Alexis Del Cid A local business owner is flabbergasted after a shipment of 30 toy guns for his store was confiscated by ATF agents in Tacoma. Brad Martin and his son, Ben, sell the Airsoft BB guns from their store in Cornelius where they've been in business for seven years. The Martins said they buy their stock from Taiwan because the merchandise is less expensive. But the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized a shipment of 30 in October. That shipment is worth around $12,000 and the ATF is promising to destroy the entire shipment. Special Agent Kelvin Crenshaw said the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons.

Once again, the actions by the feds are meant to be draconian, in your face, often illegal. Remember the recent shut down of the Austin Gun Show in cahoots with local Austin police? We rule you! We can take your 'real' guns if we want to.

Special Agent Kelvin Crenshaw said the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons.

A fully automatic BB gun?

Fuck the ATF.

This is a total kick in the nuts to a small businessman by a governmental agency drunk on it's own power.

Again, Fuck the ATF.

See also: The DEA.

Be Well.

/"If I were to select a jack-booted group of fascists who are perhaps as large a danger to American society as I could pick today, I would pick BATF [the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms]."

//~Rep John Dingell

30 bb guns worth $12000? That's like $400 a gun-pretty pricey!

The ATF has attacked more innocent taxpaying citizens of this country than any other Federal Agency.

Extremely dangerous idiots. They will launch a full scale attack on any home based solely on the word of any flaky informant.

These things aren't even BB guns, they shoot plastic spheres a little larger than BBs. They are designed to look a lot like real guns, though. Maybe some ATF agent saw them and jumped to a wrong conclusion, and now they're trying to cover.
Oh, and SMEG, these usually sell for around $20 for the handgun sized models, and $30 to $40 for the rifle/machine-gun sized ones. Maybe they meant 30 cases? Or 30 models?

AirSoft?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

This is pathetic.

"The ATF has attacked more innocent taxpaying citizens of this country than any other Federal Agency."

If we really wanted to fight terrorism we could start by abolishing the ATF and DEA.

If we really wanted to fight terrorism we could start by abolishing the ATF and DEA.

the cia too

"You're going to put your eye out!!!" ~The ATF...

The ATF should have burned down his store.

ATF's History of "Torturing & Murdering" Children!!!

"The ATF should have burned down his store".....and Tortured & Murdered their children, like they did at the Branch Davidian in Waco Tx!!!

Well, I for one wouldn't want someone like 101chairborn, fwthom or stenwilly getting a hold of an automatic bb gun. Every pet in the county would be fair game to these morons.

Sweet Jesus, these sort of airsoft guns are made of stamped metal, they are a shell over an electric powered piston motor. IF you could convert it, the sucker would explode the first time a round went off.

Who is the dipshit in charge of this ATF operation.

Kelvin Crenshaw need to brush up on his armory skills.

We're from the government and we're hear to help you!

Can we create the DoSTHOoMB Department of stay the heck out of my business? It will be cheap we hire one 70 year old widower in the mountains who spends his evenings on the farm cleaning his guns. His department will have authority over all other "departments" of the government the ones that rule by beauracratic fiat. Before they are allowed to do anything they have to ask him for permision.

Anyone think to ask the "geniuses" at the BATFE to demonstrate how the 'conversion' might be accomplished? A tentative examination of one of these "dangerous weapons" will show that no parts can be inserted or replaced without destroying the plastic shell of the toy. It's a TOY. The agents who did this must have had their heads in a septic tank for days before.

If toy guns are outlawed, only juvenile delinquents will have guns.

Actually, only the low-end throwaways are in the $20-40 range. A good air soft rifle will cost a Minimum of $200 and can top out at several thousand dollars. The higher end guns are designed with high grade components and Theoretically, they could be misconstrued as a real weapon. Here's one example: www.airsplat.com . My son and I have a collection of low end Airsoft guns and I have him treat them as real weapons. For the most part, airsoft guns are fairly harmless, but our sniper rifle could easily puncture flesh and maybe knock a tooth loose. The Airsoft guns replaced paintball for us as it is cheaper, but we still equip with the same safety equipment. Sorry to go on a tangent, but it sounds like a number of commentators are unfamiliar with the equipment that is being discussed. That being said, a "conversion" to some higher form of weapon is ridiculous, though I have considered trying to load rock-salt to shoot at the local coyotes.

"Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms" should be a convenience store not a federal secret police force!

No problem, we are supposed to trust the government...*snork*

Seriously, I can get a fully automatic, battery powered squirt gun. I could paint it black and put salt water in it and destroy lawns and plants!

Looks like someone on the ATF had a hair up their ass about the store or something.

What a crock.

Oh wait...the obligatory "And Obama told us that he wasn't going to touch our guns."

{facepalm}

Why does a "toy" gun cost $400 ($12000 divided by 30) and is Del Cid a Muslim terrorist who needs a good waterboarding? The tough questions never get asked on PC DR.

What a pathetic, hyperpartisan attempt to pin something on Obama he has nothing to do with, the BATF has been rogue for decades, and was doing the exact same thing under Shrub and prior to that. Ruby Ridge, Waco, etc. Even the NRA admits the Obama Admin has done very little towards gun control, which has earned them the ire not of gun rights advocates, but the Brady people. Time to retract your {facepalm}.

Careful what you say. Lon Horiuchi may have you in his sights.

www.airsplat.com

This looks like the airsoft gun to be in question.

the toys can be easily retro-fitted into dangerous weapons.

What a crock of shit. I guess the next thing they willdo is grab up every piece of pipe because they can be made into bombs.

Another example of big government gone wild.

That being said, a "conversion" to some higher form of weapon is ridiculous, though I have considered trying to load rock-salt to shoot at the local coyotes.

This is exactly what I was talking about in post #12. The average idiot is not responsible enough to be entrusted with an air gun these days. They don't have the balls to use a real gun on the coyotes because it is illegal in most urban areas, but inflicting pain on wild animals is fine if the cops don't catch them and they are only playing with their "toy" guns.

rin, you are nuts. Running a wild animal out of your back yard should be your duty, not a right.

coyotes can be tastey if seasoned properly

Mar, I have shot a lot of them but never have eaten one. I did tell my hunting buddies that they make great jerky and they never took any of mine after that.

Ah yes, the ancient question: "To BB or not to BB..."

What if these coyotes are killing/eating one's pets/livestock???

I don't use airsoft guns, and I don't live in a rural area where coyotes are a problem, but if I did I'd run them of by any means necessary...

the BATF has been rogue for decades.... Ruby Ridge, Waco, etc.

You just gotta love a government agency that kills the childern to save them. Damn macho of them to shoot that woman that was holding the door with one hand and a small baby with the other.

They truly are ROUGE and seem to be much more active when a dem is in the WH.

"ROUGE"?

Is that the new "commie pinko"?

Or just makeup?

Running a wild animal out of your back yard should be your duty, not a right.

Too stupid to build a fence. Too stupid to understand how the balance of nature works. When killing wild animals becomes a duty you know we humans have gone too far.

I dunno - the DEA has an extensive record of incarcerating alleged "drug dealers" just to take their property. The ATF are no braintrust either.

Is any legitimate American safe from tyranny by our own government agencies, let alone pseudo ones like ATF and DEA who regularly, flagrantly disregard American citizens constitutional rights? Even the banks still denied many people an extension when their homes were being repossessed - after the banks achieved failout monies which were supposed to be helping the very citizens repeatedly denied. You can't ever trust any group who regulate wealth accumulation. It's obvious this toy store is too profitable - time to decimate another local business!

They truly are ROUGE and seem to be much more active when a dem is in the WH.

I guess getting 5000 American soldiers killed and tens of thousands maimed for life in illegal wars in the middle east during Bush's watch was okay by sniper's logic.

We won't even mention the half a million Iraqi civilians who died too. Yea, sniper?

What if these coyotes are killing/eating one's pets/livestock???

They don't know that. Maybe they think mankind put them there to eat.

I lived around coyotes for years. Their not evil, just hungry. I would rather have them as neighbors then some yapping fuckin' Chihuahua or hybrid poodle.

Hell no, I won't retract it. Obama could make a call and clear it all up.

Not to mention your use of the "Shrub" defamation of President Bush. Or do you approve of calling President Obama "PresBO -- aka Stinky?"

Are you Mr Kettle or Mr Pot?

The ATF should simply burn down the guy's house with his family inside, Waco style.

I have to agree with you, and maybe I was unclear: my point was that if I had that problem, I would run them off. And, using an airsoft rifle to do so would be preferential to a 22 or 12 gauge...

I like all wildlife, and am not presently a hunter. I have hunted and I would hunt, should necessity warrant. Also, I don't have anything against hunting, as long as the animal doesn't go to waste. It really is an unfortunate necessity (as you pointed out); given man's encrouchment on the natural habitat of the game animal...

Not sure where your from but for us it's only illegal to discharge a firearm in town. Outside of town coyotes are fair game. All I have to do is get out my rifle, put a bullet in its head and sleep better knowing my pets and children are safe.

if anyone comes around asking questions who needs the lie about anything?

and if you want to be humane rock salt is a good way to go, regardless of the pain the coyote may suffer at least it's still alive.

ya know I betcha the first time a coyote kills your cat/dog/ or child you wouldn't be so bleeding heart about them. it's a predator, plain and simple.

#42 | Posted by jxnman81 at 2010-03-01 09:17 AM

I agree with you about the coyote's threat to pets/farm animals, but since there has only been one recorded coyote related human death recorded in the united states, the threat to humans, even children, is fairly small. Your child is much more likely to be attacked by someone's pet...
