the Lampoon editors stole all the copies of that morning's Crimson. Zucker, then Crimson President, called the police and met O'Brien face to face while he was being arrested." In 2001, Conan told The New Yorker this about the incident: "College pranks are supposed to be clever, but our rivalry with the Crimson had degenerated into us stealing something, Jeff calling the police, and the police making us haul it back," said O'Brien. (Other Lampoon pranks on Zucker included "a fake phone-sex ad with Zucker's dorm-room phone number. Zucker did not find any of this particularly hilarious.") JAY LENO, failed at 10 P.M.because the show was BAD!!!! Conan O'Brien failed because the Network put LENO as a lead in to the News an the audience flew the coop. Now any success the Tonight show has will depend on the lead in to the show. It has always been the case an it will always be so.

Jay Leno is an average comic at best and has no real ability to INTERVIEW ANYONE. Letterman has the ability to Interview everyone an has shown the ability to do so. That why Letterman is the better show!!!!!!!

The truly beautiful thing is how much job security Leno has now. He could pull a 1 share among 18-45s for the next year. What can they do about it? Pull Fallon up? Greenlight a new drama? (With what budget?) Let the affiliates run syndicated shows? Doesn't matter how badly he sucks, they put their eggs in that basket.

Which of course is why Leno kicked the living hell out of Letterman on a nightly basis.

The whole reason for this fiasco is that Leno was still number 1 when the time came for O'Brien to replace him. NBC didn't want to lose the best host in late night so they tried him at 10. That was stupid. They should have told O'Brien the deal was off and that if he felt so strongly about it he could go to another network.

NBC Execs were the idiots here... they had the number 1 show, they just should have stuck with it. Sometimes its worth holding onto your MVP at the expense of a minor league prospect that is still a risk.

Conan didn't fail. Jay Leno failed. Conan had great ratings considering he only had the show for 6 months. Not long enough to establish a crowd.

Jay Leno on the other hand already had the crowd and failed miserably. NBC was going to move jay leno to 11:30 and bump conan to midnight due to jay leno's poor ratings.

If Jay Leno didn't fail Conan O'Brien would still be at NBC. But because Jay Leno is a douch bag and sucks at prime time he refused to retire and instead requested Conan's spot back.

Use to watch Carson who was great until his last years when his age showed and he stopped being funny. Upstart Leno was hilarious, witty and fresh He totally deserved that famed desk. I kept watching Jay up to 1997 before my move to Europe. Does he suck now? I don't know, but it would surprise me.

I see NBC execs as the big losers here as they tampered with a good thing.

We signed up for Neilson ratings a while ago and I purposefully watched Letterman all the way through last night. Jay Leno is king douche, his schtick is too bubble-gummy/soft for my taste.

interesting...wasnt his main claim to fame as more of a combo drummer and maybe the larger group isnt his forte...I played with one guy who was a monster with a big band but had trouble in my quintet for instance...
