Faced with steep declines in tax revenue, an increasing number of states and localities are considering eliminating various tax exemptions for nonprofit groups. In most cases, churches would be exempt from the tax measures, but all other nonprofit groups, including private schools and colleges, would be affected.

Sweet.

Churches should never be given tax exempt status. Why should an organization that rips off people and spreads lies be exempt from paying taxes?

I don't understand why churches will be the exception.

I don't understand why churches will be the exception.

I think you understand why that is, you just don't like what you understand.

HC, I just want a politician to come forward and explain in his/her own words. Again, I don't understand why a state should give preference to a church providing charitable service over another non-religious group which is providing similar services.

LOL. You want them to say that it would be political suicide because he/she would be attacked as hating Jesus? And I'm delusional for wanting single payer?

I don't understand why churches will be the exception.

Becuase if you piss off the church you are committing political suicide.

Why don't they cut the damn spending?

So is this the state promoting religion over non-religion?

Seems like a logical question to me.

Murphy,

Okay, they should fire all the policemen and firemen in the part of town you live in. Also, they don't really need all those teachers at your kids' school. They really could get by with just a religeon and PE teacher. Fire the rest.

#11 yes Axe there is absolutely no government waste that could be cut.

Absolutely none. If you wish to lower waste you are logically wishing to get rid of teachers and firemen.

What horrible logic.

The federal government cannot account for $24.5 billion spent in 2003.

A White House review of just a sample of the federal budget identified $90 billion spent on programs deemed that were either ineffective, marginally adequate, or operating under a flawed purpose or design.

The Congressional Budget Office published a "Budget Options" book identifying $140 billion in potential spending cuts.

The federal government spends $23 billion annually on special interest pork projects such as grants to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or funds to combat teenage "goth" culture in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Washington spends tens of billions of dollars on failed and outdated programs such as the Rural Utilities Service, U.S. Geological Survey and Economic Development Association.

The federal government made $20 billion in overpayments in 2001.

But yeah, Axe, Murphy is a moron because any cut in government means firemen and teachers are the first to go. And instead of agreeing with me that these points are sad examples of government spending problems, you will attack the heritage.org as the source of the info.
